@RESTxINxPIECEZ you just made that up! obviously you dont know that cannabis is the 1# most nutritious vegetable.. you shouldnt use any substance if you dont understand it. your a bullshitter sir. you must respect it since its a medicine. but dont worry you made yourself healthy for a while thats all. prohibition is the harm. you must know what prohibition does to society??perhaps you should grow a plant get some of the leaves put it in a juicer and give some to your sick family.

No matter what this man does, he's just not likable. Even when he is trying to present himself as glib and ironic, he just isn't. He is as cold and wooden on the inside as he is on the outside. He would happily see the poorest of Canadians be compromised and taxed disproportionately to pay for the tax breaks he gives to the richest and most privileged of us. Those of you who believe this man gives a damn about working class people will be mightily surprised in the next four years.
@bboots100 FINALLY ! Another Canadian who actually thinks outside the box . All I ever get from others is how great Stephen Harper is and what a great thing he's doing to this country . I dont believe a word that blood thirsty tyrant says and its nice to know you dont either .
@MajBlood He is popularly hated by Canadians? Is that how he won both elections? Some uninformed Canadians dislike him, the ones who actually pay attention to politics and see what he's done for this country to like him.
@TooBeGoodAgain You are stupid. He won the election but not even close to 50% of the electorate voted for him. Also, I haven't seen a person in real life say anything good about Harper. He is just flat out hated and constantly being criticized by the media and popular culture like George Bush.
@MajBlood You clearly live in the east side of Canada, influenced by the idiots that breed there. Winning 40% of the voters proves that 40% of Canadians like him and his party. So how is that popularly hated? The entire world was experiencing a recession, and him along with the conservative party helped Canada's economy refrain from suffering even close to how other nations were. If you let the "media" and pop culture influence your political beliefs, then that proves your intelligence.
@TooBeGoodAgain You are a fool. I don't let media and pop culture influence my political beliefs. It is the other way around. Popular culture and media tends to be influenced by, and mirror popular opinion. You are obviously Albertan or something. And as everyone knows, the Prairies aren't even real Canada. Canada was born in the east. The prairies was just free lad that we settled with mass immigrants so we could take its natural resources.
@MajBlood Wow, you're actually intelligent to figure out what province I live in. And no, popular opinion is influenced by the media. It's why you're not supposed to believe everything you hear. Oh, and Alberta's the bank of Canada. Without our work force and resources, the rest of Canada would be economically "screwed." It's funny how you refused to respond to the part about Harper & the conservative party saving our economy from suffering as bad as the US has. Because you know it's true.
@TooBeGoodAgain That's not even close to true. Alberta is kept afloat by the oil sands, but outside that it's not an overly big province. Ontario is the bank of Canada. Ontario is the work force of Canada (38.7% of the population of Canada). As for resources, the oil sands are big. But Atlantic fishing and B.C. lumber also make up a huge amount of Canadian resources.
As for the Conservatives; what saved the economy were regulations introduced by liberals, and supported by conservatives. Both.
We need Transparent Participatory Democracy !!! This representative dictatorial shit has got to go...Hahaharper likes.....to kill babies on the other side of the world with bombs from billion dollar planes (THAT WE PAY FOR VIA TAXES) better than he likes to print our own money...
Harper did not deregulate the banks at all! Regulation came in under the liberal government ! Deregulation screwed the yanks and that is gona srew us all!
@mrorville1 Our form of it doesn't work. You're right, something needs to change because obviously the system is flawed. Either by accident and poor thinking or just to keep the right people's votes count. Which seems more likely though...? :(
Oh my god... The worst Canadian Prime Minister with the worst Canadian comedy... Im about...to falll..... asllleeeeeep. *YAWN*
Oh yeah and the Harper Government has completely ruined Canadian politics and has tried to strain it as far away from the publics eye as they can get away with. They took money to protect our border and used it to pimp out an Ontario riding.... and Canada elected these people.
.......but he did get elected. By the majority of the citizens of this wonderful, FREE THINKING country. Soooo..........um......stop insulting our intelligence and move somewhere else! Cheers!
@xxllrr88 lol.. if you think that conservative values are truly reflective of the average canadian then i must be living in a different country because most people i know that voted for him are more centrist like me. they voted for him because they prefer lower taxes. but there is just absolutely no way that canadians are big on tradition, or christianity, or big military, or easy access to guns, or old fashioned gender roles lmao.. please, canadians had no idea who they were voting for
@xxllrr88 it makes more sense that most people in canada voted for lower taxes if anything, but lets be honest, most canadians are not very involved in their own politics, my parents had no idea that stephen harper was once a member of the reform party! they knew more about the american election...
I agree with you, just under half of the total population of canada actually showed up at the polls. It's the younger generation that don't vote because their needs cannot be met or do not have access to information, or pot heads. Also in response to guy commenting on why George Bush was elected twice, that was because it doesn't matter if you vote democratic or Republican, it's the same shit (look at American governmental policies over the past 25 years, they're redundant).
@db11111 i disagree slightly, the dems like obama really are liberal progressives, and one day i think they sincerely hope to implement universal health care. the democrats have done a lot for social justice, but at the same time they're not afraid to lower taxes when they have to and they're not afraid to use military when they have to.
@db11111 Republicans on the other hand are divided between the religious social conservatives who are just plain war mongers, and then the extreme anti-government libertarians like Ron Paul who are completely against war.
This is why i disagree with the way politics are run in our "wonderful, FREE THINKING country" (slash corporate democracy). Although Harper did acquire majority votes in seats, he only really got 40% of the popular vote. The only reason why he gets elected by certain people is because older generations stick to one party and only ever vote for them, regardless of the platform. This would explain why certain parties are more successful in the west, in the east, Ontario, and Québec.
Well thank goodness your life will be better when your parents, grandparents, and all of the other thickheaded old people who built this country die off. It'll be wonderful not to have our democracy clouded by their ignorance...*sigh*
@db11111 That's definitely not true at all, most people voted LIBERAL for the majority of the time Canada's been a country. So how in the world are people "sticking to one party" when Liberal voters have gone down an extreme amount and the Conservative party won a majority?
@mrorville1 i completely agree, its been shown many times that people dont always make the right decisions when choosing a leader. Most people dont choose based on facts and research but by trivial things like which candidate has the nicer campaign ads.
Well I'd rather have a democracy than a dictatorship . I dont think anyone should be above the law . If you have a dictator that finds it "fun" to commit mass murder then there wont be a thing u can do about it . There wont be a thing the families of the victims can do about it either . Winston Churchill once said: It has been said that Democracy is the worst form of government, except all the others that have been tried .
@mrorville1 Indeed, how lucky the chinese are to be able to live in the factories they work in. Their families move in with them and they get to go to work, go to sleep, go to work ect. That's their life. You might also want to check china's annual suicide rate. Sounds like a dream come true down there. And under Harper you can expect alot less government if he goes through with his plans. Hell, he was the one to deregulate the banks which saved us from a very bad hit from the recession
@LoganBlackP Im sorry, at what point did i say the U.S had a good economy? It's extreme spending and regulating the banks that is putting the U.S into a deeper shithole. And what do you mean we can't afford to deregulate? It allows the banks and businesses to do there jobs. Why would you want the government doing that. They can't run a fucking post office properly yet you're willing to let them control banks? But just out of curiosity, tell me why you think deregulation will hurt us?
@mrorville1 You're right, we need to be under a dictatorship like cuba, north korea, and all those middle eastern countries. After all, it's working so great for them.
@Victoly 60% yeah sure, the majority of voters want Stephen Harper! And the rest of the people who didn't vote are comfortable enough with the way things are. Comfortable enough to not go out and vote for someone else, at least.
@HeyItsFritz The majority of voters did not want Stephen Harper; the Conservative party received just under 40% of the popular vote, but were able to form a majority government with that amount due to vote splitting among the other parties as well as areas of low-population density (where each person's vote counts for more, such as the Prairie provinces) voting heavily Conservative. The "majority of voters" do -not- want Stephen Harper, and such a statement is patently false.
@HeyItsFritz I admit that making the jump from "Canadians who chose to vote" to "all Canadians" isn't entirely justified, but it's reasonable to assume that non-voting Canadians on the whole have views similar to those who vote - or even disapprove of ALL Canadian parties (including Harper's Conservatives) more strongly than those who vote. Some who don't vote are complacent, but that is not the case for all non-voters.

@brian7125 well duh, the Prime Minister is supposed to live in Ottawa.
Jeez guys, stop being so bitter. Harper is here to stay. Maybe go to America and start paying for everything if you hate him so bad. I'm sure George Bush will treat you just fine.. sarcasm.
@brian7125 ooh, that's a good one. But I'll have you know that one; I'm a girl. And two; I don't spend my all of my time saying how bad one candidate is.
@brian7125 you little bastard. Do I sound like a man to you? Men aren't as smart as me. I don't know what kind of men say jeez, but I sure hope they're not any of the men I know. Plus, I think I'd act a little different if I was a man. Perhaps I'd act like a jackass. Like you.
the eo in my username stands for Emma Olivia. Bitch.
@DrinkSkateSleep They're making fun of politicians who flip flop on issues. By the fact that he's delivering the line, means that he's no considering himself to be one of them. If you know Harper at all, he's not a flip flopping politician.
@MisterWite1 It does seem like something he'd do... but I really doubt it. He visited Elizabeth May's riding three times during the election campaign, because he was seemingly worried (with reason) that Lunn would be unseated. Looks like that didn't help his cause, and May won :P
may is a joke, she's tried 4 ridings across 4000 kilometers and was involved in a voting scandel with the liberals that she still lost. harper gets more votes in his riding than any other party leader
@deejer82 It is difficult for a small party to beat our backward first-past-the-post system, but she did it. Harper does get lots of votes. He is the best at lying to the public and convincing them he is a great guy.
Also, if you want a voting scandal, how about that in and out scandal that the cons used to get elected back in 2006. We have a ruling party that came to power on a huge lie. Great.
v9vREBORN believe whatever you want... Someone will always try to take over the world. WW2 was Hitler and the Nazis... Now its a group called bilderberg that will determine WW3 probably. As for the devil... is a representation of someone who sold his soul to the dark side(greed, not literally). I'll definitely read Truthers because i don't beleive every conspiracy theory is true. In fact most of them are wrong. But the ones that are true are undeniable. Maybe you should read the bible
@geekintheperimeter Or he is very good at misleading the general public. You know, attack ad after attack ad, lies, deceit, etc, and you bought into it.
They're already gone back on their promise of balancing the books by 2014/2015. What other election promises were just lies to get the gullible masses to vote for them?
@geekintheperimeter Where did I say that they don't? As far as I know, the NDP's ads were borderline attacks... not as forward with a negative message, more a statement of the shortcomings of the Harper government. The Greens didn't resort to attack ads at all. The Liberals and the Conservatives were the worst for it. I believe they each had to pull an ad for false statements, did they not?
Of course, we know the cons spend far more money on 'promotion' than the other parties. in-and-out?
@jimtube84 - But this IS demcracy, is it not? To vote for whom you please? I am sure that the minority that voted for the Marxist-Leninist party don't believe in democracy either. If the Liberals had won, or perhaps even the NDP, I doubt you would be worried about democracy then.
@bgibb101 What I am saying is that the election is part of our parliamentary democracy. It is not unnecessary. And yes I would be less worried about our democracy if it was under the care of the Liberals or the NDP then I am about it being controlled by a majority Harper government. I do not trust Harper with it. However it is true, Harper did win a majority of seats, I also believe we need electoral reform with proportional representation though. Regardless of who won.
@jimtube84 - OK, but how come we never hear about parliamentary reform when the Liberals are in government? I'm all for proportional representation, but my only concern is that the NDP will tax and spend us into oblivion.
@bgibb101 I don't know why? I was just starting to be able to vote when they lost to Harper... I'm not sure we don't? Glad we can agree on proportional representation. I don't know that I agree with the argument about the NDP because on provincial levels I think they've been pretty good, and I also don't think Harpers economic record is really something to brag about.
@bgibb101 Under the conservative government, we have the largest deficit in Canadian history. Some of this is due to the recession, however, the ... Harper (tm) goverment put is in a structural deficit BEFORE the recession by lowering our GST. His party started of with a large surplus, and now look at where we are.
Taxes aren't the enemy. You can't spend more money than you make. The conservatives don't seem to understand this, and want to cut corporate tax rates even lower.
@bgibb101 Oh, please, it was Harper and his conservatives who stood to gain the most from this 'unnecessary election.
Liberals were down in the polls, Layton was recovering from his prostate cancer, and Harper got the population to believe that it was the opposition who forced the election. Gullible people.
@NotjustGrey - Nevertheless, nobody ever expected Jack to get as far as he did. I applaud him for that. Indeed, Layton came over in a much more personable way and really connected with the voters far better than Ignatieff. The Liberals will recover I'm certain, but it will take them a long time. So, who will be interim leader?
@NotjustGrey actually iggy's inexperience was the reason. the budget proposed was a liberal budget - and iggy walked into it. Jack - being a sneaky little bastard decided it was better for the NDP even if the pc's won a majority. Jack and his team ran a great campaign. actually I'm pretty happy with the result. the bloc had there ass kicked, tyhe ndp scored big, and may won her seat.
@UpstairsMaid you're missing my point, but I am still somewhat satisfied with some of the election results. You probably know what I'm not satisfied with, but there is no changing that now.
@UpstairsMaid Oh, I know it was political maneuvering. Political maneuvering to grab power, we'll see how well Harper does in his four year term. I'd say "we'll see how well the conservatives do" but it's not like the individual MPs actually get their own opinion.
The promise of trying to balance the budgets by 2014/2015 has already seemingly been broken, but lets see where this goes. There is no sense in me complaining because it's not like anything will change for at least 4 years.
And the reason he stopped it is because you anarchist/pinko hippies start fucking shit up. Burn 2 police cruisers, practically rob a bank, smash a starbucks and tim hortons, yeah peaceful protesting alright. Once the anarchists arrive, GTFO or face a nose full of tear-gas. Until you DON'T fuck shit up, people are gonna be mad, and people are gonna try to stop "peaceful" protesters from protesting.
@doomsword86 Shut the fuck up you hippy, 90% of protesters are fucking morons that fight for dumb right like legalizing weed. Harper saved us in the recession, and Canada is a great country. There is no need for change and im glad Harper won again!
@Sk3L370R Maybe people protest weed because its been uneccesarily illegal for over 70 years..? Prohibition has never worked, do some research before you look even more stupid..
@BKFF20 Dont you ever tell me that weed is not harmful. I have seen what that shit does to people. First are foremost it caused my brother to come down with Paranoia Schizophrenia. His life is nearly ruined. Secondly, it is not healthy for anyone to inhale smoke you fucking plug. Do you know how many mental illnesses weed has been linked to? tons.
Keeping it illegal stops little children like you from smoking it to "be cool". There is no place for weed in society.
@Sk3L370R Wow, your brother gets schizophrenia.. Why is it that all the stoners I know aren't affected at all..? You can get schizophrenia without drugs lol.. I realize it's not healthy to inhale smoke, but why don't you google Dr. Donald Tashkin and get proven wrong you ignorant fuck... Let me ask you a question.. Why is it that the biggest and baddest criminals are in favor of prohibition? Alcohol is MUCH worse for you than marijuana.. Fuck, it'd be even more beneficial to the economy too...
@BKFF20 Well sorry i didn't know you were an expert. I guess the city doctor with all the masters degrees and PhD's was wrong about the diseases being heavily linked to marijuana usage? Wrong. About gangs, they are gangs because they abuse the law. Simply legalizing weed will just cause them to make money by gun smuggling, or crack etc. Go to a mental health center for teens. i guarantee you nearly 50% of the sick there abuse marijuana. Society is not mature enough for drugs, especially teens
@Sk3L370R Then I guess we should make Tobacco, Alcohol, Pharmaceuticals and many more illegal. At least by your logic.. fucking MC DONALDS ruins more lives and KILLS more than marijuana... SHould we outlaw mc donalds too? What about alcohol? what about tobacco?
Yeah did you know there are doctors out there proving pretty much the opposite of what you think.? Seriously You're just being ignorant. The research is there. do it.
@RottenHamburger - Sure he did. A global recession is all Stephen Harpers fault, just like global warming, genocide in Darfur and earthquakes in Japan. He also used mind control to win 70 seats in Ontario just to get a majority government. In the meantime, the Bloc has been destroyed, the Liberals have become an embarrassing irrelevance, and the NDP don't even have enough opposition seats to form a coalition government. Get on with your lives citizens, nothing terrifying is going to happen.
@bgibb101 Global warming may not be his fault but he sure as hell isn't doing anything about it. And he actually did use mind control to a certain extent. He influenced people with attack ads and all the dumbass rednecks fell for it. Ignatieff would be a great leader and he doesn't stoop to the same level as Harper.
@RottenHamburger - You want something done about global warming? Talk to China and India, the two biggest polluters on the planet. Ignatieff simply did not resonate with voters. He also spent 34 years of his life oustide Canada to boot, which did not help his cause. Layton was by far the best communicator in the election, but his promise to spend $70 billion that we don't have on all kinds of social programs didn't cut it with everybody. Harper is in...we'll have to wait and see.
@bgibb101 Just because China and India polute a lot, doesn't mean we have to. China and India also have over 1 billion people each and that's to be expected. We have a huge pollution problem because of the oilsands, which are fucking useless anyway and need to be gotten rid of. Don't give me shit about "big businesses", because then you would be contradicting yourself because you said the conservates are down the middle.
@RottenHamburger - 80% of China's rivers are now polluted because of their lax industrial standards. Alberta's oil industry is literally the engine that is driving Canada's economy. What do we replace it with? Should we kill off our own fossil fuel industry and Import from the Middle East? Big business? So who provides the jobs in Canada? Farms? Jack layton proposed an $70 billion spending spree. Where will he get the money? The oil sands of course that he hates so much.
@bgibb101 Your completely off topic. Just because they have lax industrial standars doesnt mean that we should follow by their example. And maybe if the oilsands are really that FUCKING important then find out a way to conduct their practices in a more -conservative- way, meaning reduce green house gas emissions. It's very possible, it's just the government doesn't think it will help anything.
Riiigghttt...so Michael Ignatieff didn't come to Canada to win. He didn't quit his job as a politician after he dragged down the party. He didn't just get a job at U of T. Stop smoking weed, get your ass up, and stop embarassing yourself.
@v9vREBORN Fuck off. He wasn't the one dragging it down. Harper saw a chance to take down the party through attack ads, and fucking IDIOTS such as yourself fell for it and believed every single irrelevant word. Stop sounding like a redneck who's trying to know something about politics.
@just4tunes Is that the best argument you can come up with? You right wingers are hardcore conservative no matter what logic anyone says. Your just ignorant little fucks
You're still denying facts. He came back just to win. Why should we trust some guy that came back from the States just to win the election, and fuck up the country? Now that he lost (and dragged the party into a black-hole) he's going to teach at U of T. It's not the Tories that killed the liberals, it's the Democrats.
@v9vREBORN Yeah your basically ignoring everyhting I said. The tories saw a chance to destroy him and they did. Maybe Ignatieff did come back just to win but that's because the liberals need a leader. He wouldn't fuck up the country, thats what harper is doing at this very moment
You know the conservative 'promise' to try and get rid of our deficit by 2014/2015? Yeah, they're already stated that they aren't going to try and do that anymore. Go conservatives!
@NotjustGrey well the liberals arn't gunna do it at all. Besides according to the facts the conservatives adverage about 200,000 jobs a year are created by them and 400,000 are saved that sounds pretty dam good if you ask me.
"Harper saved us from a recession"... We have the most valuable resources in the world, we shouldn't. And inflations at the highest in 20 years. Your an idiot
@RESTxINxPIECEZ I know he tries very hard to be a 'great Prime Minister,' but I sense that he has a hidden sort of socially conservative Tourette's syndrome. It's funny how you refused to respond to the part about Harper & the conservative party saving our economy from suffering as bad as the US has. Because you know it's true.
TooBeGoodAgain 4 months ago
@TooBeGoodAgain That's not even close to true. Alberta is kept afloat by the oil sands, but outside that it's not an overly big province. Ontario is the bank of Canada. Ontario is the work force of Canada (38.7% of the population of Canada). As for resources, the oil sands are big. But Atlantic fishing and B.C. lumber also make up a huge amount of Canadian resources.
As for the Conservatives; what saved the economy were regulations introduced by liberals, and supported by conservatives. Both.

@xxllrr88 lol.. if you think that conservative values are truly reflective of the average canadian then i must be living in a different country because most people i know that voted for him are more centrist like me. they voted for him because they prefer lower taxes. but there is just absolutely no way that canadians are big on tradition, or christianity, or big military, or easy access to guns, or old fashioned gender roles lmao.. please, canadians had no idea who they were voting for
Freethinker12341 5 months ago
@xxllrr88 it makes more sense that most people in canada voted for lower taxes if anything, but lets be honest, most canadians are not very involved in their own politics, my parents had no idea that stephen harper was once a member of the reform party! they knew more about the american election...
Freethinker12341 5 months ago
@Freethinker12341
I agree with you, just under half of the total population of canada actually showed up at the polls. It's the younger generation that don't vote because their needs cannot be met or do not have access to information, or pot heads. Also in response to guy commenting on why George Bush was elected twice, that was because it doesn't matter if you vote democratic or Republican, it's the same shit (look at American governmental policies over the past 25 years, they're redundant).
db11111 5 months ago
@db11111 i disagree slightly, the dems like obama really are liberal progressives, and one day i think they sincerely hope to implement universal health care. the democrats have done a lot for social justice, but at the same time they're not afraid to lower taxes when they have to and they're not afraid to use military when they have to.

@db11111 Republicans on the other hand are divided between the religious social conservatives who are just plain war mongers, and then the extreme anti-government libertarians like Ron Paul who are completely against war.
Freethinker12341 5 months ago
@xxllrr88
This would explain why certain parties are more successful in the west, in the east, Ontario, and Québec.
db11111 5 months ago

Well thank goodness your life will be better when your parents, grandparents, and all of the other thickheaded old people who built this country die off. It'll be wonderful not to have our democracy clouded by their ignorance...*sigh*

@db11111 That's definitely not true at all, most people voted LIBERAL for the majority of the time Canada's been a country. So how in the world are people "sticking to one party" when Liberal voters have gone down an extreme amount and the Conservative party won a majority?
TooBeGoodAgain 4 months ago

LoganBlackP 6 months ago
@LoganBlackP Im sorry, at what point did i say the U.S had a good economy? It's extreme spending and regulating the banks that is putting the U.S into a deeper shithole. And what do you mean we can't afford to deregulate? It allows the banks and businesses to do there jobs. Why would you want the government doing that. They can't run a fucking post office properly yet you're willing to let them control banks? But just out of curiosity, tell me why you think deregulation will hurt us?

@HeyItsFritz I think it's a pretty valid reason to be mad when over 60% of Canadians won't have their voices heard for the next four years.
Victoly 6 months ago
@Victoly 60% yeah sure, the majority of voters want Stephen Harper! And the rest of the people who didn't vote are comfortable enough with the way things are. Comfortable enough to not go out and vote for someone else, at least.
HeyItsFritz 6 months ago
@HeyItsFritz The majority of voters did not want Stephen Harper; the Conservative party received just under 40% of the popular vote, but were able to form a majority government with that amount due to vote splitting among the other parties as well as areas of low-population density (where each person's vote counts for more, such as the Prairie provinces) voting heavily Conservative. The "majority of voters" do -not- want Stephen Harper, and such a statement is patently false.
Victoly 6 months ago
@HeyItsFritz I admit that making the jump from "Canadians who chose to vote" to "all Canadians" isn't entirely justified, but it's reasonable to assume that non-voting Canadians on the whole have views similar to those who vote - or even disapprove of ALL Canadian parties (including Harper's Conservatives) more strongly than those who vote. Some who don't vote are complacent, but that is not the case for all non-voters.

@deejer82 It is difficult for a small party to beat our backward first-past-the-post system, but she did it. Harper does get lots of votes. He is the best at lying to the public and convincing them he is a great guy.

geekintheperimeter 8 months ago
@geekintheperimeter Where did I say that they don't? As far as I know, the NDP's ads were borderline attacks... not as forward with a negative message, more a statement of the shortcomings of the Harper government. The Greens didn't resort to attack ads at all. The Liberals and the Conservatives were the worst for it. I believe they each had to pull an ad for false statements, did they not?
Of course, we know the cons spend far more money on 'promotion' than the other parties. in-and-out?

jimtube84 8 months ago
@jimtube84 - But this IS demcracy, is it not? To vote for whom you please? I am sure that the minority that voted for the Marxist-Leninist party don't believe in democracy either. If the Liberals had won, or perhaps even the NDP, I doubt you would be worried about democracy then.
bgibb101 8 months ago
@bgibb101 What I am saying is that the election is part of our parliamentary democracy. It is not unnecessary. And yes I would be less worried about our democracy if it was under the care of the Liberals or the NDP then I am about it being controlled by a majority Harper government. I do not trust Harper with it. However it is true, Harper did win a majority of seats, I also believe we need electoral reform with proportional representation though. Regardless of who won.
jimtube84 8 months ago
@jimtube84 - OK, but how come we never hear about parliamentary reform when the Liberals are in government? I'm all for proportional representation, but my only concern is that the NDP will tax and spend us into oblivion.
bgibb101 8 months ago
@bgibb101 I don't know why? I was just starting to be able to vote when they lost to Harper... I'm not sure we don't? Glad we can agree on proportional representation. I don't know that I agree with the argument about the NDP because on provincial levels I think they've been pretty good, and I also don't think Harpers economic record is really something to brag about.
jimtube84 8 months ago
@bgibb101 Under the conservative government, we have the largest deficit in Canadian history. Some of this is due to the recession, however, the ... Harper (tm) goverment put is in a structural deficit BEFORE the recession by lowering our GST. His party started of with a large surplus, and now look at where we are.
Taxes aren't the enemy. You can't spend more money than you make. The conservatives don't seem to understand this, and want to cut corporate tax rates even lower.
NotjustGrey 8 months ago
@bgibb101 Oh, please, it was Harper and his conservatives who stood to gain the most from this 'unnecessary election.
Liberals were down in the polls, Layton was recovering from his prostate cancer, and Harper got the population to believe that it was the opposition who forced the election. Gullible people.
NotjustGrey 8 months ago
@NotjustGrey - Nevertheless, nobody ever expected Jack to get as far as he did. I applaud him for that. Indeed, Layton came over in a much more personable way and really connected with the voters far better than Ignatieff. The Liberals will recover I'm certain, but it will take them a long time. So, who will be interim leader?
bgibb101 8 months ago
@NotjustGrey actually iggy's inexperience was the reason. the budget proposed was a liberal budget - and iggy walked into it. Jack - being a sneaky little bastard decided it was better for the NDP even if the pc's won a majority. Jack and his team ran a great campaign. actually I'm pretty happy with the result. the bloc had there ass kicked, tyhe ndp scored big, and may won her seat.
UpstairsMaid 8 months ago
@UpstairsMaid you're missing my point, but I am still somewhat satisfied with some of the election results. You probably know what I'm not satisfied with, but there is no changing that now.
NotjustGrey 8 months ago
@NotjustGrey what harper did was basic political maneuvering - and if it had been chretien the libs wouldn't have fallen for it.
UpstairsMaid 8 months ago
@UpstairsMaid Oh, I know it was political maneuvering. Political maneuvering to grab power, we'll see how well Harper does in his four year term. I'd say "we'll see how well the conservatives do" but it's not like the individual MPs actually get their own opinion.
The promise of trying to balance the budgets by 2014/2015 has already seemingly been broken, but lets see where this goes. There is no sense in me complaining because it's not like anything will change for at least 4 years.

RottenHamburger 8 months ago
@RottenHamburger - Sure he did. A global recession is all Stephen Harpers fault, just like global warming, genocide in Darfur and earthquakes in Japan. He also used mind control to win 70 seats in Ontario just to get a majority government. In the meantime, the Bloc has been destroyed, the Liberals have become an embarrassing irrelevance, and the NDP don't even have enough opposition seats to form a coalition government. Get on with your lives citizens, nothing terrifying is going to happen.
bgibb101 8 months ago
@bgibb101 Global warming may not be his fault but he sure as hell isn't doing anything about it. And he actually did use mind control to a certain extent. He influenced people with attack ads and all the dumbass rednecks fell for it. Ignatieff would be a great leader and he doesn't stoop to the same level as Harper.
RottenHamburger 8 months ago
@RottenHamburger - You want something done about global warming? Talk to China and India, the two biggest polluters on the planet. Ignatieff simply did not resonate with voters. He also spent 34 years of his life oustide Canada to boot, which did not help his cause. Layton was by far the best communicator in the election, but his promise to spend $70 billion that we don't have on all kinds of social programs didn't cut it with everybody. Harper is in...we'll have to wait and see.
bgibb101 8 months ago
@bgibb101 Just because China and India polute a lot, doesn't mean we have to. China and India also have over 1 billion people each and that's to be expected. We have a huge pollution problem because of the oilsands, which are fucking useless anyway and need to be gotten rid of. Don't give me shit about "big businesses", because then you would be contradicting yourself because you said the conservates are down the middle.
RottenHamburger 8 months ago
@RottenHamburger - 80% of China's rivers are now polluted because of their lax industrial standards. Alberta's oil industry is literally the engine that is driving Canada's economy. What do we replace it with? Should we kill off our own fossil fuel industry and Import from the Middle East? Big business? So who provides the jobs in Canada? Farms? Jack layton proposed an $70 billion spending spree. Where will he get the money? The oil sands of course that he hates so much.
bgibb101 8 months ago
@bgibb101 Your completely off topic. Just because they have lax industrial standars doesnt mean that we should follow by their example. And maybe if the oilsands are really that FUCKING important then find out a way to conduct their practices in a more -conservative- way, meaning reduce green house gas emissions. It's very possible, it's just the government doesn't think it will help anything.
RottenHamburger 8 months ago
@RottenHamburger - OK, lets just shut down the oilsands for six months and see what it does to the economy.

@viper10011 4... he's the best at misleading.
