  • this nigga just has weak legs.

    probably a strong core.

but just by looking at his legs you can tell they are weak.

DEAL WITH IT you bj defenderfags.

  • Penn wasnt really a weight lifter or body builder type, he was more relax, then tap u out

  • ok there are different types of strength. i personally think the guy that can bench 135 but do 200 pushups straight is stronger than the guy that can bench 500 but do 20 pushups. bj is deffinitely one of the strongest fighters in the ufc.

  • press 6 hahaha

  • pressing 4 is the funniest to me....

  • rofl 1 plate everything, what a weak cunt

  • @KiwiDillan It's called conditioning, get your egotistical ass out of here.

  • @KiwiDillan lmao people like you are so dumb.. you see someone lifting light weights and you assume hes weak. you have no idea what hes doing their so just stfu troll

  • Press 7. (^_^)

  • hes only lifting for fighting... he doesnt need to lift heavy just be strong enough to pick up someone his weight... many times

  • really? squats with only 45lbs / 20kg per side?

dude, i can do those all day long and still not be tired. try doubling that, then you might actually have a bit of a workout.

  • @wubs23 and this version of penn would kick your ass all day.

  • @TheLittleGreenMan102 i dont know, im quite a bit heavier and taller then he is, you know? i mean, ofcourse he is really tough and if we were the same size he'd totally facerape me, and he is one of the most talented fighters i know... but i just thought he should be able to squat more than that.. 1xbodyweight at least, i'd say..

  • @wubs23 BJ Penn is not a heavyweight. He is restricted to a certain amount of muscle mass to stay in weight. Therefore its better to tone than build in this circumstance.

  • @tasneefm 1 word. GSP.

  • @wubs23 That's got nothing to do with it. Obviously GSP won and proved to be better in that fight. It doesn't make any difference to the muscle mass management to stay in the weight class.

  • @tasneefm yes it does. he was in the same weight class but squats much heavier. ergo, your previous comment didnt make sense.

  • @wubs23 Yeah but maybe he has a lower protein intake or maybe their bodies react different to protein. People's bodies are different. I don't take anything away from a world class fighter like BJ. He knows what he's doing.

  • @wubs23 LOL that was my exact reaction too not to mention only deadlifting 135 and leg pressing 2 plates! i thought BJ would be ALOT stronger

  • @wubs23 hahahahahahahaha fail at you thinking youd stand a chance against any bj penn thats funny

  • @ojshields1991 dude.. he is what..165lbs? im 220. it doesnt mean he isnt good, it also doesnt mean he wouldnt beat me in a grappling match or anything like that. same thing, i wont beat a guy thats 2m tall and weighs 260 lbs.

  • If he's preparing for a fight he's most likely not lifting for any strength or size gains, just trying to keep the muscle mass and strength he has. Also most likely he wants to fatigue his muscles to simulate the fight which is why he's doing low weight high rep.

  • he squats like a 90 lbs guy, but in the cage.......:(

  • keep pressing 5 or 7

  • lol keep pressiing 7.

  • I'm sure that he will lift at least twice more, but he must be fast, so he mustn't build massive muscles.

  • keep pressing 5... that wat gsp did to pen

  • @wangpeng1994 7 is more realistic

  • @wangpeng1994 na rick story

  • @wangpeng1994 lol

  • We don't know the amount of sets he did, for all we know he could have been circuit training, also this might not even be all of his workout. People saying he has weak legs. I would love to see you jump out of a pool. Bj is a professional athlete I think he knows what hes doing when it comes to training, people just need to stop drinking hatorade.

  • damn his legs weak i squat 315 and his only doing 135 but he'll still kick my ass

  • @linkinpark2545 shut the hell up with dat shit!

  • Thats why hes not winning, he barely works out with weights, I mean he doesn't have to squat 2.5 times his body weight but 135? Thats no where near where it should be

  • yay full squats! 135 lb though ... weak

  • @pumitaproductions Depends on his numbers of reps and how many leg exercises he does though

  • @XxSSjUltimatexX I'm pretty sure I can rep 135 forever... and I'm really not even that big. at all. Like my bench is 135x7 right now... My squat is at 225x5

  • How much squat weight does he lift?

  • @noberugen 135

  • @J4AProductions

    thanks^^

  • @noberugen npp bud really light weight if u ask me

  • Sadly i work out harder than this.

  • my dude has roid face

  • I hate his attitude (and his gross little ears) but there's no denying what a proficient fighter he is. He has definately solidified his name in the annals of MMA.

Don't know why he's doing so many isolation exercises though. As an athlete you tend to use your whole body as a unit, logically you'd want to train your body as a unit. Oh well.

  • I'm not impressed by his performance

  • @CloudFROST Have you tried deadlifts, hyperextensions, squats, leg presses and hamstring curls in 1 session before? Obviously not

  • A great man, loved by SurferKen

he's going to beat Jon of a Fitch

    because he aint no bitch

he'll choke or knock him out

Get the belt and be so proud

After that, he'll go back to Hawaii

And get me that shirt for which I'm willing to die

Leaving Ken behind, ready to cry!

    BJ Penn

  • too bad he trains this much just to get fucked up by GSP every time...

  • Thats one strong Ninja Turtle!

  • this was on my bday haha

  • dont fuck with Bj penn this dude can jump out of a pool that shit is so hard to do!! im about his size and i cant even get close i have to use my arms to boost me up more so i can plant my feet lol

  • Have you seen Mike Tyson?

  • i dont know why but i think that bj is a bit lazy

  • @DimisWargame lmao he's Hawaiian

  • @DimisWargame hes still an awsome fighter thow

  • @jackTKbrightside of course he is a great fighter

  • @DimisWargame Hawaiian fighters don't have to train! just jump in, kick ass, jump out!

  • @DimisWargame maybe because he looks fat

  • @DimisWargame everyones a critic

  • @pimpmstr89 yeah

  • @DimisWargame Well known fact.

  • @DimisWargame It's impossible for someone to win the world jiu-jitsu championship. Win the UFC welterweight title and defend the UFC lightweight title on multiple occasions and be lazy. Pull your head out of your ass.

  • @DimisWargame why is that? he was the world champion at one time, you can't be lazy and be the world champion at the same time, to much work.

  • @DimisWargame wait thats a joke right

  • damn his face is so fat

  • Bj should increase his strength he lacked explosiveness in his last fight

  • i don't get your videos..when i go to my gym,i see everybody working with least twice more weight then you do,what do you want to proof? i don't get it

  • @Rulzever

That's because BJ is doing more endurance work that muscle work. I'm sure BJ can squat and deadlift some heavy weight if he wanted to.

  • lol @ being weak!!! bj may not be an avid weightroom warrior, but he is far from weak. try rolling with him and then you'll realize how much functional strength he has. mma/jiu jitsu athletes dont gear their training for looking good on the beach!!!!!

  • Look at that lazy, heartless slob attempt to work out hard. He has no point of reference. He is like a child who wanders in to a workout halfway through asking what is going on..

  • He doesn't need to train for GSP. He just has to fight to the death......oh wait.

  • St Pierre's natrual weight is welter, where as BJ's most natural at lightweight, he had the balls to step up. Both are my fav fighters. They don't give a shit about lifting 'light', explosive power is king.

  • It's funny how some people try to tell what a MMA champion should do

  • @HollowAgito lol the only smart comment on here....just what i was thinking......its almost if everyone has fucking forgot he is going to go down in history as one of the best fighters to have lived!!! he will be in the hall of fame soon

  • hes a loser

  • lmao ok there buddy.. ur a true coward.. its not a fight when u just use a gun.. id kick ur ass myself.. stop talking ur making urself look even worse if thats possible lmao

  • @achillesninja When he said "I'll be happy to pump some lead into him" he didn't mean shooting him with a gun. I think he meant it from a more "Romantic" sense if you know what I mean.

  • the best! MY FAV FIGHTER!

  • heavyweights are for body builders who cant fight... fighters like anderson silva, BJ, machida or even fedor dont do heavy weight lifting ... weights are for gays to show off their bodies on stage wid a thong

  • @billyjean311275 Do you seriously think someone like Carwin or Lesnar can't/don't lift heavy ass weight? You sir, are a retard.

  • 60 kg squat? ROFL.

  • @TemplarX2 endurance training plus he's only going for 170 lbs, so he doesn't need to buff up so much.

  • @TemplarX2 hes still demoilish you in any fight so i wouldnt be laughing to hard there buddy

  • @achillesninja I don't train for MMA fights you, cockhole And yes were I too train for MMA, I'll mop the floor with him as I'm much bigger than him. If BJPenn wants a fight I'll be more than happy to pump some lead into him. there's one thing to fight in a cage and another to fight in the real world.

  • @TemplarX2 .....your a fuckin dumbass

  • @TemplarX2 lol what are you bragging about?

  • @TemplarX2 you an idiot, pump some led in him???

  • @TemplarX2 LMAO...did u just sayyy......... nevermind...WOW ...haha..im sure bj knows a thing or 2 about the real world..lol..u know where his gym is at...hes waiting for you..."HOMEY"...

  • @TemplarX2 Hahaha.

How's being an internet tough guy going for you?

  • @TemplarX2 Dude Seriously if BJ penn were to ask you to fight you'd probably come up with some lame ass excuse and avoid him so shut up you fake ass bitch.

  • @USMC22093 You stupid, cockhoe, I never said I wanted to fight Penn in a cage. I said if Penn wanted to fight me in real life I'll pump a slug into a him and possibly sick him with my dobermans. All I said, had I trained MMA I'd probably rape his ass considering I'm considerably bigger than him. I'm a Judo brown belt as well so he is not gonna walk all over despite all his training. But no doubt he'll kick my ass in a fist fight in my untrained state.

  • @TemplarX2 Judo didn't help frank mir against Shane Carwin.

  • @TemplarX2 LMFAO!! BJ penn is one of the greatest fighters in the world and is talented as hell..in a hand to hand fight anywhere he would beat you and 99.99999% of the population easily. You ain't even a pro fighter and you think one of the best pros can't beat your ass..btw size only matters when 2 people are around the same level-hence GSP and Penn...Oh yeah and Penn took Machida to a decision and please don't compare yourself to Machida.

  • anybody know at what time bjpenn start his training??

    6:15 why so early

he must live like a monk before a fight

  • looks like bj dumped crossfit like a ton of bricks...

  • what cypress hill song is this

  • feather weight-lifting

  • it is best to alternate between heavy and endurance lifting...not only will it make you a lot stronger due to muscle confusion but u will also get the best of both worlds...strength and endurance training..

  • @magoo77stickinit muscle confusion makes you progress slower not faster.Best to seperate max strength and strength endurance into different phases of training

  • @billysue2 you are wrong

  • body builders work out for cosmetic reasons which is what big weight is for, fighters use it for indurance which is why they use small weight, but seriously, no matter what he was squatting, chances are he did WAY more training before he got to the squats, fighters excercise like sav's when it comes to workin out

  • @StruddleToaster very heavy weight typically builds strength not size.Fighters need both strength and endurance not either.

  • @billysue2

Heavy weight doesn't build size. Are you on crack or what? You can big at only 4 rep with heavy weight. it is just the hypertrophy is different for different number of rep. So shut up, because i only got big while lifting heavy.

  • @TemplarX2 firstly, you can barely speak english.Secondly, very heavy weight means the reps will be very low which means only a subpopulation of motor units are trained and so growth is limited to those fibres. For the vast majority of people growth occurs more with higher reps ,shorter rests and lots of sets, just like a bodybuilder. Some respond to lower reps like yourself but still need lots of sets to make up the volume.

  • endurance training with weights, your reps will drop alot each set

  • i dont care what anyone says high wieght low reps followed by an explosive exersize for the same muscle group is the way to go. for example i do 3 reps of bench press then do 10 clap push ups directly afterward and do that for 3 sets

  • You should care what everyone says, because those who know what they're talking about state the exact same thing you just said; heavy weight + low reps followed by an explosive exercise.

  • mma fighters do not lift weights like bodybuilders do it 2 totally oposite things. I prefer working out like a fighter cause you can have strenght plus speed and have power and be able to use it

  • lol guys listen you have no idea what he was doing before that squat set.. he could have just got done doing 100 jump squats or maybe windsprints or kettlebell swings. mma workouts are much different than a traditional weightlifting workout. it doesnt matter hes a stud!

  • @BigGeorgia1 whats wrong with the weight hes lifting? it seems just about right for his frame...

  • @BigGeorgia1 I would never squat 135 or deadlift 135lbs man... and i'm only 165lbs too.

  • @ChrisUlrich You probably wouldn't because you probably can't. enough said

  • @BigGeorgia1 No. it was 6:15 and i am almost sure of it that he wouldn't have woken up at like 4:45 or 5:00 to do other things. And as you can see hes not sweating that hard when he was doing this workout. Face it. BJ is weak. But he is one hell of a fighter. He has all the technique in the world and is very smart. Other than his past fight with Frankie where he looked horrible. You don't have to be ripped and strong to be a great fighter. BJ proves that.

  • @BigGeorgia1 yeah dont mind the idiots on youtube, 90% of registered users are the imbeciles that only know how to state ignorant things , while the other 5% are bots. That puts us in the 5% category of non-ignorant assholes. Yeyyyyy!!!!!

  • @BigGeorgia1 nice comment finally somebody with common sense

  • My max squat is about 130 kilograms I wiegh about 80kgs when I train for fights my weights for squats drops to about 80, for explosive/power training lifting heavy weight for a fighter is bad it will promote strong slow twitch muscle. the last guy I fought could deadlift way way waaaay more than me yet I still beat him becasue I was much more explosive and fit.

  • it doesn't really matter if 135 is heavy for him, even if he is only doing a few reps, because he can probly kick you ass :)

  • hes definitely tired, those are probably his finishing reps

  • Surely hes not actually that weak? Struggling to squat 135? Im not hating on him, Im a fan but damn.

  • no hes not strugling he did a huge amount of reps like 20 reps or hes just tired

  • That isnt a huge amount of reps with 135 lol

  • @nlm1306 he was probably working differently like lots of reps low weight

  • you dont know how much he did before that, he couldve done boxing for 2 hours

  • this is probably after an intense workout b4 the squats, see how he was already sweating. this dude is a world class athlete dont be stupid

  • Keep in mind he didn't do just one set.. U obv. are not a fighter... We dont work out lke body buidlers, we work out in circuts... WE use light weight, but we do reps upon reps, some of the pro guys wherei train do about 1000 crunches a day. FIghters don't need to be crazy buff or strong, we need a balance of speed, agility, strength and technique. Doing this is te best way to develope that.

  • He should have trained harder.

  • hes still stronger than u and hes lifting those weights

  • BJ is one of the most talented fighters by far... but GSP is so athletically gifted that BJ's fighting ability wont help him against GSP

  • Simply cuz GSP out wrestled him.

  • not just that, the usable strength difference is insane. GSP is much stronger than him.. BJ belongs in155. He is owning in that division.

  • YOU ARE THE MAN BJ PENN

  • lol@ keyboard warriors. less than a quarter of you who bash ppl on here actually lift maybe 10lbs.

  • i can curl 40lb's

  • what a bitch haha. Those are some girly weights. YES YES i know its bj penn and hes a freak fighter and hell kick my ass. Just thought he would be a little stronger.

  • Come on man. Add more weight, gain more weight. He has a weight to make.

  • he's a fighter not a weight lifter. if you lift weights you must know you use heavy weights less reps for muscle/strength and use lighter weights for conditioning/stamina. Being able to lift heavy weights and being slow doesnt help you win fights

  • its not about heavy weights when they train..they train for muscle endurance.. and such

  • You dont want to lift too much weight when you train for fights. It makes your muscles bulky and it makes you slower. They prolly dont wanna reveal too much either.

  • @onetao8

hes a fighter he SHOULDNT do heavy weights.

only long sets and explosive sets.

    dumbass

  • @rantanen1 when wrestling is involved great strength is very helpful. Also to have good power endurance which is what youre referring to,you first need strength training ,then power training, and lastly longer explosive work.Youve a lot to learn

  • @billysue2

Yes obviously weight training is good but it seems some people think he should do sets of 3 or some shit, and its simply not true. if u get what i mean?

  • @rantanen1 i think that most fighters can benefit from heavy strength training, but it is obvious that they cannot rely solely on that, they must do a lot of explosive training and a lot of endurance, besides their technical training

  • @rantanen1 GSP Lifts Heavy, followed by a burnout exercise. You can't say lifting heavy doesn't work....Fedor used to power lift. I think most people who have success in mma have lifted heavy at some point.

  • @philipmcauley

    No.

    Just no.

  • @philipmcauley No he doesn't.

  • @philipmcauley correct. 100% correct. I can already do 100lb dumbbell press for 12 reps and do 100lbs for 3 reps on the pullups. I feel strong and am only 168lbs.

  • @rantanen1 Thats not true. When you get really close to competition time you need to be moving as much weight as possible. You do need to condition too but as far as lifting goes it needs to be heavy and short.

  • @james81885 wrong! you start lifting heavy and than you proceede to lifting lighter and lighter and more explosive come fight time. Lifting heavy weight has a higher injury rate. You are 100% wrong. You dont lift heavy weight 1 or 2 weeks before your fight. You lift more reps for muscle cardio and more explosive. Then after your fight you build the strength by lifting heavy. You people are not smart.

  • @bright5086200 Yes I agree that a week or two before a fight you should recover but leading up to that should be heavy. It is true that lifting heavy has a higher injury rate but done with correct form that can be controlled and just because you build muscle that doesn't mean that you're going to be in worse shape. You do have more of an oxygen demand with more muscle but you also build more of a capacity in which to use the oxygen thats coming in. I"m not saying that one way is better.

  • @james81885 I think its way better to be lean and cut then ripped and shredded in the lower divisions. Your 100% correct about the oxygen, more muscle = higher demand right? Well when you (use) to hold the belt, BJ penn would fight 5 round fights, and he would dominate them mostly except for GSP and edgar Edgar used his incredible speed and head feints + movement wth his awesome wrestling while GSP used tactics and wrestling. BJ does not need to become stronger as he is already strong and feared

  • @the3bigreddevils Exactly with increased muscle you also have an increased mitochondria which is the mechanism for using oxygen. I think BJ beat Edgar in the first fight but GSP is a freakin beast. He is very strong but really in any sport there is no such thing as too strong. I usually teach athletes how to snatch and overhead squat I believe in every sport these movements are the best. I also use odd objects like sand bags and slosh pipes for unevenly distributed weight.

  • @rantanen1 actually fighters should throw in all types of movements including heavy weight for a few reps to get strong and explosive for takedowns and what not

  • @rantanen1 No. Heavy weights have their place in MMA. Lifting heavy weights has made Lesnar and Carwin and Mir and GSP where they are today. GSP lifts dumbbells chest press 100x3. and pullups with 90 pounds x3. I can do 100 pounds chest press 12 times. I can lift 100 pounds for a set of 3 on pullups. I only weigh 168. I have felt the difference. I can mall opponents and laugh while doing it. But the downfall to building that heavy thick muscle mass is decreased cardio :(

    So its good and bad.

  • @rantanen1 i think he knows better then some idiot like you.

  • @rantanen1 sorry dude, fighters need strength, therefore, they need to lift heavy weights, you can't shoot on a guy and slam him to the turf when you're weak, everything will have it's place in training mma athletes, they have to be the best all around

  • @oxmac52

Heavy Weights are actually the worst training ever. All the greatest boxers never even used them, other exercises are much more efficient, not to mention the injury rate for lifters...

  • @rantanen1 if 135lbs. on the squat and about 200lbs. on the leg press is heavy weight for BJ, he SHOULDN"T be fighting.

  • @axev2 Heavy weights does not equal a better fighter, if you think that then you clearly don't understand how to train your body.

  • @YorkshireGripper that's not even kinda what i said. read it again.

there's no excuse for being weak. BJ nuthuggery (and generally not knowing what the f*ck you're talking about) may make someone think its better to be weak than strong as a fighter, but why don't some of you click on those GSP vids and see how a guy in the top 3 P4P trains. spoiler alert: he's not maxing out at 200lbs on the squat.

  • @axev2 Funny, you've made a few snap judgements based on a 2 and a half line comment. You have no Idea how many fights I or anyone else on here has had or how long I've been training. You obviously think your opinion is worth more than everyone else on here. Keep your delusions, I don't want them.

  • @YorkshireGripper If you took any of what I said personally or as a judgment of you, that's your issue, but I'd say that's true of you if you take offense to something not intending to offend you.

Anyway, honestly, you could be BJ Penn behind this keyboard, or have more experience than Travis Fulton, you either don't know what you're talking about or are ill-informed if you think being WEAK is somehow superior to being STRONG. Its that simple, if that hurts your feelings, toughen up.

  • @rantanen1 and i suppose you would woup bj penn's ass? gtfo of here scrub.

  • @rantanen1

Why did Brock Lesnar and Kimbo Slice break out so big in MMA? Their technique wasn't the best but they both are just so goddamn strong that they did well (yes I realize neither of them are the champ). Fighters benefit from being strong - that's a fact. It's also a fact that the fastest way to get strong is to lift heavy. BUT all sorts of pro athletes get roped into shitty training and still win. Reggie Bush does ''Tredmill Fu." Penn gets away with squatting light because hes gifted

  • @ptarleton You know Kimbo Slice only fought like 3 times in the UFC right? He's already out.

  • @onetao8 too bad, even if you do "manly weights" he still beats your ass

  • Didn't train hard enough..

  • Cypress hill

  • alot of pointless exercises in there imo

  • good thing he has a spotter squatting 175 lolz

  • how do you know its his first set?

  • You're right, he's probably going heavy there

  • Jake Shields the only top welterweight not in the UFC. He will fight Dan Henderson and then I think he will come where he can fight at his natural weight.

He could fight un-ranked WW's or he can fight Lawler, Hendo etc OR come on over!!!
