Personal Note: I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why the N.E.I., does not tell the truth about the proven effect of a minus on the natural eye, and why they say that ENTRY into myopia, "can NEVER be prevented". Is it that they don't want us to know that ANY minus, compounds a negative state, induced by ourselves with our "nose on page" for years? What is the matter with telling SCIENTIFIC truth? I say, tell it, and let the chips fall where they may. Truth is indeed bitter.
Ooh yes that happened to me. I was initially prescribed a minus lens for close work when I am in fact longsighted. I was in so much agony and opticians completely ignored my requests to try plus lenses (which they don't like to do cuz you can get these cheaply from a chemist)
@Blacksquareable It is indeed tragic. I think they have an OBLIGATION, when you are at 20/40, and -3/4 diopters, to VOLUNTEER information that the minus is an exacerbating agent. All they would have to do is to tell you this, that prevention is indeed "difficult" but wise. Then they would tell you to type, "MyopiaFree" on the internet, and read about prevention -- whether you "like it or not". But they "win" with their silence, and you loose. This is Don Rehm's complaint.
@Blacksquareable Thanks for your commentary. No they will not talk about plus-prevention for you. That is why Don's work is so valuable. The ODs are an arrogant disaster. If you want to read about this, go to sci. med. vision and make your own judgement about there non-existent "professional attitude. (There ARE ODs who support plus prevention for there own children. Never forget that.
We should all remember that science shows that "long-term" near produces a negative state for the natural eye. How do we know? When primates are in the wild -- their vision is excellent. Place these SAME primates in a cage for seven years, and they become very negative, from -1.6 to -5 diopters. There is no "cause of defect", but a very natural process. Kid with nose-on-book INDUCE that negative status.
I "gave up" on ODs. Now I just get my lenses from Zennioptical. I also confirm my visual acuity on my Snellen, and if I "need" glasses, I determine what I need and order them myself -- thus avoiding the OD completely. There seems to be no other way.
@cedarshrub You never wore them? You have no idea how magnificent your decision was. I made the mistake of wearing them because I was fooled into it by parents and it's the biggest regret that I have. I'm sure your eyesight would have gotten MUCH worse had you worn them. I'm about to go blind so I know.
Correction: Don's remarks reflect on majorit-opinion ODs. Second-opinion optometrists have the same judgment of the necessity of prevention (before that first minus lens). Otis
Amazing. The medical-optical industry screws us again. Why does "conventional wisdom" always seem to enslave us in a vicious cycle of dependence on the establishment, the maintainers of the status quo? Could it be because this fetish for marketable (patentable) technology keeps taking us farther and farther away from the natural lifestyle that the Creator intended?

Yup, and every step of tech "advancement" atrophies our ability to do what that technology does for us: death by convenience

@herbs814 I think the same goes with other commercial products like facial wash and shampoo.
