NOTE that I have not read all of the comments on this vid.
I bought one on eBay, more or less based on this review. What was not mentioned, or that I missed, is that the Shape control can affect the Rate of the effect. I really DON'T like this. That said, the Shape control does allow a wide palette of trem sounds, in terms of duty cycle and almost a doubling of the effect.
Summary: I like this pedal, but wish that the Rate setting was constant no matter what the other knobs/switch are set to.
Great demo as usual, guys. If anyone wants to see more features of a pedal demonstrated, they should go to a store and play it themselves. Be happy with being able to go to a computer, type something in and seeing a video on it without even having to leave your chair. Babies.
I like this pedal... it's lush and has the kind of ping pong I want but it sounds too inorganic/metallicy. Are there any trem/vibrato pedals you can think of more organic in this price range? Analog preferrably?
@evilvon - look for one that uses sine waves as opposed to just square and triangle - The sine wave will be a smoother sound - maybe look for one you like that has all 3 waveforms. - I have one of these and love it tho, using a heavy depth or fast speed get out of a "usable" range fast. Pairing a deep tremelo with a delay can produce some weird results btw. look on my page with the video's i labeled "manic panic" and "product development' - I used some of the heavy settings coupled with a delay
As any guitarplayer with GAS, I keep looking for things I actually don't need. I somehow always have liked the tremolo sound. I had a tremolo pedal but I never really used it because it didn't fit in with my sound or I probably didn't use it properly.
But my sound has changed over the last 2 years and I think it's time to get a tremolo pedal again.... I really have to stop watching these PGS reviews, Andy can make everything sound like you can use it haha. I like the pedal though.
@ericryanmcgehee Could try a pedal designed for signal boost, MXR makes a great one called the MC401 Boost/Line Driver that I need to use myself. Are you using batteries or adapters to power your effects? That can make a difference as well sometimes.
@shuckuma No reason why not. Bass guitars work in the same way as normal guitars. The only thing you should REALLY think about in terms of bass-specific pedals are things that alter the tone/texture like fuzz or equalisers. Stuff like tremolo or reverb will have the same effect on either.
I use mine as a ring mod. or at least I get that effect. I have the depth at full, the shape at about 2 o clock and the rate up full! I get some nice sounds with it!
You just have to be creative - either that or tremolo just doesn't suit your style of music. I say this because I use tremolo a lot so I can't relate to your comment.
how do i keep it in time!!!! if i'm like jamming or whatever, playing the drums, it's impossible to keep in time with it, then i checked it with a metronome and it still wasn't in time. i tried putting the shape knob in the dead middle but that was too hard.
@TheLedGuitarist - We do, but it's not quite that simple. Our production process is finely honed and allows us to crank out videos rapidly. Breaking that down to set up and record a dual amp rig for one relatively inexpensive pedal would be time / cost prohibitive from a production standpoint. Our videos are intended to give a general overview of a pedal, not to be a an exhaustive demonstration of all it's features and capabilities. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching!
@dressedtosmellgood - False. That comment took about 22 seconds to type. It takes us longer than that to get up out of our chairs and walk over to the booth. Thanks!
@ProGuitarShopDemos You guys sell a bunch of VERY expensive pedals that have stereo outs, and you don't demonstrate the functionality of any of them. This guy has a point. It's not one inexpensive pedal. It's a vast array of stereo functions. Stereo pedals cost more in general, isn't it in your best interest to demonstrate why it's worth it?
Tap Tempo is tricky on a continuous time based pedal such as tremolo, chorus and the like because if the tempo of the song changes slightly you are all out of whack and have to re-tap the tempo. Doesn't matter that much with delay
When will people learn you simply shouldn't make time-based effects like delay, tremolo, phasers, etc if you don't have the option of using a tap tempo!
I've compared this to a Boss TR-2. The EHX had lots(!) of fun sounds but lots(!) of them weren't useable for me. @yanofolk Disagree with all of the Digitech hate. The Digitech DigiDelay (especially) and Digitech Digiverb are beautiful devices; ask Deerhunter. Not to mention the Whammy, of course.
I tried one of these out and I want it so bad. It maxes out every setting and has so many options compared to every other pedal. This is going to be the first pedal I ever get once I get a real amp.
actually, you can get a wide variety of non-tremolo sounds out of this pedal. I tried one in a guitar shop and they are awesome, very versatile. You can go from classic vintage tremolo, phantom-like sounds to ol' good ehx madness
well okay but I'm totally nub to guitar tech. I've played acoustic and I just got into electric and i like the way this sounds but I have no idea where this goes on the amp (which is just a crappy 15w).
Actually, this isn't a stupid question. Trem pedals are best utilized in an FX loop, which if you have one should be found on the back side of the amp. You want to put at Tremolo AFTER the preamp so that the effect doesn't get distorted as it goes through the head of your amp.
I've got this pedal. My favorite setting is the choppy square wave he uses around 4:40. Great for doing some johnny greenwood planet telex type stuff. Best tremelo pedal out there for anywhere near its price range!
does the rate knob work better on the old version of this pedal...cause i tried this one and the speed after 12 o'clock is useless, is the old version still available?
I have this pedal which i just bought a few months back..The first time i had it,i think it sucks but after a few time trying to tweak this pedal..it works great..i'm having a same problem with volume loss but just #@$% it..a small compact pedal that really save space to the pedalboard..
The middle know changes the duty cycle. I have this pedal. If you can overcome the slight volume loss it is great is is VERY customisable. If haven't yet seen a tremolo a tonal range as wide as this.
the only thing that separates this tremolo from the baddest ones, is its lack of a tap tempo function., otherwise, an awesome tremolo, especially when used in two amps.
Just because it doesn't have a way to change it on the fly or give you the option to use a tap tempo (internally or externally) doesn't make it any different from any other tremolo pedals. It's just as easy as a tap, unless your blind.
This is the way to go for a tremolo pedal, and if you add a boost to your pedal chain that should solve the volume loss.
I just bought this pedal yesterday and there is a volume loss as you mention. Mostly when set on a faster rate and with a chain of DISTORTION>PULSAR>AMP. It is dissapointing because I wanted to run my chain and maintain my level pretty even to get the desired effect but oh well. I'll be returning this pedal back to Guitar Center. On that note...I bought the Clone Theory...VERY COOL PEDAL. The vibrato is great :)
Looks like it controls the 'shape' of the LFO wave. A triangle will give you a smooth undulation, a square will go from up to down directly, with no 'ramp'.
Intro song please ? :) Thanks love your videos

Beautiful pedal, but i'm still really unclear on what the functions on the middle knob does.

Looks like it controls the 'shape' of the LFO wave. A triangle will give you a smooth undulation, a square will go from up to down directly, with no 'ramp'.

it changes the waveform of the tremolo. Basically how the volume raises and falls.
