My Band Director went to school with Mr. Bocook.. this piece of music was just made in a few days for a marching band.. then It got published. My band director is in the official recording playing trumpet :P
Still have not heard a trumpet solo in this tune on any version but the one we did in 1984's marching band. Our directors must have added it... If any one knows of another, I would love to know where to find it. You can see ours here on Youtube. "1984 OPHS Raider Band".
I'M 42YRS OLD AND WE PLAYED THIS BACK IN 82-86 IN OUR HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING/PEP BANDS!!!!!! WE PLAYED IT MUCH DIFFERENT THO.....WE WERE MUCH LOUDER IN OUR TRUMPETS (WHICH I PLAYED) AND IN OUR PERCUSSION SECTION.....I DIDN'T EVEN HEAR THE TRUMPET SOLO OR THE ROLLING GLISS FROM THE TRUMPETS @ THE END.....I STILL HAVE THE SHEET MUSIC LOL......GREAT SONG BRINGS BACK GOOD MEMORIES @ NORTHWEST HIGH SCHOOL .
I'm a Freshman right now and my band is playing this song. This song is one of those songs where the notes are not difficult at all. I find them quiet easy but I am the first chair first clarinet. Our band has a great low brass section and I must say our trumpets are amazing. I think 8th grade is a little young to be playing this song, but it's fine too, as long as they had the courage to do so and know that it takes alot of practice. I think the dinamics were off a bit, but it was good.
I didn't hear the flute trill at all. Was it even there? I play first flute part for this in our school band, and ours sounds way more complicated with more parts added in. Good job though.
I like how the band plays, even though I'm in orchestra. I wish we'd sound better...Mabrey should move out those who don't really bother practicing to sixth grade orchestra. (Its mostly obvious who doesn't spend time actually trying to practice.)

@yellowisok of course having the trumpets in front of everyone is a good idea. We are better than everyone else, aren't we?
