Its a fabulous film. and his mother not the most solid lucid person to look after roky. As she seems to have alot of weird demons of her own. that almost using roky as a Crutch for her own Insular living. But since the film Roky is looking great , hes touring again and playing the tunes he and we love to hear. Nothing more Therapeutic than music . or painting . And as roky is so damn good at both. I can only think hes going to become much stronger. Good to see you well Roky
@skawashers I hear you:) For me Roky is something that i never forget, one of the greatest musicmakers. Unic person, and yes i really enjoy that he´s back in music:)
Where can i watch this movie.I am from Serbia and 15 years old.So i cant Sign up on Netflix. Can someone tell me where I can watch this for free on internet.
I really love Roky Erickson and i would appreciate you very much.
I hate the way these men treat their mother. She is a nice lady, and she only wanted the best for Roky. I think they need to show her a little more respect than that.
Hello, My Friend Fingerman introduced me 1st to your music, 2nd to your remarkable story. I am in awe of the many different climbs you have made! I have been trying to find your movie to no advail.I have looked in 5 different counties, So I thought OKay this IS after all Georgia haha SO I was in Chattanooga, Tennessee 1 day & the idea hit me that maybe I could find it there..Nope! I have 1 last place to look. Any ideas as to where I might find it? Thank You for sharing! With MUCH Respect, Donna
what was up with roky's mother in this movie? she had made all these crappy posters about her life with pictures or something? maybe im missing something ha
This is a long shot but: if Roky his self or anyone that knows Roky should happen to read this, I'd like for him to check out a YouTube video of a guy that he should remember. As I understand he is a lost friend of yours Roky. Check it out if you want to get in contact with him I can now help with that, Message me on here (YouTube) about him. Click my user name to understand what I'm talking about.
I love Roky Erickson. He fucking Rocks! I have one of his albums. I would like to get his other ones! I like his song Burn the Flames. YOU can get high to that you know lol! Hey you think Roky erickson is scary remember SYD BARRET from Pink floyd, another guy I really liked. Psychadelic Rock is one of my favorite Genre!
Great outsider artist. Very spooky stuff. I love outsider artists like Roky, Jandek, Smog, The Atlantic Manor, Songs Ohia, Half Japanese... you get the point. all great stuff!!!
I am really excited that I am going to be seeing him today at The Austin City Limits Music Festival. And after seeing this movie it is really cool to think that he is ok enough now to actually perform. He is a legend indeed.
The POWERS THAT BE knew Roky's philosophy through music was freeing up the subconscious mind thus taking the POWER away from our CONTROLLERS and that is the reason for such cruel punishment. The Elevators were REALLY trying to set the human conscience free...
And this type of view could catch anyone a case of shock-treatment...SCARY!!!!
What's tragic is that Roky went to a mental hospital on possession of a matchbox full of bud, and received shock treatment which caused him trauma and psychological damage that still hasn't healed to this day. He lost most of his life over a matchbox of pot.
Rocky and I went to Travis HS in Austin together. I saw him daily, watched him play around the clubs in Austin. He was then and is now a great person and a great man.
As a long time fan...just recently saw this as well. One of the saddest most uplifting docs I've seen in a long while. Glad he's out there again- looking good, playing well. Mental illness is just that-an illness - that we quite don't understand...yet. God Bless Roky
While most of these events transpired well over 30 years ago, the film proves the draconian kneejerks courts will serve the mentally ill instead of getting the help they need.
Of course, this is assuming the patient wants to be helped.
The understanding of mental illness is in its infancy; therefore so is the treatment of it.
Well he is back ! A long wait is over . He has IT back . Paranoia from how police acted back then is hard to get over , there still acting like fascist in Harris County and anyone that believes your innocent until proven guilty is nuts , you are Guilty until you prove your innocents , with no refunds !
Well yes,Houston is in Harris County and yes they are still fascist. Corruption is rampant. I was sitting on the floor at the Living Eye waiting for the 13th Floor Elevators, who played there often ,got brutalized and dragged around by my hair the usual, on Acid ,I was told they busted Hall for a small amount of POT ,You would have thought we did something serious .
Don't think they played that night. Not sure if that was the same paddy wagon ride night.
Hell ,I thought that was the norm in New Orleans back then!Peace Love and an ass kicking from the Pigs!13 Floor Elevators,
Man ,did they catch hell.I got stabbed in the wrist wile playing ,my drum set looked like Texas Chainsaw massacre, I did not notice untill I slid off my seat, forget that clubs name close to the Galleria went to The Cactus Club with a soft cast on my wrist to see a friends new band,my luck,it was raided, they stomped on my hand and beat me for hours, almost lost my hand ,Oik
Rocky had the best rock n roll voice of all time, to me anyway.the absolutely most rockin' high notes.I saw in october at the el rey here in L.A..hes still got it.
there is an online petition now available to get Roky nominated into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! We need to get 10,000 signatures on this petition, before I can send it to the nomination committee. Send me a message and I will email you the link to sign it!
Aww.. The 13 Floor Elevators played at a place in Austin, called The Jade Room in the late 60s..what an awesome group.. and Roky was truly a gifted person.. crazy? I couldn't tell from his performances there.
Rocky Erikson is a genius and way way above anything Dylan manged achieve. Can't wait to see this film. Rocky speaks wise words,,,,we should all listen a bit harder.
I saw this film and Roky at The Granada in Dallas last night. The older fella talkin' 'bout Roky writing and playing worked out at Rusk State Hospital during Roky's stay there. Roky played, with The Explosives, for over an hour!! I thoght I'd nrver see this day come! The show was great! He was called out for a double encore!
I swear that EVERY time I see that close-up photo of Roky in his PRIME, my heart literally SKIPS A BEAT:what a GORGEOUS FACE he had, just as BREATHTAKING as his VOICE was! Hell, for ALL he's been thru he STIll looks pretty GOOD! :)
That is interesting, since the film goes up to 2005 in the events in Roky's life and I was thinking that it wasn't even shown publicly until 2006 in TEXAS.
It was shown at the Ritzy Cinema in Brixton, London. I can't remember the exact date - maybe it was late 2005. The director Keven McAlester was there and gave a Q&A at the screening. And gave me two promotional posters/cards of the film too.
Thanks for the info. Since you've seen it already, can you tell me WHO is the old gentleman seen here explaining that Roky only wanted to write and play his music, and WHO is the woman who is heard here discussing Roky?
WHY are you directing your retort at ME?! Okay, since you've dragged ME into this, I'll go on the record in regard to DYLAN.

Babyhowdy233, I was actually directing my comment at Lamvesp, who posted directly below me. I stand by my reply. I like Roky alot or I wouldn't be here. I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing this! I didn't "discover" Roky until about 15 years ago and I'm constantly amazed by his music, when is it coming out?
