  • Leslie West & the Mountian is my #1 group. I've heard them in 1972 first time, since then is my #1 band!

  • leslie has delicate hands, never noticed that.

  • This is all about passion and fire.

You can shred and play as fast as you want but without the passion and fire it's just noise!!

  • You are so right, I guess Leslie is like fine wine. I have followed them for over 40 years each time I see them is the best.

  • Great Guitar Music Is about the "TONE" not the guitar technics or playing fast, that is "NOISE" Listening to Leslie West, Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore, Jimmy Page; they're all different but the same type "AWESOME TONE" They are the best ever!!!

  • OMG I fucking been looking for the HIGH QUALITY VERSION long time ago....found this on accident thank you man....thank you....

  • Night of the Guitars...:-)

  • Woooooow - is that possible? Yes - its is possible - TY Leslie (you are awesome and "An Imaginary Western" too).

  • I've been playing guitar for over 40 years, & everytime I here this rendition, I get goosebumps all over, one of the kings of old school! God bless you Leslie

  • holy shit.

  • And, if you want to hear all that stuff just go to any Guitar Center near you. It's funny, when you go into a GC and someone is playing something like this people pay attention. All the other stuff just becomes backround sound like the cash registers!

  • Just a few of Leslie's notes surpass 99,999 notes of all the 100,000 guitar marvels out there. Leslie was and is more atune to becoming one with his guitar rather than spending countless hours perfecting mixolodians and diatonic's and tap dancing on the neck. That stuff gets old real fast!

  • Hey Leslie, that simple 4-note lick in M. Queen changed my life forever. Thank you man.

  • Out of this proverbial world. Leslie is still absurdly underrated.

  • Beautiful!

  • Wow that's the best guitar solo i've heard for quite a while. What a feeling! Leslie West sure is the man. He is definitely a very underrated player

  • What a monster tone! LW is master...

  • Leslie West, Michael Schenker, Uli Jon Roth Announce 3 Guitar Heroes Tour

They will all jam together at the end of their sets!

    LESLIE WEST IS BACK!!!!

  • @depper From death's doorstep to a tour announcement in mere months. I'm not even sure we should be surprised. West is best. :)

  • in my opinion pappalardi sang the best version of theme.... in the end its amazing what leslie did here . hard feel..with the coldness of the 80ties.compaired to the great days in the late sixties.its hard as stone how he hits the last notes !

  • @KingCrimson82 How about Jack Bruce Love King Crimson also. very unique. You have great taste in

    music!!!!!!!!!!!

  • awesome

  • If anyone isn't sure where Leslie West of Mountain fits into the lists of greatest rock guitarist ever, point them directly to this peformance from 1988 ,of Theme from an Imaginary western. The End.....

  • Leslie West, The Mountain.

  • Lets all pray for the great Leslie West. Leslie underwent emergency surgery after being admitted to a hospital in Biloxi, Mississippi, on Saturday when his leg started to swell and his foot went septic. The doctors tried for two days to save it to no avail. The decision to amputate was one that was necessary to save his life. Leslie is expected to recover but faces extensive rehabilitation. We are all prayin' for ya Leslie!

  • @depper Hey friend thanks for the news about Leslie, I was tearing up reading about his leg up to knee amputation. I have so many fond memories of Leslie, I hope we have him around for many years to come, what a legend! Be nice to see him in a prosthetic limb on stage belting out Never In My Life and Theme For An Imaginary Western. Thanks again for the info, prayin' here too... :)

  • @depper It's a sad news, how is he now?

  • Felix would've liked Leslie's tribute. Have to say thanks to Jack Bruce for writing a fantastic song that never get's old.

  • A great tribute To Felix Pappalardi. Leslie West, you'll always be the Peak Of The Mountain.

  • Today the bells toll for Felix Pappalardi. 28 Years ago, Felix Pappalardi died. The bass player for Mountain, the producer of some Cream albums, and also played on some Cream tracks. RIP Felix Pappalardi. Missed by many.

  • @gsgbass465 Friends, let's remember Felix Pappalardi today. I would go as far as to call Felix Pappalardi one of the greatest voices in rock history. Tonality, vocal range were exquisite. First class in every way.

  • @gsgbass465 His production of Disraeli Gears and Wheels of Fire for Cream, when they were at their creative peak, must stand as a gigantic accomplishment in Rock History. Producers come and go, but he was able to capture the essence of the group, live and in the studio. Still "White Room" and "Crossroads" make chills run up my spine. Seminal performances caught on tape by Felix and his team. RIP Felix.

  • @gsgbass465 RIP Felix, was one of my favorite singers from that era

  • Leslie West, Outstanding! What better way to do justice to a Jack Bruce masterpiece, and tribute Leslie's partner, Felix Pappalardi that made it famous. RIP Felix. Jack, you couldn't have wrote it any better. Timeless in Rock history.

  • Now THAT is some kick-ass guitar.

  • Always a masterpiece! Jack Bruce a genius. Great live mix on this...his tone is phenomenal. Holt does good job on vocals but Felix Pappalardi sang it better and Corky Laings drum treatment was cooler on the Mountain version back in 1970. A great example of Less is More. So much is said with so few notes...space allows expression. That's why people like West, Gilmour, Page, Clapton, and Beck were so friggin awesome.

  • 1961 We had Mantle vs Maris, 1969 we went to the moon, 1970s we had Ali vs Frasier, in the 1989 we have this tone monster gem. We have memories of the finest moments in entertainment in every decade, and this performance of TFAIW is one of the all time greats. One for the 80's and one for the ages.

  • So much better when Leslie didn't have a whammy-bar. Still, an amazingly-emotional guitarist. And seeing this with Derek Holt was fantastic. If you never saw Climax Blues Band back in "the day", I'm sorry. You missed one of the most fantastic bands the world has ever known! Saw 'em open for Wishbone Ash in Cincy and they blew the WA boys right off the stage! Saw Colin after the show briefly and tried to invite them back to Oxford, OH. Too far for the limo driver to travel. Oh well...

  • Reminds me of Minas Morgul!

  • Truly inspired dedication.

  • After seeing Mountain 41 years ago, this is still my favorite song of any. This version that Leslie did as a tribute to Felix P. is in my head, and won't go away. There's no finer way to play this Jack Bruce masterpiece for the man and the voice that really made the song famous. The night I saw Mountain they were right on note for note. I stood there in awe in the front row. Thanks for this one Leslie. RIP Felix Pappalardi, you left us to soon. Mountain forever!

  • @gsgbass This tribute to Felix Pappalardi just says it all! Thanks again Leslie West. RIP Felix P.

  • Thank god the bass player sang the vocals. Last time I saw Mountain Leslie west sang - he may have great guitar tone - but he absolutely eviscerated the singing, he's got a voice like a worn out cement mixer...

  • One of most cool songs of seventhies years ! Only Jack Bruce version i don't like me ! Good years from province Rome's !!

  • Still one of the best guitar solo's i ever heard, great tone, great feeling. This solo came right out of his heart.

  • What Can Be Said ? Brings A Tear To My Eyes,And A Smile To My Face...

  • @TheBluntInstrument

    YOU BETCHA'!

  • FAB,but give me the original brilliant solo he did.he got it right then, with a les paul jr.,and sun amp

  • Amazing performance!!!

  • awesome lead guitar killer tone and haunting lyrics ( bass man singing )

  • Still gives me chills. Goose bumps.

  • So emotive, great performance.

  • Absolutely fricking HOT DAMN GUITAR!! That should be his signature guitar.

  • i had this on cassette when i was about 8 "night of the guitars" and spent years learning this. i'm 30 now and this has just made my absolute year> thanks for posting it. amazing amazing tone. i dont think i've heard tone and emotion through a guitar like this ever.

  • amazing wish i was there @ the time ;)

  • This is as close to God as you can get while still on this Earth.

  • Hauntingly beautiful. West says more with fewer notes than anybody except maybe David Gilmour.

  • @kw21925 Gilmour is great also, but came 20+ years after Leslie was amazing crowds. The man known as an entire band, Mountain, was first. :)

  • @depper ??? You must have Gilmour confused with someone else. David Gilmour was the guitarist in Pink Floyd before anybody heard of Leslie West.

  • First Mountain album was in 1970 ;D

  • @depper Absolutely amazing. This song always brings back terrific memories, some sad. He never got over the death of Felix Pappalardi. I saw Leslie West play live with Mountain, West, Bruce and Lang and with the Leslie West Band all going back to the very early 70's. He was amazing back then and still is now. Always an unbelievable sound. He makes his guitar talk to you like no one else. Thanks for posting this.

  • @kw21925 Absolutely--comfortably numb's solo is perhaps the greatest guitar solo of all time and Gilmour admits he's very slow player and has to rely on effects to achieve the quality of solos he can produce, especially live. Another guitar solo that has brought me to tears many times. Have to stop whatever I'm doing when it is playing and wait until it passes.

  • @rottmannash Yeah, Comfortably Numb was a fantastic guitar solo. I wouldnt call it the best solo of all time, but it was certainly one of my favs.

  • Just beautiful, thanks for posting this.

  • This should be nominated for an award. Leslie West at his best. He's right up there with Hendrix and Clapton.

  • Honestly , I don't think people can pick their influences as far as playing an instrument.

I had been playing guitar for about a year when i first heard this song , or for that matter seen this video.

Since then I cite West as my biggest influence playing. I've never in my life heard a better guitarist, or at least not one that got to me than much.

  • Fantastic version.

Had this on video for years and almost wore it out.

The whole concert was shown on TV in the UK - I think it was called A Night of a Thousand Guitars.

Loads of acts on the show but this was the best performance.

Thanks for posting, and great sound.

  • WoW!!!! Simply beautiful!!

  • that big man gives me chills when he plays that song. Soooooo expressive with his quitar on that song... One word. WOW!!!!!! awesome

  • spine tingling stuff

  • SENSATIONAL indeed! The King of Tone, Feeling and Power - that's what Leslie should be called.

  • Totally desirable tone!!!

    Awesome performance!!!

  • This is tremendous-just absolutely fabulous.........

  • This version is better than the original..I dont know how you can top that but Leslie did it!!

  • evilskunny, first heard of Leslie West when I saw a headline " man mountain topples the Clapton crown". Was front page on the old Disco music paper and Had Jeff Beck, no less, raving about the greatest guitarist in the world. Incidentally Clapton and John McLaughlin agreed with him.

Lots of what Beck does now can be traced back to Leslie west although Beck has taken it further, to the point where he rivals Leslie as the king of taste.

  • Leslie West. The King of "Taste"?

Something wants to make me laugh very hard about that title.

  • @depper I thought Rory Gallagher was in Taste. Arf,arf, arrrfff!

  • @depper What is it that makes you want to laugh very hard at that title?

  • The way he abruptly ends the song is like; "There is nothing I, or anybody else could or should add to this", and that's indeed so. Mind blowing, it almost brings tears to my eyes.

  • ive listened to this quite a bit lately''this is way better sounding than the one on the Greatest hits''what a Guitar Tone''OMG

  • Ok folks, its LIVE! Check out my review of "Leslie West: The Sound and the Story DVD" on the Great Fatsbies website!!

  • Sounds a lil like jeff beck''no dis respect to leslis''he is great''

Taste, feeling and concentration + sustain and vibrato = Leslie West

    Thanks for posting

  • I have missed this so much... i recorded it off tv years ago

thank you, thank you, thank you

    (sob)

  • you have just made my life complete been lookin 4 this for years thank u THANK YOU SO MUCH

  • I understand.

As a kid I always wanted to pick up a guitar. I was always afraid though that Id never be able to express my soul on it.

This very song, from this very video proved to me you could MAKE a guitar TALK.

  • THERE is a tone change in the solo as he changes pick up i am aFANatic ha ha ha as u can c great stuff THANK U AGAIN

  • Wicked sustain on that axe-

20+ years ago - leslie can hang.

  • Look at that solo starting at 3:14

  • Is that a chorus pedal I hear?

  • Beautiful.........Thanks for sharing great video!

  • Outstanding great emotion and feeling on the guitar.

  • On vocal and bass is actually Derek Holt from Climax Blues Band. I think he did a spectacular job aswell. Jack Bruce always loved how Leslie "owned" this song on guitar, but vocally I'd put Derek right under Felix and Jack. Not bad company...

  • Who`s the bassplayer/singer? He`s pretty good!
