I have a giant reference manual for my old SB Pro card that no longer exists. There's a whole chapter with extensive info on this program. This should be fun, testing this out. Maybe I'll make a video.
I used this in CMD on my Windows 7 laptop, it did work, but the voice quality was bad, tried it on my old Dell with WinXP, it worked like it was made for it (which it was not)
I wish now our old 486 had a Creative sound card in it, as it is the computer had some Sound Blaster Compatible card in it, I think the card was made by Expertmedia, even if we had a Sound Blaster it's highly likely I wouldn't have known about this program anyway. I seem to remember using a program like this once, I believe it was calle Clyde the talking computer, it didn't have speech output and the computer I was using didn't have a sound card.
This program is such a big part of my childhood. The good Doctor is so messed up. X) I downloaded it recently - sound is really low-pitched and garbled, but the trip down memory lane was worth it.
As a kid, I always hated when he made the words bigger. X)
Does this works with DosBox? I can't believe that back then I was talking about my love life with a program lol!! Looking forward to do it again hahahahaah!!!
@1007709 - HAHA I woke up this morning thinking that exact same saying in my head for whatever reason and came on here looking for Dr. Sbaitso stuff to see if ppl even knew about it. Great childhood memories!
Actually, a really good emulator should be able to do it all, regardless of what your actual equipment is. But this was a pretty big issue during the changover from DOS to Win32 (actually from ISA soundcards to PCI soundcards, which was about the same time).
"I have a program of this but it has no sound. How do I get Sbaitso's voice? "
Short answer -- sound won't work in DOS programs on modern PCs.
Long answer -- actually, it will if you have the right equipment and setup. The easiest way is to get yourself an old ISA sound card. If your mobo has a SB-link connector, just run a line from it to your sound card (assuming it's compatible). Another factor is, of course, what type of DOS environment you're running (native, emulated, etc).
Memories!

I never saw that feature either.
And that includes an awful lot of getting the good doctor to say short, 4 letter words.

You probably need to run it under an emulator such as DOSBox.
remline 3 years ago
@remline No, just run it thru the command prompt type the command line. I have used it on XP, also on Windows 7!
MixerVM 1 year ago
@remline I tested it under Windows XP it DOES work in the MS-DOS emulation
