Thanks for the video, the skyfari was my favorite attraction at the zoo when I was growing up. I got yelled at over those big speakers for rocking the buckets once. It seemed like everyone in the zoo looked up at me shamefully. I can still remember the breathless feeling I would get when you left the track in the station and floated skyward on the cable...
Thanks for the comment on my video of my family riding the Skyfari at the Omaha zoo. I fail to see where you might have gotten the idea that it would be appropriate. I didn't name it and my family was extremely excited to ride it as it is new to our zoo this year.
one time when i went on this, the ride stopped and there we were - hanging in midair! it was freaking scary! i think about that every time i go on these rides now, it has yet to happen again...
I haven't been home there in over 20 years. I was just writing to a skyride enthusiast who has many vids of skyrides and could probably identify the SDZ (San Diego Zoo) ride type!
i'm glad these rides are still around. It was a part of my childhood. As we know children learn and absorb sights, sounds and experiences without them knowing. That's why your vid sticks out in memory. I did that growing up in SD.
i hope you can try and save them.we have 12 here in the usa.why is the bav trying to get rid of them?i never understood that.and isnt there a group called pro sessel that is at least trying to save it as a museum course?
Glad to see that in the US there is some VR101 skyways still in activity. By us in Switzerland only two survives, and one will end the activity by the end of the year. And we are not sure to succeed to save the last one.
THe Bronx zoo is twice the size of the San Diego Zoo. So I think there's more to see. Plus, I'm sure seeing moutains in the distance is nice, but there's nothing like seeing the majestic New York skyline.
I've been to both. SD Zoo is a billion times better and much larger. The setting (its also a famous botantical garden) goes up and down hills and valleys so even though my map it may not look like it, the amount of actual s.f. is larger. Also more animals because at the Bronx they are more spread out. Also more endangered species at the SD zoo. I think maybe the second best I've been to would be in D.C., then third would be Lincoln in Chicago.
actually the san diego zoo is rated as one of if not the best zoo in the world, when it comes to taking care of the animals, plus zoos are really meant for rescuing injured wild animals they're not meant to be amusement parks even though they may seem like it
One of, yes, but i would have to say the Bronx zoo is better, AND more famous.
First of all, it's twice the size of the san diego zoo, plenty more to see and do.
Secondly, as you mentioned conservation, the Wildlife Conservation Society works at the Bronx zoo. They are in over 70 nations right now, trying to help animals. It's one of the largest conservation societies in the world.
The San Deigo zoo is nice, but it just honestly isnt as good or as famous as the Bronx Zoo
i dont like to argue about what zoo is more famous, but one thing is the san diego zoo never had a derailment on there skyride.the sd zoo skyfari is older than the bronx zoo one.the bronx zoo patterned there skyfari after the one out here in san diego.look at the towers...

The Bronx zoo is twice the size of the San Deigo zoo. The Bronx Zoo is the largest urban zoo in the United States.
I've been to both as well, and I found the SD zoo very boreing. There was nobody there when I went to the SD zoo, and the food was horrible.
I just like the Bronx Zoo better.

they both have vonroll skyrides...thats what matters..

I loved going on this when I was younger. My grandfather was a zookeeper at the Zoo.

how much does it cost to ride it?
mistermickeyman 4 years ago
3 bucks.well worth it..
vonrollskyway1 4 years ago
Reminds me of the Six Flags St. Louis ride called the Sky-Way. Sadly most skyrides have bars on the cars nowdays making you feel like a caged animal.
