  • "Coming Up" is a very underated McCartney song. Steve Holley who is playing drums in this video is a great drummer & a great guy too.

  • much better than the studio (chipmunk sounding) version

  • This the version I really like, the good one, the other one it must be respected because of the artist.... but the live version is better.

  • This is so amazing from one of the greatest songwriters ever ! Sir paul you rock !

  • paul wrote by himself without side kick lennon: 1- let it be 2- the long and winding road 3- hey jude 4- lady madonna 5- hello goodbye 6- penny lane 7- paperback writer 8- michelle 9- yesterday 10- can't buy me love 11- all my loving most of the beatle big hits were written by paul and after 1965 lennon wrote NO hit songs for beatles he blew it when he dumped paul...he chose that loser not talent yoko in 1980 paul looked very young...lennon looked 15 years older then his age... etc.....

  • love it!!!

  • Great song!...but why would you want to befit people you can pour?

  • No puedo dejar de oir el sonido de ese bajo...

  • Why does the album version sound like it was song by Alvin and the Chipmunks?

    This one is much better....

  • this guy WAS the Beatles...not those other 3 clowns,Paul!

  • @Wayneman117 Hey, wait, whoa! Don't say that. John wrote a LOT of great songs back then. In fact most of the famous ones are John's.

  • @Raikaage John wrote a lot of great songs for the beatles, but Paul wrote their biggest hits. "Yesterday" "Let it be" "Hey Jude" "Penny Lane" "Get Back" were all #1 hits, and among the most known beatles songs ever, and they were all written by Paul with no help from John.

  • @Wayneman117 I would`t call the three others clowns.... John Lennon was essential for their early success. George wrote things like "Something" "While my guitar gently weeps" and "Here comes the sun" and Ringo`s steady beat and charisma was important for their music and image. They were all needed. The four beatles needed eachother. None of them did as well alone as they did when they were together as the beatles.

  • @Yellyist My understanding, back in the 60s (seeing that John,Ringo, and George were SOO bad musically) that when the other 3 left the recording studio, Paul would have to go in a redo everyone's part. Seeing Paul could play every instrument.

  • @Wayneman117 I think they were good enough. The Beatles were a tight band, and everybody could play their instruments well. John`s rythm guitar on "All my loving" is great. George`s solo on All my loving is pretty good too. Ringo`s drumming on "Rain" and "A day in the life" is excellent. Not to mention Johns songwriting ability. George became a great songwriter too. My favorite is Paul, but i think Paul needed John and the others to really shine. Pauls solo career proves my point.

  • @Wayneman117

LOL. you think John, Ringo and George were "SOO bad musically", yet you have KISS in your favorites. You're funny.

  • @Tobunshi well, actually KISS isn't very good either..thats just along time band I've kept up with as a kid...Side show.

  • @Wayneman117

Yeah, KISS sucks. The Beatles had some simple tunes, but that doesn't equal being "bad musically".

  • badass bass line....dayummmmm

  • music music yes

  • sounds like he's singing scummy knob

  • Ahhh amazing song and performance!! The music video is so cool too! :)

  • Nothing as cool as a left-handed bass player.

  • Coming Up - a great song played live. The studio version on McCartney is awful.

  • why paul never change?

  • Ha, even though it's 1979, you can see some early-'80's hair on some of the band members. :)

  • The bass he used for this concert is the Yamaha BB1200 bass.

  • To anyone who's in Chicago to see Sir. Paul McCartney play at Wrigley Field on 7/31/11 & 8/1/11. Have fun. I wish i was cause i'm working that night.

  • @yogafan6500

I was there on the 31st 15th row center left field, most incredible night of my life.

  • ah yes, done on MY birthday, the last offical performance by Wings...

  • Best version of the song ever, hands down.

  • i love love love this song....so up lifted

  • If I was trying to prove to someone that Paul did not die in 1966... i think I would show them this video... I am seeing the same guy that was at Shea Stadium 1965... lol

  • Everyone's moist about the bassline on here, but it's hardly the best; it's not even HIS best. Compare it to stuff like Klaus Voorman's playing on Whatever Gets You Thru the Night or most by John Entwistle, and it's nothing. Paul outdoes himself on bits like Silly Love Songs or Goodnight Tonight. This is a C- Bassline, at best.

  • It was a message to John much like "With A Little Luck". Rumor has it that the Beatles were to reunite sometime in late 1981 early 1982. The title and lyrics illustrate it all.

  • When did Paul write this song? I always thought it was 1980 and after Wings split... I didnt think it was during Wings time,

  • @Voxac100b Early '79

  • @Voxac100b this song is the last single from Wings, but the live version. The studio version is from McCartney II (1980),the third Paul McCartney's solo album, after McCartney (1970) and Ram (1971)

  • Okay, I am going to base buying a bass guitar on this song exclusively. What exactly is he using here?

  • @GonejaDash I think it's a Yamaha.

  • @GonejaDash Nah it looks more like the Fender Jazz Bass

  • @GonejaDash he is using his 1966 Fender Jazz Bass he got in 1968 while still with the Beatles

  • It's official: Paul McCartney is THE coolest guy on the planet.

  • This isn't the "live" version released as a b-side single in 1980. That version was recorded a month earlier in Glasgow, Scotland. This is from the film "The Concerts For Kampuchea".

  • and...by the way...AWESOME version...love it...what an amazing bass line OMG

  • Paul is a genius...awesome bass player, fantastic singer...THE BEST.

  • great song..best version...never gets old....and john loved it too...

  • I love Laurence Juber's work with Wings. (And his acoustic work now is brilliant.)

  • brings me back to my yout

  • Paul without John is a little

'poppy" . But he does have some great stuff including this song. I agree great bass line.

  • More of a Lennon man myself but this is rad

  • HAPPY 69th BIRTHDAY YOU GOOD LOOKING THANG YOU! I LOVE U FOREVER!!!

  • pour you mean poor

  • this guy knows how to rock the bass!

  • i am the biggest fan of this song in the world!

  • @MyDreamside If you are first, since you said it...I'M THE SECOND! ;-) wooo hooooooo! He's so adorable and animated while he's playing in this. I LOVE IT!!!

  • So much better than that kooky album version. They should have just gone into the studio and recorded it just like this video... live and powerful and rockin'.

  • @ZooRiot the studio version was recorded by paul solo. The whole McCartney II album was recorded, produced, and engineered by paul,so they couldn't put this song like this. It was meant to be like that. This version is very rythmic, soul, & disco, the other one is electronic disco. this one wouldn't fit in the album. But I understand you.I still like more the original, this one will get boring after a while, the other version will never get boring.Of course I mean on audio, this live vid is much better

  • @yourtwistedable Also, remeber, a live Wings version had already been released on The Concerts For Kampuchea album set in early 1980. So for McCartney II, Paul wanted to do something different. In one sense, the cut on McCartney II was a "cover" of a Wings song! BTW, the B-side of the single, the live version that U.S. radio played was recorded in Glasgow, not at the Concerts For Kampuchea (which was recorded in London).

  • @ZooRiot One of live versions got more airplay than the irritating studio version. It would've been nice if they played this on New Year's Eve with Paul belting out 'Coming Up, 1980'

  • Bong, bong, bong....that long neck bad arse bass! Wooooo YEAH!

  • "Anyway, would you like to hear a tune which is.. how are your bums doing, anyway?"

  • That's a bass guitar!

  • unreal bass playing and singing from Macca !! Fantastic stuff........love to get this whole show on DVD.....anyone got it ??

  • Love the groove on this one!

  • lINDA CAMCION gRANDE

  • LARGA VIDA A PAUL MCCARTNEY!!

  • Ahhh yo esa en el concierto del lunes.... fantástico Paul!

  • I'm just amazed how when he's talking he's got a soft voice, but when he sings this it's got rasp and PIZAZZ! I love it :D

  • paul at his best..great tune..band sounds hot...he's singing great....nice work here...

  • best perfomance ever!Even better than the studio,i think, not sure

  • great voice, great bass playing, great song vehicle to show them to from a single package. nothing like it.

  • One of the few performers that sound as good as in studio in a concert.

We ll be glad to welcome him live in Lima Peru next May.

  • It's a shame the official studio version of this song wasn't played like this. The McCartney II version was cool and charming, but sounded more like a demo. It would've been great if he recorded it with a band just like this!

  • i am the only one who love this song so much i was so down and this song helped me to stand on my feet again, every time i listen it i feel so great, the perfomance was perfect. The lyrics, the music, paul's voice everything amazes me.One day i learned that this song made lennon to return back on recording

  • @MyDreamside You are right, that John Lennon loved it.Listen to,I dont wanna face it,on You Tube,Johns last tracks ,he put the energy of Coming Up,into IDWFI. Try it out.

  • @plasticgazzaband yes i thought that to,i dont wanna face it is a great and underrated track

  • @MyDreamside What a great pair Lennon and McCartney were! To be fair to Paul, the door was open, but he might admitt, that Lennon saw through him,in 65,Yesterday,solo,Hey Jude,Solo,Let it Be,solo,Long and Winding road,Solo, and fighting for A sides.I read recently that Paul, accepted some guilt, but i believe that Yoko, got under his skin.I love both of them, and very much still appreciate Paul.

  • Holy meaty bass tone. So used to the Hofner.

  • paul is truly the best of the best. bass player. pricesless. he plays a priceless hofner.

  • this is shit- INFANT SORROW INFANT SORROW INFANT SORROW INFANT SORROW!!!

  • did juber really need to be awake for that?

  • he never gets a mention in the greatest bass players of all time but he must be up there !!

  • A year later John is leaving us

  • Hah viewer 202020

  • Fantastic voice, great bass line, definitely one of the best live versions of Coming Up.

  • It's funny, Paul didn't really start to show his age until the last few years.

  • This is ska isn`t it? :) God, I love songs with brass in it. Paul is my hero

  • これだけのベースラインを弾きながらフルシャウト。ありえない。

  • Isn't this song about pot?

  • This is a cool song. His voice is so cute live. "Cute" Whatever that means.

  • This is a cool song. His voice is so cute live. "Cute" I'm not sure what that means, but it's raspier than what I 'd think.

  • now there's a silly love song for ya! ;)

    and with a positive message!!

  • now there's a silly love song for ya! ;)

  • He is so sexy

  • @MichalFokt -- Yeah, I think John's death really took it out of him for a minute.... when Linda died too. But he looks great now and happy! Jumping around on stage with no water or break for 3 hour gigs at 68... He's absolutely amazing!

  • omg how much younger he looks here in comparison of beginning of 80´s...

  • Billboard's 526th #1 hit of the rock era. Macca did great here. God bless ya, Sir Paul.

  • Download the audio from this clip at soundnabber doht cohm.

  • How Talented this Man is!!....Amazing!......10/10

  • i wish i could see the live at glasglow version

  • LOVES

  • i used to have the "wings over america" album...yes an LP! b/c i AM that old...& loved it when MTV came out & wideo juekebox on hbo so i coud see the video for this & these live tapes...love you paul

  • To my taste, this is one of Paul's best live performances. It was the last time - at least that I can think of - he played the bass with such groove and cleverness. The live vocals are way better than in the studio version, and the song sounds overall better here than on the album. The bit at 3:19 is great and fits the song just fine - great bass playing throughout.

  • @YaraGChiara Your comment is just what i wanted to say! ;-) you're totally right man

  • Not the version that reached no. 1 in the USA, as someone said earlier. That was recorded in Glasgow, Scotland, as the "Kenny Dalglish" chant at the end of the song confirmed :) This is very like it, though!

  • the last better McCartney Years

  • thats what I call FUCKING BASS LINE

  • @MartimRockass And that's what I call FUCKING BASS PLAYER!

  • @MartimRockass I totally agree, shame this is the only way he performed this bassline on this song, compare with any other Macca perfomance and he don't play it the same. Shame, cause it kicks ass!

  • @JRGrange25 true. Lucky that we have this video as proof :)

  • Comment removed

  • @MartimRockass great idiot stupid!!! jajaajajajajaj

  • Paul's voice is just... awesome.

  • Many people complain that Paul's work post-Beatles sucks. Not really. It's good, but not as good as The Beatles, that's all.

  • Sore bums :) I think I'll call my behind "bums" now because Paul called them that :D

  • WHY WASN'T I BORN BEFORE?

  • @TheRasraffaelli You and me both

  • En mi opinion esta es una de las pocas canciones en que la version en vivo es superior a la de estudio !!!...yeah

  • The riff is borrowed from "Everybody's got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey "

IMHO "Monkey" is a far superior tune.

Coming up is a fabulous song. That's how good "Monkey" is .

You tube it if you've never heard it . It will blow your mind

  • @mlmr11 I think youre referring to the rhythm of the guitar part and not the riff. This song feels more like a Talking Heads song than anything the Beatles did.

  • @dannypurple1979 Great ear. Yes it's very Headish. I was referring to the guitar riff you're correct. The horns join in at points as well.

  • Ooh! I love this. The female vocalist singing the high 'coming up' bit is fantastic!

  • @TheLiamDude you mean linda mc cartney?

  • @TheLiamDude that was paul's wife linda i think..

  • I understand now that it's Laurence Juber.

  • That Looks like Tommy Evans of Badfinger playing guitar.

  • Lennon seen this - two hours later he was still singing it in his head anoyed and thinking i need to get back into making music again!

  • seen macca at the royal court in liverpool doing this brilliant

  • FEAKIN AMAZING HOW HE ROCKS THAT BASS

ONLY HE CAN ROCK OUT LIKE THAT

    "COMING UP!!!!"

  • Good Ole Sir Paul, playin Punk/New Wave, Bass Guitar Lines, ee didnt admit it then, but ee did later on, A Superb Piece. GRA. TOXTETH. LIVERPOOL.

  • give your bums quite a rub lol he rubbed his bum

  • @WowGurlXD what did he mean by that "give your bums a rub"??

  • @tonymtno tired from sitting on their asses; see "7th innning stretch"

  • @japasdi999 It's a Yamaha BB series looks weird see Paul with another bass diferent to Hofner :)

  • any body know what bass that is ?

  • Thanks for sharing this video - great sound and film work! "Coming Up" is one of my very favorites of Paul's solo hits. I played it all the time in 80/81 when it was a hit single. The day we stop singing about peace and love is a sad day because without we are left with emptiness.

  • Paul on top of his game.

  • sadly, no it didn't "come up".

  • Paul, I'm sure meant well with this song, but we tried to "stick with him" for thirty years, as he helped us into the peaceful, new loving world...and of course it never did vaguely, Come Up. And he's a billionaire now, and still singing his old "peace visionary" song almost ten years after 9/11. Paul, the flying saucer that was supposed to save us, never landed, get it?

  • Who that on keys? Edgar Winter

  • i admire any musician that can play bass and sing at the same time...pretty damn good!

  • is this the version used on the wingspan hits and history disc. because it sure sounds like it. anyways this version is waaaay better than the original

  • Probably the best version of this song I have heard... love it

  • Anyone else think Linda kinda looks like Edgar Winter in this video?

  • For some crazy reason, I only heard this song for the first time in my life last week...and I'm 30! There is something really wrong with that. This song is fantastic!!!

  • A concert intended to help "pour" people in Kampuchea? What, were they going to liquefy people outside of Kampuchea and "pour" them over the fence? lol Maybe they should just "pour" them some porridge, then they wouldn't be as "poor." Hehe :)

  • best of the best!

  • PAUL!!!

I am having with drawl from Charlotte show!!!!

  • Was this the last time Denny Laine played with Paul? Did Paul just kind of take him aside and tell him to get a life or something you know .like "wings is over so pack it in mate" cause they didn't work together again after that.

  • @FlamingoKicker Denny popped up on one or two of the tracks on Paul's Tug of War album. I'm sure he also had a bit part in that classic Macca film (not) Give My Regards to Broad Street but i may be talking pants there, ha ha.

    (David.)

  • anybody would be crazy not to stay around!!!!!! don't think anyone would turn that invention down. with his personality we would be duuuumb

  • I think I like the sound of this bass better than his hofner...I wish he would still use it...sounds amazing!

  • anybody know what model that bass is?

  • PAULIEEEEE!!!!!!!

  • This was the "B:" side of some 45rpm that I don't even remember because we were always jammin' THIS song!!

  • @DeeJayRoyalT "Coming Up" was actually the B-Side to "Coming Up" The A-Side was the original McCartney II studio version, and then B-Side was this live Wings version. In the U.S. they flipped it and played the B-Side, which went to #1.

  • @TheThrillington ahhh...well that explains why I couldn't remember the A-side. Yeah the B-Side live version was definitely the bomb!! Thanks for the clarification!

  • McCartney II is one of his BEST...Very personal, very at home, REAL...love it...

  • I know it's not him, but the guitar player sure looks a lot like Tom Evans from Badfinger.

  • Comment removed

  • At this point Paul had been performing live for around 20 years! Just think, he's going to tour again this summer!

  • He don't put anywhere near as much energy into his performances 30 years on. ...

  • Siiiií....!!!!

  • McCartney was not trying to "help poor people" but bring attention to the plight of displaced citizens.

It's like the concert he spear headed for the victims of the world trade center. He wasn't trying to help any "poor people." He was bringing attention to the situation

and was very successful both times. He a true humanitarian!

  • What a bassist! He's so amazing!

  • coming up way up all the way sir paul mccartney wee all love you here down in los angeles

  • Mad bass player, the Beatles would have been ordinary without him.

  • fucken A hes rockin that bass hell yea thats sick rite there

  • he said something about bums and shit..i didnt get what he meant by that?anyone?

  • Bass players are the coolest, a guitarists flight of fancy would sound empty were it not for the bassist holding it all together.

  • I love Paul, but I wish he still had the gruff in his voice like he does in this video today :(

  • @Dirschbag yeah me too!but chek the song 'nothing
