  • Why does newbies always bring th1s shit up? It is Verse Chorus Verse.

  • It uses the same rhythm and chords, but the lyrics are totally different and talk about different things. This is NOT an alternate version of Verse Chorus Verse. If it was, the I guess Old Age and Do Re Mi are too, because they use similar rhythm. But they are not, these are 4 different songs.

  • @RomeoYouMust This is a live version of Verse Chorus Verse - the melody, song structure and chord progressions are the same as the version that was recorded during the Nevermind sessions. The only difference is the lyrics in the chorus, which began with "The grass is greener over here / You're the fog that keeps it clear" in the unfinished Nevermind studio version...

  • @TestMeatDollSteak Verse Chorus Verse is also live... And the whole lyric is different, not only the chorus. Verse Chorus Verse starts "Neither side is sacred, no one wants to win". And of course, the names are different. I guess he would have called them the same if they were the same song. In my opinion, this song is not actually a song, the lyrics look like unfinished, and he used another song's music to give it an structure. I think it was merely a sketch. You can't say they're the same song

  • @RomeoYouMust They ARE the same song: same melody, same chord progression. Kurt was always re-vamping lyrics and/or improvising them during live performances, anyhow, so the lyrics themselves aren't important. Musically, this is the same song titled as Verse Chorus Verse in the "With The Lights Out" box set, which is the same song mistakenly called "In His Hands" by bootleggers, who didn't know the proper title of the song.

  • @TestMeatDollSteak Lyrics are as important as the guitar itself. I know Verse Chorus Verse, it's one of my favorites, but there's a reason this song is called In His Hands and Not Verse Chorus Verse, it comes in albums as In His Hands/In His Room. There's also another song that uses the same rhythm and chords than Old Age, but they are not the same song by the simple fact that they talk about total different things.

  • @RomeoYouMust The "albums" you're talking about are the Outcesticide CD's, no?? Nirvana never called this song "In His Hands", just like Token Eastern Song was never called "Born In A Junkyard", for example. They were titles made up by bootleggers, and most of the stuff on the Outcesticide series was bootlegged. You're basically making the argument that Pay To Play is a different song than Stay Away, for example, because the lyrics are different. Same song, early lyrics.

  • @TestMeatDollSteak Are you telling me that 90% of the song lyrics is the same in both songs as in Pay To Play? No, only 1 line is the same in In His Room and Verse Chorus Verse. There's no point of comparison. He just wanted to try the lyrics with that melody, doesn't mean they are the same song when the lyrics are totally different. Verse Chorus Verse talks about Kurt's parents divorce and his own relationship. In His Room talks about his depression and how he feels alone. It is NOT the same.

  • @RomeoYouMust *facepalm* Are you actually offering your own interpretation of the lyrics, most of which can barely be made out, as a reason to think they're different songs?? LOL. The lyrics don't matter - it's the exact same song, musically. Same chord progression, same structure, same vocal melody. Cobain changed the lyrics to many of his songs, and said time and time again that the music came 1st, lyrics 2nd. "In His Hands" is a name MADE UP by BOOTLEGGERS.

  • @TestMeatDollSteak If you or almost no one can interpret Kurt's lyrics, doesn't mean it's impossible or that they don't have meaning at all. For your information, Kurt dropped out of college. I'm not impressed if you already knew it, but for your information, he kept studying literature. Most of his lyrics are literature. Yes, he said for making songs, the music was first for him, but that doesn't mean the lyrics were not really important.

  • @RomeoYouMust Cobain never went to college. He dropped out of high school. Cobain himself said he wasn't very well read. The only song of Nirvana's based on a book, lyrically speaking, is Scentless Apprentice. You offered your own interpretation of the lyrics to this song, but you don't have any idea what Kurt was singing about, or what the song meant to him personally. You're only guessing, just like everybody else.

  • @TestMeatDollSteak My mistake, he did dropped out of high school. Ok mr. if you say he didn't care about lyrics, then, explain to me what the hell does If You Must talks about? He is basically singing how he writes his songs. And that ANYONE who speaks english could see it. And yes... I'm only guessing, truth is we will probably never know truthfully what he talked about in his songs.

  • @RomeoYouMust I wouldn't be so bold as to pretend to know for sure what Cobain was really trying to convey with any of his lyrics, really, let alone "If You Must". Especially considering Cobain claimed that most of his lyrics (especially on early Nirvana songs) were thrown together at the last minute. None of this changes the fact that "In His Hands" is name made up by bootleggers who didn't know any better, and that Kurt always called this song Verse Chorus Verse.

  • @TestMeatDollSteak To make my point: I could sing (Or he could have singed), Old Age' lyrics using Verse Chorus Verse' music, BUT IT WOULDN'T BE THE SAME SONG. Would you say In His Room and Verse Chorus Verse are different songs if he had used a different rhythm for it? Maybe he would have had, IF HE HAD FINISHED THE SONG. They lyric's aren't done.

  • @RomeoYouMust Cobain could have sung a page from the phone book, and it would still be the same song, provided the chord progression, song structure, and vocal melody were all the same. These lyrics "aren't done" because it's just an earlier version of the song (you can still hear the "taking medication" line, too). Cobain himself said lyrics weren't all that important to him, and he changed the lyrics around in plenty of his other songs. This is Verse Chorus Verse, like it or not.

  • @TestMeatDollSteak I think there's nothing left to be said. I disagree with you, but it is only my opinion. For me this song is another one, but even if I said/thought they are the same songs, it wouldn't change anything. So I guess we are just arguing in vain. Thanks for your opinions by the way. Have a nice day.

  • @RomeoYouMust Haha, I can see that I'm not going to be able to change your mind (and I already know for certain that I am right), so yeah, there's not much point to continuing this. Peace...

  • @TestMeatDollSteak Ohh mr. do you ever listen? Guess what... earlier, I listened to Sappy. Oh yes, I noticed something, it has the same intro as Verse Chorus Verse!! Amazing, I didn't know they where the same song as well! Btw, have you listened to Sad? What would you say it is? I mean, it has the Sappy' lyrics but the music is different... They are not the same song!! And Verse Chorus Verse, Sappy, and In His Hands are the same song. I guess you're right!

  • @RomeoYouMust Sarcasm is often hard to decipher through text, but I'm going to assume you were being facetious here. Changing the arrangements doesn't make it a different song, it's just a different version of the same song (see "New Wave Polly", for example). "Sad" is also a bootlegger title for a slow, contemplative version of Sappy that Cobain did. Verse Chorus Verse (the Nevermind outtake) is not Sappy. There was NO "In His Hands" - that was a bootlegger name for V.C.V. :)

  • @TestMeatDollSteak Then again, the lyric in this song looks unfinished, which makes me think he decided to try how it sounded with the Verse Chorus Verse' sound. Sorry for the double post.

  • verse chorus verse what everyone else is saying

  • What is this version from? I'm just curious. Heard a bunch of different versions of this many times. Don't remember this one.

  • In His Hands,Sappy,Verse Chorus Verse, this song has a lot of titles.also this is a sound check recording from either one of the Outcesticides or The Club bootleg i dont remember.

  • @NirvanaNerd364 nah sappy has way difrent lyrics and difrent chords in the chorus and sappy could have a solo but the verse is (chord wise) a speed up sappy

  • @scenscoff Id didnt say they were similar songs i was saying that this song had once been called Sappy but thanks for the explanation anyway i know ho to play both songs on guitar so i know what you're talking about.

  • @NirvanaNerd364

In his hands, sappy and Verse chorus verse are 3 diffrent songs.... sappy are the real early versse chorus verse version... verse chorus verse were the original name ,after I hate myself and wat t die was to much for GEFFEN REC. and it was changes to in utero during the latest recording of the album ....

  • @bobmorten well im pretty sure they threw the names around for each song.

  • @bobmorten No, wrong. This song is a live version of Verse Chorus Verse. This song was only called "In His Hands" by bootleggers that didn't know the actual title. Kurt also recorded several different versions of the song "Sappy" over the years, and he changed the title of THAT song to "Verse Chorus Verse" when it was released on the No Alternative AIDS benefit compilation.

  • every nirvana song is a masterpiece. can't find one i don't enjoy more than any otther song from any other band and time.

  • The other improve

  • One more thing-

"Wouldn't wanna fake it, but I don't mind" is equal to his suicide note where he states that his love for music and fame is gone, and he doesn't want to fake it.

  • @sigsigrighthere Agree. If you are interested, I think the whole song is about how he doesn't feel the love of the people around him, and how it slowly turns into a death wish. "See him dying, in his room" Is how he feels, dying alone. "He is coming, I don't care" He refers to his eventual suicide, he knew it would happen someday. Same thing with "You killed him, I don't care". Just my opinion, you can disagree with me, just don't start raging.

  • Given medications in a darkened room = heroin

Given medications in a lighted room = opiates prescribed by doctors

    I just wanted to clarify.

  • secret song teehee

  • when was this version recorded?

  • this reminds me a lot of my earlier teen years. I was an all around drug addict taking my mom's medications for years. One day it was too much and my mom found me the next day lying on my bed with foam coming out of my mouth.

  • @andrew186511 Cool.

  • @FooFighterFix oh yea....

  • Comment removed

  • the taking medications until my stomach's full is the better version imo. The grass i greenr over here etc

  • i think ill find some new Nirvana song but Kurt gave his songs 10 different titles >.>

  • We all know that Kurt was a good one for changing lyrics, but the guitaring and lyrics are way different from any other version of Verse Chorus Verse I have ever heard. Even Sirius radio plays the version that goes "And if you save yourself you will make him happy..." as VCV.

  • It was called In his hands by bootleggers but this changed from Verse Chorus Verse then sappy he felt this song was never complete *citation needed :P*

  • @ollsmells Its not Sappy.. Sappy is TOTALLY different.

  • @SuperMegabar I know.

  • Isnt this Verse Chorus Verse ?

  • how did you get this! O.o

  • The song IS called "Verse Chorus Verse". The lyrics to this are in his journals with "Verse Chorus Verse" written clearly on the top as the title. The lyrics in his journal are more representative of the box set version (we all know how Kurt changed his lyrics around), So we know that the song was definitely called "Verse Chorus Verse" at least at the time of the Nevermind sessions (that's when the box set version was recorded).

  • sounds like a live version of Verse Chorus Verse

  • It's an alternate version of Verse Chorus Verse alright, but I'd say PhoenixMacabre is right about the title.According to Wikipedia,Sappy was renamed Verse Chorus Verse at one point, but "it's title was shared by an earlier Nirvana song(Previously known by the bootlegger's name of 'In His Hands'),it is usually called 'Sappy' to avoid confusion."

Sounds accurate enough, but we all know what Wikipedia's like, don't we?

  • @LZJoZ no its accurate

  • For those posting that this is Verse Chorus Verse, please stop, your ignorance hurts my head. It makes all of the voices in my head scream to hunt you down and kill you all like dogs. This song is In His Hands.

  • @PhoenixMacabre No. Wrong. It's called V C V.

  • @PhoenixMacabre Only difference is the lyrics between the songs.

  • @PhoenixMacabre

so damn true... Verse chorus verse is another song ,a song with the best cobain solo EVER ;)

  • @PhoenixMacabre You are actually mistaken. "In His Hands" was an unofficial title given to this song by bootleggers who didn't know the proper title of the song. This song was always called Verse Chorus Verse by Kurt, and was recorded as Verse Chrous Verse during the Nevermind sessions. Nirvana also recorded a version of the song "Sappy" during the In Utero sessions, and Kurt changed the title of that song to Verse Chorus Verse for its release on the No Alternative CD.

  • It sounded like he was about 2 start playing Sliver before he began Verse Chorus Verse. It was like the beginning of Sliver if Krist's bassline was replaced by Kurt's guitar.

  • It sounded like he was about 2 start playing Sliver before he began Verse Chorus Verse.

  • sounds a lot like the rest of his songs. Goes up and down, up and down with him babbling.

  • Love ya Chris and Dave, I miss Kurt so much. He should still be here wheather he made any more music or not.

  • @joangoff Its Krist! :)

  • @AksaTheLol Oh , man I had never noticed . Thanks for the correction!

  • i had a band in high school during my freshman year and we played a bunch of nirvana songs. this was undoubtedly my favorite nirvana song to play. but ours was better.

  • You are mistaken :-)

  • no hes not its verse chorus verse ; /

  • No, he is mistaken.

Sappy is NOT Verse Chours Verse, In his Hands is.

  • oh yeah oops!

  • No problem. We all make mistakes :-)

  • @VictorRechnageL ahh ok =)

  • @darkangels17 Thanks for clearing that up for some of the idiots on this video. This version is usually referred to as in his hands and the other version (with different lyrics) is usually called Verse Chorus Verse , much like Stay away is to Pay to Play

  • @darkangels17 verse chorus verse is sappy.... not in his hands or in his room

  • @suicidesucks08 i know it is but generally this version is know as In His Hands or Verse Chorus Verse

  • @darkangels17

i think its verse chorus verse

  • @leichivanhell its the same music just different lyrics. Kurt did that a lot tho he would take some songs and just play with lyrics but still amazing

  • @darkangels17 verse chorus verse has diffrent words though doesnt it ?

  • @scenscoff yes it does.

  • thought so .................................

  • @darkangels17 Ya but the lyrics are kind of different.

  • @darkangels17 This is not Verse Chorus Verse.

  • Driven conversations, even I can read

Wouldn't want to fake it, and I'm tired of this dream

Taking medications, in the back of the room

Driven conversations, he died in June.

See the stab wounds in his hands

See him dying in his room

    He's dying in his room

    He's dying in his room

Heading for me, heading this way

He is coming, I don't care

  • @evanberg247 it dont says see him dying in his room,ir more like breed silence in his room

  • @evanberg247 tired of this scene* <--- perhaps? and "he's coming back again"

  • It's in his hands / verse chorus verse. this are just the early lyrics.

  • It's verse chorus verse

  • How did you get it? I want it!

  • @the5thfiend just search verse chorus verse that's the version that they recorded during the nevermind session
