Great video, but isn't this a violation of the "Sterile Cockpit" rule? Conversations are related to the approach and landing, but the pilot and F/O holding a camcorder during critical flight can't be considered essential to the operations of the aircraft.
@diggerHR Sterile cockpit rule refers to not allowing pilots to talk about non-essential things during the critical phases of the flight, recording a camcorder of the landing in cockpit is not an violation of the Sterile Cockpit Rule because recording isn't part of the Sterile Cockpit Rule.
@FSXTheGreat "No flight crewmember may engage in, nor may any pilot in command permit, any activity during a critical phase of flight which could distract any flight crewmember from the performance of his or her duties..." Since when is the pilot and co-pilot hand-holding a camcorder and passing it back and forth during a landing, not considered distracting during a critical phase of flight? That's my point. If the camcorder is taped to the dash, fine, but hand-holding it?????
Continental still flies that Air Micronesia route - Hawaii, Majuro, Kwajalein, Kosrae, Pohnpei, Chuuk, Guaam - west every other day and east every other day - no plane on Sunday.... used to stop at Johnston Islands til they shut it down... I love Majuro airport because you really do have ocean on right and lagoon on left - and good handicraft shops in the airport!!!
Nice landing on Majuro! Fun to see water on both sides, isn't it?
They collect the water to reuse it on the island. The only fresh water is what falls out of the sky.
Believe it or not, there are landings that are really tense in the Pacific -- like coming off the lagoon with about 10 feet of altitude and the runway starts five feet from the lagoon - and you'd better stop fast or you'll put it in the drink at the other end. What's life without death close behind?
@patcism I think Continental Air Micronesia still has this route. I would fly the route about once a year, from HNL to GUM through these islands, but in those days we would fly Honolulu to Johnston Atoll, but they closed that airport in 2005. Some other airlines fly down there now from Honolulu, but the best thing to do is check the routes from the Honolulu Airport.
That pilot is hot!!!!

@diggerHR. The sterile cockpit rules only apply to airline and charter flights (121 and 135 regs). This is a private flight.
