@RBLA818 OCD does tend to give sufferers a low disgust threshold. Odors that are barely or not detectable by others can completely consume my attention for hours.
Zolpidem (Ambien) hey. i am an ocd patient too...suffering one hell of anxiety. obsessins compulsions....there is a medicion Zolpidem (Ambien)..it called zolpidem in my country..its salt is ambien..for my brothers and sisters who are in various countries...it really relaxes and normalises u for some time...no medicine works for me like this..please try this..its an ordinary medicine for anxiety and sleeping but it really works...for those who need further help email me @ahmedjaved_45@yahoo.com
If a person is easily disgusted with the smallest things, things which most people would never think about. Is it also a form of OCD? Or is this something else? Is it a matter of low Serotonin?
is there anybody else here who has this but its not like you spend hours a day performing rituals, but you do compulsions randomly, like blinking your eyes in strange rythms, or rubbing your fingers against eachother, just for like 4 seconds at a time? also if you do have this let me know what your self esteem is like, cuz i have probably like one of the lowest in my whole school, and i have this, and i want to see if it's related.
I do when I work and get nervous, or get too much caffine I tend to twitch my nose to try to push my glasses up, or streach my hands a certain number of times to make sure I dont get carpel tunnel syndrom. and I sit there and do is so often the excersizes risk giving it to me. I also have low self estime for fear of letting stuff go to my head and being arrogant.
If you don't search for and watch "sleep with a jellyfish", then someone will come at your door in 10 minutes, and kill you. The dude has striped pajamas. Send this on 4 other videos, or he'll also eat you.
I beleive the primary reason which people cannot deny their OCD is because of the false feeling that not surcoming to their desire will harm them in a sense, and therfore must be wrong. I doubt it is easy, and not performing certain ritual behaviour must feel horrible at first, comparible to commiting a very moraly incoherent act. However, once someone stops this ritual for a long period of time, and see's no ill omen has befallen them, they may once again live freely.
Hi, Is smoking a part of OCD, as it is a habit and the people who smoke are aware of the bad effects of smoking like doctors, i know a few who smoke when asked why they come up with really stupid reasons. If smoking is an OCD then can we cure it with the help of REBT or CBT. The problem is these smokers dont wanna quit. please advise..
I don't think smoking is a part of OCD. OCD is when you HAVE to do something and if you don't something else will happen like if i don't turn on and off the lights 15 times your family will die or something like that. Just because you know it's not good for your health to smoke and still do it, doesn't mean that you have OCD.
@syed15j when you don't do the things OCD asks you to do, you get a feeling like your being burried under ground and can't move a muscle (best way I could describe it) I don't think smoking does that to you
I've had OCD since I was a kid but never knew what was wrong with me until a couple years ago. I'm 30 now. It's a horrible existence because you are completely aware of how irrational your thoughts are, but you cannot escape them. My obsessive thoughts have always been about someone I love dying. Because of this I avoid relationships, friends and family because I am too afraid of getting close and then losing them. It's an incredibly lonely way to live. I wish I knew another way.
@MrBurritoSupreme I'm not a doctor, and I'm not an OCD sufferer, but my home is full of books on psychiatry and cardio-thoracic surgery, and if I'm not mistaken, a drug called Anafranil (or maybe Anaphranil) is useful for OCD.
yea you got that right, though sometimes in the exstream forms if can look funny, even though it is anything but for the person suffering, I know sometimes I laugh at myself for when I think my rituals have gone too far, in the grand scheam of things.
@manga12 I don't mean to sound puerile, but are you dyslexic as well as an OCD sufferer? I'm not demeaning either medical condition. Both my parents are cardio-thoracic surgeons & my sister is a consultant psychiatrist, so I'm mindful of the way I approach touchy subjects. But the correct spellings are "extreme" and "scheme." Have you ever had yourself tested for dyslexia? Also, Anafrenil has a half life of about 35 hours. My sister tells me 50mg in the morning and 100mg before bed would help u.
NO I am just a lazy speller, I never spelled very well, and I have never been great with sentance structure. though I am sure if I really want it to look nice spellcheck would work wonders.
My friend had the same thing for many years. Finally, he went to psychiatrist who treated him with medicine and he is doing very well and enjoying life again. Wish you a better life too, good luck!
Thank you for posting this!! It helps. I sorta find myself clinging to the words she says becuz I need comfort that there IS a way not always involving medication that can somewhat manage my obsessional thinking. Hearing other people talk about it professionally helps a lot at least.
You can never be healed from OCD you will always have it but you will learn to control it. Three Years ago i had really strong OCD and i went to CBT treatments in two years and now i can control my OCD.
I have High anxiety which cause me ADHD. i'm 17 years old. i trough i had OCD cuz on wikipedia they say peoples with Onychophagia are OCD peoples.. but it's just Anxiety AHHAHA KNEW IT LICK MY BALLZ AHAHA
i am 14 and have OCD i am somewhat obssesed with the number 12, if i do something small such as tap my foot or pet a dog i HAVE to do it 12 times, if i pass 12 then i do it 24 times, and so on. if i clench my fists with all 5 fingers, i have to clench it again with only 2 fingers, and then 5 again, to make 12, then i do that 11 more times, but i believe ocd shouldn't need therapy, MAYBE treatment, over the years i have been able to control what i do a bit more by letn ppl know, maknme mor comft
Overcoming OCD takes a lot of strength and willpower. You basically have to ignore the thoughts no matter how bad they get and not view them as real. It is very difficult but not impossible. I have done that and this type of approach does work. That is what CBT basically is.
I was diagnosed with OCD bout 1 yr ago, am having all those disturbing thoughts and BIG anxiety from them. Considering those rituals i would say i have some "mild" form of them, sometimes i triple check some things. Dont get me wrong, i said "mild" because i see some ppl have waaaay more bigger rituals.
I do not think Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is effective. Medications are more effective. There are therapies, such as Solution Therapies Online that can make a huge difference as well.
I think medicine is for weak people, CBT is for strong people who learn to control OCD and disturbing thoughts. With medicine you become an drug addict
its so hard to explain to people about it they ask why dont you just not do it? i get thoughts saying if i dont do this my mom will die or something and he happens all the time so that i would give in.
Most of the people I've seen for treatment all seem to bullshit their way through a session... they all take a long time stating things that I reapeat to them in one sentence. Basically what they say is "Just do it". For example if you have issues with touching something their solution is to just touch it. Frankly I can come up with that on my own without paying 150 bucks. I'm coming to a point where I don't want help from others and to just handle it on my own.
Also at the beginning, go and make a full blood and urine analysis including urine sediment to make sure you don't have contaminated water of food. Do this in 24hours of high OCD attacks and anxiety. If done after 24hours the substances may leave the body.
I agree, there is a condition called religious OCD. Those rituals are based solely on a fear of punishment for what "WE" perceive as imperfections, ..not what God actually perceives. Our self-judgment, not God's that can hurt us with religious OCD. Myths/Dogma are what an OCD person is trying to escape in the first place, so take the path of Reality, Love and UNCONDITIONAL self-acceptance. Stick with traditional Cognitive Therapy and avoid starting a whole new type of OCD & religious rituals.
IoanRomania09, those ritualistic behaviors would make it worse in the long run, using religion as a form of escapism from your ocd is no different from washing your hands 50 times a day.
i understand what your saying triplejpm i see because people use religion to try to escape from there compulsions or obsessions.its true because one who serves God must do it from there heart in other words they must really mean what they say and do and not use it Gods things as a routine or ritual so to speak.
The thoughts you have with OCD are not yours so there si no sin in having them. If tired of OCD do this for 40 days:
1.Every night read once the "Akathist to Jesus" that you can find on google. Jesus name will clean your mind.
2.After each Eikos say : God forgive my sins, unbind the magic done on myself, send away bad spirits to desert where nothing is living and don't let them came back to us anytime.
I have just realized that a long time close friend has ocd... theese vedios have helped me to understand her better and to look for a way to seek help, in her behalf, and mine because she has just about driven me crazy.... thanks
I don't know if the person in this video is going to get this but thank you. :) I'm not obsessive compulsive but this video actually helps my mental state A LOT when I watch it.
Read Explaining colours to a blind man. Not only will it enlighten many as to what living with a mental illness is like, it also gives comfort to those sufferers who think there is no hope and that they are alone. It is very informative, sometimes shocking but also very funny in parts. All in all, a good read and highly recommended.
try getting thoughts of hurting ones u love, and just random stupid shit.which u dont even wanna think about.then u get anxious and depressed. i have gad, ocd.depression, life has been hell lately but i aint giving up
People who have OCD know that it is nonsense--but something (a chemical Imbalance) withing the mind causes the OCD or increases the anxiety and therefore these irrational thoughts seem so hard to push away. Its very hard and yes nonsense but hard to stop unless you have extreme will power to just stop it on your own.I'm sure people have. It is hard for "outsiders" to understand.
It is very difficult to combat on your own. I was one of these lucky few who did it through sheer willpower, though I can help those who might struggle with this part. My case was so bad I that couldn't function. For example, when I swallowed, I had to think, "good, safe, alive...etc" and not picture anything in my mind that was bad. I had rituals for writing, blinking, turning off lights, shooting hoops...everything. I had over an hour of bedtime rituals, but luckily now it's gone.
Crazy69, if you'd like some help, I can offer it to you. I've helped others before. If I got over one of the worse cases imaginable without pills or therapy, I think other people can too if they really commit to defeating this thing. I'll have to ask you some questions first, to see if you can handle it. If you can't, (and there's no shame in that), it can make your OCD worse and I really don't wish that on anyone!
OCD has ruled my life for years now.. didnt understand it until just recently.. my doc never told me you have OCD they just put me on prozac and we did some cbt which is a pain in the ass.
wow this is so weird, i never knew i may suffer from this
but at night time, i HAVE to check everything is locked, like even if it is locked, i have to push the door handle down REPEATIDLY just to feel the resistance to tell myself it is locked, and i have to do this alot of times, same goes for windows and everything else
To Phantomlassuk x Are you saying you have OCD and it involves an obbsession over Cancer ? Because if you are don't be alone we got something in common x Fancy a chat maybe we could think of a way to work through it x If you think I am some freak ignore me lol I just wandered coz I need help and I guess you do too x
I have OCD and its really bad. I have intrusive thoughts constantly and its tormenting. Please help me,please.
I have been in therapy and on medication for over 8 years. I'm now on disability and I'm turning into a hermit. I used to have my own business and social life. I hate my life and have tried everything. HELP!
u r not alone ,,,, i have been suffering ocd for over than 8 years too ,,, & iv gone through medications and i was treated in hospital 3 weeks ,, and i still have ocd :S
and i dont know if iwill cure or not ,, but all i can say is ( keep fighting ) dont give up there is hope god willing : )
One video won't help--it takes a awhile to train your brain. There is scientific evidence to all this stuff. How do you think certain monks can slow there heartbeats way, way, down with their minds? You can also take St John's Wort, 5-htp, magnesium and Inositol (a particular B vitamin). Also, exercise--get those endorphins going!!!
Im 14, ive had OCD for 5 years, this video does njot help, and righjt now im hateing life, my ocd isnt like coudting or somehing, mione is carrying a waterbottle. i hate myself when i have to go to a store and buy water. i cant stand it.

OCD has ruled my life for years now.. didnt understand it until just recently.. my doc never told me you have OCD they just put me on prozac and we did some cbt which is a pain in the ass.

Yeah, similar story with me, except I was on Paxil at one point, then Luvox, then Risperidol, then Luvox.
I've gotten by okay with some cbt, but I still have some problems.

I have been in therapy and on medication for over 8 years. I'm now on disability and I'm turning into a hermit. I used to have my own business and social life. I hate my life and have tried everything. HELP!

Yes, be patient, very patient, and also be understanding, provide love and support and encouragement.
I have it, it really sucks. I wish no one with this disorder.

What if the anxiety level does not come down? so the ocd cant can be managed.
kirksART 3 years ago 2
When the fear has got no connection to the reality you will soon notice that, and then the anxiety level will drop.
IF IF IF it wouldn't drop the therapy would either be stopped, or you wold add medication to make the levels drop.
