No Jazz is not one of the 'mainstream' (or whatever you want to call it) genres In Japan either, Pop and Rock dominates the japanese music-scene by far. Especially pop, in fact, and even stuff like Enka is more popular than Jazz is.

It has around the same popularity as it has in America if not less, but saying nobody listens to Jazz there is just lies : P.
