SPOILER: Each person wrote their object on the table which is a pressure sensing pad, (similar to an artist's drawing pad) under it. A stagehand then simply tells him each person's item through his (obvious) ear-piece. The rest is just schtick to make it appear that he's 'figuring' it out..
@topmotion it's possible, but I don't think this is the way derren does it. I think Derren can just read it off you (not psychic). He's done it a lot of times before in interview, in which the spectator never wrote anything
I forgot to add, even though Derren is really good at Q & A, it just totally blows away his long winded " Disclaimer ". The woman with the dress completely believes he has some psychic ability, she even got a little teary-eyed. Disclaimers are for the foaming-at-the-mouth Randi types. Young people watch his q & a..near the end, and you will learn some valuable lessons lol!
on the 20 queestions, he sent Holly back to mess with #5's head. he could've guessed hers, too, but he sent her away in order to mess with the other girl's head. She saw everyone else get picked off in groups, and she prob. assumed that she and holly would go together, but instead it was jsut her. that's intimidating, which prob makes her easier to work with. Like Darren said, if you miss on the last one, it looks a bit off.
Yes he does "force" more so influence people to think of things and also improvises as he goes. Being a practicer of his methods I would know. They do work. I'm of course not as good as he is yet. And NLP does work quite a bit of the time. Although Derren himself would claim that it isn't all that reliable and I would agree.
I'm sick of this double talk from people. Is it "all that reliable" or isn't it? The topic is this animal prediction. He wouldn't risk the airing of his show on a trick that wasn't "all that reliable". The trick is fake. This trick is the topic. Its not influencing people. He doesn't influence her to choose a mouse or any of the other people to choose an elephant. I too, use mentalism techniques to influence people, but NLP is bullshit. And this trick is just a standard magic trick.
Jeeze. Who kicked you in the balls when you were six? First of all, I'm going to tell you right now that I don't know exactly how he does every trick. But I do know some of his philosophy. From time to time, he DOES like the risk of not being 100% sure the trick is going to work perfectly. If you researched him well enough then you would know this. NLP is also used to determine if he is on the right track AFTER he has implanted a suggestion via anchoring or something. Magic? He rarely uses it.
The strict difference between magic and mentalism is for professional use only. He uses "magic" in every one of his stage tricks. The term "mentalism" is just to describe how he present it. He presents it as a psychological or mind reading effect which makes it "mentalism", but the methods he uses is magic. For instance, this very trick he utilizes "hot reading". Meaning he knows what the people wrote down through some kind of gimmickry. Most likely someone just looking in from the wings. Magic!
If you make the hole, and they watch it you may punch them.
Thats the basis. Different friend groups sometimes have extra rules, wuch give the "temped" the chances to counter the "Temper" (sorry dont really know the words ;-) )

@RockySeven7 It's AMAZING to see Derren do this impromptu. The Frost interview and the Jonathon Ross interviews come to mind.

I wonder why he couldn't do it with Holly.
CaptainFeigh 2 years ago
Hmm, he might have tried to force them to think of their word and perhaps Holly didn't use his word and he knew it. Just a theory. Stil amazing

@bryankelly agreed. this is a very common magic trick. easy to perform. but very powerful when done well. like this video for example.

@bryankelly Wow, someone sounds a little bitter. And what exactly is a "fake trick"?
Is there such thing as a "real" trick?
