toby si svegliò in un cottage buio. la mamma non era ancora tornata. era solo e molto spaventato. il cottage era a gibilterra e conosceva tutta la planimetria del pianterreno al buio. dalla sua camera passò in salotto e guardò nella camera della madre. il letto era vuoto, come sapeva che sarebbe stato. le luci non si accendevano. si sdraiò sul letto della madre ma la paura era anche lì. tornò nella sua camera e tentò di accendere le luci. non se ne accendeva nessuna.

ora nemmeno le luci nella sua camera funzionavano. aprì la porta del cottage e uscì. fuori la luce dell'alba, ma una pesante oscurità aleggiava dentro il cottage come una nebbia nera. decise che non avrebbe passato un'altra notte lì. chi non avrebbe passato un'altra notte lì? lui era due persone: il ragazzo che abitava nel cottage e qualcun altro.
