  • I find it frustrating that people take things out of context. While I understand that the comments Matt made were almost racial, it was simply a reference to say that the communication barrier is difficult in an out-sourced environment.

No one can say they haven't experienced the frustrations of communicating through barriers of outsourced labor, it is simply the reality of our economy.

We should learn from Matt's experience, not challenge his wording. I believe that's all he intended.

  • I think it raises - yet again - the eternal problem betewen clients and designers. You don't pay a designer to put "what you have in mind" on paper, but to get his expertise on how to communicate your identity.

I like this creation, it indeed looks very cool. But I'm not familiar with your activity, and this logo doesn't tell me anything about it, nor about who you are, what are your principles, etc. There's more to a logo than just cool looks...

  • Yes, you get it! And in this case, you are right in that it doesn't tell much right now (primarily because this is a very stripped version of the logo). Also, the context here at YouTube is very broad, whereas the community I work in (online business education) would understand it a bit more. But yes, having a designer who could create my "vision" was key. Great comment!

  • If they are the best graphic designers in the world why wouldn't they and why shouldn't they want decent money for being very good at a highly skilled profession?

If you had $3000 to spend on a car, would you nip in to the local ferrari garage and waste their time for an hour or two?

  • I totally agree! The best designers should charge a lot. My point is that you sometimes get what you pay for. Many people, when starting out specifically, look for the "bargains" because they think they are the same as the premeire. In some cases this is true, but they are much harder to find. If you have the budget, you focus on creditials, word-of-mouth, recommendations...and last...price.

  • So, uh... just to recap: you have a low budget, yet you don't get an amazing logo design; most of these 'designers' are in "places like Brazil" (0:51) and so are bound to be terrible because they're smelly and foreign; and finally "most graphic designers" can't communicate with you (2:00)?

Some people might take offence to the cut of your jib, sir.

  • Communication, especially overseas is a huge hurdle when it comes to outsourcing. At no point did I mention that these people are terrible (and I take offense that you refer to them as smelly or foreign...especially since I am married to a person from overseas, or foreign, myself). Actually, I think that most of them are good, but there are so many channels (between then & the manager), my instructions are not understood.

  • *sigh* The inference was that you had made what could be construed as a casually racist remark. I appreciate that probably wasn't how it was intended, but that's certainly how it came out.

I'm not entirely sure how you could take offence to the term 'foreign', though: if they're from Brazil and you're American, then you're from two spearate countries. By the very definition of the word, you are foreigners in relation to each other.

  • I do understand what you are saying, though. It is not about "us" being better than "them", it is the number of barriers between the two of us that can cause headaches.

  • I'm floored.

  • so why don't you marry him.

  • You haven't got what you wanted for $250 - oh really?

    LOL.

  • That is really cool!
