This is EXACTLY how I've played with my cat for his entire 15 years of life. We call it wrestling. He LOVES it. I have to wear a sweatshirt, though, because his claws can really hurt. He also purrs the entire time. When we're done, he'll lick my hand clean just to show me that he loves me. :-)
3. This cat comes up to me and licks and bats my hand with its paw untill i play like this with it!
4. This cat has NOT been declawed!!! She doesn't even dig her claws in. I said Ow for the effect of making a good video....(I know im sad)!!! but i was younger and sad back then!
5. You can't here verry well but she is puring all the way through, she is funny as she often purs and growls simultaneously, and always makes me and any one who meets her laugh :)
OK so I'd like to clear up some things about this video
1. this video was recorded on a really shitty old phone, in which the sound has a delay, therefore the sound and the actual footage isn't in sync!! It also doesn't recored fast movements well, so when i go in slightly fast at the cat it looks like im about takings its head off... when I'm not!
So it looks and sounds like I'm hurting the cat by grabbing it, I'M NOT!!!
Every cat owner has played this game at least once. And every cat owner has lost.
The thing to remember is that if the animal doesn't like what's going on it won't just lay on its back and stare at you, it also won't stop biting until it draws blood.
i don't know why you even had to make explanation...if that cat was mad or being hurt it would have took off or be in an attack position not rolling on it's back half the time, if a cat shows it's belly it trusts you, cat wanted to be played with...
I was just about to leave a comment in a similar vein. It's great that so many people are concerned with the proper treatment of animals these days, but it seems so many vocal, outspoken people really can't read what an animal very clearly says with it's body language, or understand the dynamics that pet owners and pets have that allow them to so transparently understand each other. Anyone who's been in the same zip code as any kind of animal in question typically knows at once.
@0x12d3 yes but then many people are not cat owners and don't understand the body language here, anyone who knows cats can see that this is just play, but if you're not familiar with cats then this looks bad... it doesn't help that the video uploader is trying to pretend that something bad is happening here.
I agree, it could be easy to misunderstand what's going on here, especially with the title and such; and it is noble for those people to speak up on the cat's behalf. I, like dythangel, felt a little indignant that Hayley would have to explain herself, but it was just my gut reaction. The folks concerned about the cat were absolutely doing a good thing .
@dythangel um...ok. Trust me when I say that this isn't always the case. I have SCARS from a cat that was showing me his belly. And trust me also when I say that a cat grabbing you and kicking like that can do a HELL of a lot of damage. I've watched mine tear open brand new regulation tennis balls...
hahaha i do that all the time with my cat everyones like. YOUR CHOKING YOUR FUCKING CAT! some guy was going to kick my ass over it. your being no more rough with that cat then you are with your dick!
Purrfectly normal kitty play, watch a pair of them wrestle and it's the same movements and counter movements. They love it, It's fun for them ,good exercise, and a nice way to bond with them. When mine have had enough, they just get up and saunter away with an "I won this one sucker!" look
The secret to this is to never move your hand away fast. If you make your hand play dead they will let it go :) I could do that all day long and never get scratches.
Ma kittys dont do that they r like never angry at ma family or to me when ma kitty male kitty crazy he was CRAZY AS HELL!!!!!!! and attack me O_o
and sometimes when they play they play and hurt ma dads foot XD and when im gonna play with them they hurt ma arm and hand it comes a little bit blood DX
I had stop playing this game with our cats. They loved it, but my arm was shredded, and once a cat learns this game they don't easily UNlearn it. Kinda like dogs, when you teach them tug-o-war. It never stops XD
im pretty sure we've all had times when we playing with out pets that they do tend to bite or scratch ppl be for real alright if the cat wasnt playing she'd defend herself
I have a retarted Kitten literally she was taken from her mom my my Sisters Friend. If you scare her she Turns around and Runs into a wall.
But she attacks you like that But meaning to hurt you (IT HURTS BADLY!) One day i was watching TV She jumped on the Couch so i was petting her...Then she looked at me and Clawed me in my Eye. Then one day i was laying down and she was on me. I looked away and she waited for me to Look Back...Then when i did she Clawed my face
It is not abuse. I play with my cat like this all the time. Then i just pet her and everything and she is fine with it. He/She is not harming the cat in anyway, shape, or form. He/She is simply playing with there very beautiful cat. It is not like they are slapping it and throwing it against walls Now THAT would be animal abuse, not this it is simply playing.
haaa i do this with my cat all the time. but now she is older she is less active, gives my hand a slap and walks away haha :L ,miss when she was a kitten :')
This is play and not abuse, but it is a stupid way to play with your cats. As a rule you never want to wrestle or play fight with felines. It takes a long time and a lot of pain to show them what acceptable rough housing is. It's better to have them associate play with their toys and affection with people.
@Dave0Gara I disagree. As kittens, they learn from each other and their mothers what "acceptable rough housing is." Most of the time it just takes some "crying" for them to realize they're hurting their playmate. Cats are very intelligent creatures, and while yes, you might get scratched or bitten, as long as you take care not to get too rough with them, usually they do the same for their human companions.
I should know, I've had 10 cats at one time, which is ridiculous. We're down to 7 now.
@bloodbaymare It really depends on the cat. Some are just more naturally aggressive than others. While some may learn how to rough-house within acceptable limits, others never figure it out. And once you have opened the floodgates for rough play, they will always look for it. A fifteen pound cat raking you with his back claws is not fun. A laser light or string toy is every bit as much fun with out the worry of bloodstains, pain or infected wounds.
SOME cats maybe like that, but seriously, most cats hate it when someone's doing that. This video is so wrong, if you want to show that it's not so smart to grab it's head, you should've just done it once! Your just doing it to be a dick.
I have a cat that loves to play like this. He will follow me around and trip me until we have a 'rough up' session. Believe me I come out on the raw end of the deal too!
This is not abuse because your not hurting them at all, however the more you do this the more you shape their attitudes. The more hostile you play with them the more hostility they will have later when they wanna play. So for exmaple it might not be good if you have small children because the cat might want to attack it for fun. Not that its going to hurt the child, we're talking a cat here.. But a dog is a different story..
Hehe everytime you reached for it's head i was like "OMG DON'T DO IT!!" XD also, to everyone else, how the hell is this animal abuse? it looks like innocent fun to me! :)
these are play bites...the poster obviously knew it and just named this video angry cat to get more hits...the only reason this cats ears are back is because he's really into his goofing
Oh this was DEF a game to the cat. Notice how the cat waited in place for the owner to place the hand on her face. If the cat was ACTUALLY angry or scared the cat would put as much distand between her and the person as possible, you would also hear a host of growling, hissing, and screetching type meows from the kitty. That cat was having a good ol' time in the vi and the owner was quite gentle. I have 6 cats of my own and am fostering one. I play in a simular fashion with my cats.
:D i play with my kitty like this all the time and she scratches when she plays (or sleeps, really...) and i'm allergic to the bacteria on kitty claws so i sore for a few days D:
I'd like to mention that declawing is actually quite inhumane; it's basically cutting the tips of the tips of the fingers off, not simply removing the claw.
I have two cats and I play like this with them both. One reacts the same as the cat in the video, and the other just looks at me like she is bored and then usually chases her tail or gets distracted by shiny things.
totally agree,my ats LOVE play fighting like this,My forest cat runs up and attacks my foot to start the 'fight',he loves it! Animal abuse is the tit ive just seen on here letting a 120+ decibel airhorn off right behind his cat whos hearing is soo much more sensitive than ours, this cats just enjoying a human hand to chew on! :-)
Apparently 113 people have never owned a cat and are bitter and jealous that we cat owners get to play with our pets.
Cats have fun doing this. My cat who lived to be a healthy happy 19 years would walk by randomly and if you put your hand in "THE CLAW" position he would run up and attack it because he loved being rolled around and wrestled.
My current cat also loves 'THE CLAW' but will roll on his back whenever I do it since he likes cuddling it more than attacking... my point still stands.
Yeah, mine likes it as well, I do like at 10 cm distance a fast closing up to his face, basically stopping b4 I even touch him, and the goes all in then (I have to wear long sleaves tho, for his hind legs claws, its his instinct, he cant help that, he does nothing real to hurt with front paws or with his teeth, just love bite). Any hurt to me is cos the way his claws flex out with certain movement result with his paws. Cant care less. And the teeth are never making a puncture.
animals don't play, they train; humans are the only species that engages in frivilous activity. A human can help their cat tremendously by helping them train. Any personwho thinks this cat is being abused has never owned a cat.
@Bobetholemew There was an interesting article published in a few journals noting that playing does happen in animal society, but as to why, they do not fully understand. I mean you can argue the semantics of what play involves and even the very definition, but from what is currently available in data, there is 'play' in almost all species and it has no benefits. Look up Sharpe and Fagen, they are both prolific writers in the field of play and function.
@guguigugu who the hell told you that? my cat uses her claws all the time and she loves honing her battle skills; cats usually engage their claws no matter what mood they're in.
@guguigugu I play with my cats this way and they don't use claws. They wrap their paws around your wrist and sort of lightly bite. The same way they lightly bite other cats. I don't have fur so usually the scratches I end up with are from moving my hand away or side to side and their teeth scratching me as a result. My cats never put their claws out when I play with them.
my kitten when she loves to play does that to everybody! shes so cute but she doesnt do it super hard. it hurts a little, but doesnt leave marks unless she actually scratches you., but she doesnt mean to hurt. awww my kitten is sleeping! so cute!
you can tell by the cats happy twitchy tail that the cat is having fun...plus watch other cats do it to each other you would know...GTFO animal abuse dumb fucking cunts
cat: I WILL GET YOU! hand: yes, i am, suicide bomber! cat: COME GET SOME! hand: yes, that is my job, that is what suiside bomber is! *GROWLING* *HISSING* *radio stadic* you: i wonder who won? *radio static* cat: this is cat, come in cats, launch the attack on all owners hand! MEOW!!! *radio static* you: uh oh, fluffy? why are you looking at me like that? fluffy? NO! *ROARING* this comment is based on a future true story. their were no human survivors
I play like this with my cats ALL THE TIME. People who think this is animal abuse are either A: WAY TOO DAMN DELICATE (like my aunt who thinks EVERYTHING is abuse.) or B: Never owned a cat in their life.
@Eternalsummersong Nah. Not all cats run. They bite back. This cat looks bothered. It didn't show much gesture for being playful. I have a cat for 10+ years. So, don't bother to teach me a "lesson."
@8588cee: Lol! Hon I grew up around cats AND dogs I know their Mannerism I know when they are angry, hurt, happy or in a playful mood I work for a vet. So as someone who works with Cats on a daily basis I know what I'm talking about. Lol! I hope that at least taught you a lesson kiddo. ^_~
anyone that has an issue with playing with a cat like this does not own one. cats by nature LOVE the hell out of playing like this, i bet that cat thouroughly enjoyed this. their best fighting position is on their back. also it gives them practice in case they need to do it for real so it is HELPING the cat.
Yeahhh my cat adopted this method of playing instead of chasing strings -_-. Im sure its a hoot for them but sometimes they get a little overzealous lol. Try tickling them when they grab on to you like that if you wanna see them really spaz out "THE TABLES HAVE TURNED!"
Yeah my cat plays like this too. I'll put my hand up and he'll actually jump right into my hand and then shrink back. And yeah, he purrs the whole time and then two seconds after I can pet him and he'll rub on me. So, unless this kid was actually grabbing the cat's head and yanking it around, I see now problem.
My cat will kill me if I ever do this to him

If that cat was angry, that hand would require stitches.
vdanker 3 months ago
@vdanker yes that hand wouldve been bloody if that cat wanted it bloody
slinkycream1260 3 months ago
I've seen angry cats, that's not an angry cat
phishfoood 3 months ago
Oh this was DEF a game to the cat. Notice how the cat waited in place for the owner to place the hand on her face. If the cat was ACTUALLY angry or scared the cat would put as much distand between her and the person as possible, you would also hear a host of growling, hissing, and screetching type meows from the kitty. That cat was having a good ol' time in the vi and the owner was quite gentle. I have 6 cats of my own and am fostering one. I play in a simular fashion with my cats.

:D i play with my kitty like this all the time and she scratches when she plays (or sleeps, really...) and i'm allergic to the bacteria on kitty claws so i sore for a few days D:

yea hes lovin that lol cute

My cat brings his claws out. He's mean :(.
I'd like to mention that declawing is actually quite inhumane; it's basically cutting the tips of the tips of the fingers off, not simply removing the claw.

My cats love to play like this.
patobeirne 3 months ago
I dont think it's abuse or that it's really angry, its rough housing but possibly annoyed at most.

I am continually surprised at all of the people on youtube who go from animal video to animal video whining abuse.

Hey hayley2637, why did u upload only 1 video!!!!!! I want to see ur cat.......
767Alaa 3 months ago
animal abuse? i don't see the person hitting or hurting the cat in any way. in fact, i see the cat eating the persons hand.
illbeyourend 3 months ago
@hayley263. If you want to play with cat, that way, you should wear a glove.
sandor139 3 months ago
I have two cats and I play like this with them both. One reacts the same as the cat in the video, and the other just looks at me like she is bored and then usually chases her tail or gets distracted by shiny things.
dagnyjetties 3 months ago
totally agree,my ats LOVE play fighting like this,My forest cat runs up and attacks my foot to start the 'fight',he loves it! Animal abuse is the tit ive just seen on here letting a 120+ decibel airhorn off right behind his cat whos hearing is soo much more sensitive than ours, this cats just enjoying a human hand to chew on! :-)

I used to grab my cat like that when she was kitten then she grew up mean
NicDevlin74 3 months ago
Apparently 113 people have never owned a cat and are bitter and jealous that we cat owners get to play with our pets.
Cats have fun doing this. My cat who lived to be a healthy happy 19 years would walk by randomly and if you put your hand in "THE CLAW" position he would run up and attack it because he loved being rolled around and wrestled.
My current cat also loves 'THE CLAW' but will roll on his back whenever I do it since he likes cuddling it more than attacking... my point still stands.
BeyondBracelets 3 months ago
Yeah, mine likes it as well, I do like at 10 cm distance a fast closing up to his face, basically stopping b4 I even touch him, and the goes all in then (I have to wear long sleaves tho, for his hind legs claws, its his instinct, he cant help that, he does nothing real to hurt with front paws or with his teeth, just love bite). Any hurt to me is cos the way his claws flex out with certain movement result with his paws. Cant care less. And the teeth are never making a puncture.

MY CAT IS JUST LIKE THIS OMG
alisonrosexx 3 months ago
animals don't play, they train; humans are the only species that engages in frivilous activity. A human can help their cat tremendously by helping them train. Any personwho thinks this cat is being abused has never owned a cat.

@Bobetholemew Actually....I think it's playing sorry
MultiYadada 3 months ago
@Bobetholemew There was an interesting article published in a few journals noting that playing does happen in animal society, but as to why, they do not fully understand. I mean you can argue the semantics of what play involves and even the very definition, but from what is currently available in data, there is 'play' in almost all species and it has no benefits. Look up Sharpe and Fagen, they are both prolific writers in the field of play and function.

if he's using claws then he's not really liking it 100%
guguigugu 4 months ago
@guguigugu who the hell told you that? my cat uses her claws all the time and she loves honing her battle skills; cats usually engage their claws no matter what mood they're in.
Bobetholemew 3 months ago
@guguigugu I play with my cats this way and they don't use claws. They wrap their paws around your wrist and sort of lightly bite. The same way they lightly bite other cats. I don't have fur so usually the scratches I end up with are from moving my hand away or side to side and their teeth scratching me as a result. My cats never put their claws out when I play with them.

I play like this with my cats ALL THE TIME. People who think this is animal abuse are either A: WAY TOO DAMN DELICATE (like my aunt who thinks EVERYTHING is abuse.) or B: Never owned a cat in their life.

You deserve it, because you can't just leave this cat f**king alone. It's obvious that this cat doesn't like it.

@8588cee: If it hated this then it would pull it's ears back growl and hiss and run.
Eternalsummersong 3 months ago
@Eternalsummersong Nah. Not all cats run. They bite back. This cat looks bothered. It didn't show much gesture for being playful. I have a cat for 10+ years. So, don't bother to teach me a "lesson."
8588cee 3 months ago
@8588cee: Lol! Hon I grew up around cats AND dogs I know their Mannerism I know when they are angry, hurt, happy or in a playful mood I work for a vet. So as someone who works with Cats on a daily basis I know what I'm talking about. Lol! I hope that at least taught you a lesson kiddo. ^_~
Eternalsummersong 3 months ago
@8588cee: It's called rough housing. Many cat owners play like this with their cats. Although I never grabbed my cat by the head.
Eternalsummersong 3 months ago
@Eternalsummersong I don't care what you have to say. Cats don't behave like dogs.
8588cee 3 months ago
@8588cee: If you don't care what I have to say why did you reply to me? Also I never said dogs act like cats. You may want to re-read my comment. :P

anyone that has an issue with playing with a cat like this does not own one. cats by nature LOVE the hell out of playing like this, i bet that cat thouroughly enjoyed this. their best fighting position is on their back. also it gives them practice in case they need to do it for real so it is HELPING the cat.
xylsplat 5 months ago 35

The real lesson is never pretend you're going to put ur cat in a bath tube full of water, them hind legs can tear ur stomach up pretty good lol
