  • hard to see in 240p

  • space is so odd

  • heaven is behind the orion,,thats why scince can't explore deeper..

  • I would love to see beetlegeuse go super nova in our life time...better than winning the lottery!

  • Space is pretty. I'm going to move there one day.

  • @1971SuperLead Well, you DO live there.

  • Beauty is learnt?? Certainly not! It is precision beyond mathematics. Humans can see beauty because of our spiritual involvement with creation. Denial as the dualistic opposite, is destruction and ugliness. Both are part of the dimension we live in, like life and death. A great image of the universe to compare with the nebula is above Athens, from google earth. It is like cancer... and there, the paradox, the need for further creation.

Have anybody seen human figures while examine this nebula?

  • @satanas237 WTF, You need help.

  • how bigs r nebula's btw?:/..

  • @nosafing1 I think the Orion Nebula is about 24 light years across. Pretty damn, big.

  • @nosafing1 Yep. 24. By comparison, the Milk Way and Solar System... are about 100,000 light years and 2 light years respectively.

  • You have to sse it .... you can have a look to the nebulosa just using a binocular .... it is like to see a wave of green water .... è una visione celestiale che ti lascia attonito, se hai avuto la fortuna di leggere e capire pagine come quelle scritte da Dante ... non puoi fare altro che piangere ...

  • Why do humans find things to be amazing?

  • because they are a lot smarter than you'll ever be.

  • Gee, why'd you go on the offensive? Don't like my question? How does it challenge you?

  • sorry but i'm used to speak with ignorants and retards, and i probably misunderstand the meaning of your question.. simple explanation is-human brain and mind are toxicated by the 'ciwilisation' but the conscious mind underneath is just begging for the answers, thats why people are curious etc.

  • I'm not sure that answers my question, Jerry.

  • You're not sure, so you think about it..

  • Because the nature is amazing especially Orion nebula, for centuries astronomers and philosophers were amazed by the universe trying to understand about what is out there, we still looking out there trying to understand the purpose of life.

  • But that is defining a term with the term itself. (i.e. Why do we find certain things amazing?... Because, they are amazing.)

Why do people find stars amazing is still the question?

  • your question is subjective, it does not suit to this context. But anyway, there could be so many answers according to each individual perceptions and cognition. Some people would be astonished, scared, amazed, terrified, and others don't mind.

Do you find it amazing and why?

  • Say I draw a picture of a nebula, and I do a good job. So good it looks like a photo. I then show it to someone who finds it amazing. How can they find that amazing when it is not even reality? They are finding the idea of a nebula amazing. But why is a nebula an amazing idea? It's just gas, and they've never experienced it first hand. Why isn't a blade of grass considered amazing? It is more complex.

I think it is the contrast of our more complex obtuse selves and simple untouchable elegance.

  • I think there are an affect and cognitive factors to determine the perception of the nebula. The Orion nebula has some spiritual sense, Egyptians considered as the soul of god Osiris and the pyramids were a mirror image of Orion belt. very much the same for babylonians.

  • @Thisisnotmyrealname8 No. A nebula is not just gas and dust. It´s a star formation place. People actually should find stars amazing :) Star life cycle is amazing! All chemical elements, including those in our bodies ... were formed inside stars (except hydrogen). We living creatures are... "ashes" of stars. :) That´s my personal definition of "amazing" ;)

  • But what I was saying is if you take a picture of a fictional star and show it to someone why would they find it amazing, if they indeed do? Like those spray paint pictures of non-existent star systems. I doubt that people like such pictures for their theoretical functionality or property, but like it for the beauty. So, stars are beautiful. But why? Why are the heavens so profound and pretty? Why do I think it myself? Because they are or because chemical impulses in my brain say they are?

  • Further, if the heavens are of themselves beautiful, why does a fabricated representation of one engender admiration? And if it is chemical impulses in my brain then what do those chemical impulses know about beauty? A star is considered to be more beautiful than a blade of grass, but why does my brain tell me that?

  • @Thisisnotmyrealname8 Amazing questions! :D Our neural mechanisms, genetically determined, were all provided by evolution. The environment selected all those mutations... Eg. compassion is an instinct that was developed under tribal conditions for sharing goods (tribal survival). Plus, we categorize everything as a means of segmenting knowledge for ease in understanding. Sun, light... means "life".

  • @HannahZepplg But if that were the case it would mean that the admiration for the beauty of a nebula would have to be realized in "lower" life forms, too. We can see instincts in animals, but admiration for beauty? We don't see that, so one would have to say that it is most likely only the human conscience that sees the heavens are beautiful - a "recent" development. A nebula was not seen in a photograph until recently in history, so my question is, What makes a brain see a nebula as beautiful?

  • @Thisisnotmyrealname8 I think that the concept of beauty is a learned behavior. But beauty is one of the most relative concept. Highly context dependent. Of course, influenced by culture, experience and learning, but... everything we find beautiful can be traceable to the structure and function of our brain? Someone said that beauty exists not in things but "in the mind that contemplates them."

  • @Thisisnotmyrealname8 The neural basis for appreciating beauty? As i said, I dont know. :) I think that science has not found an answer for that.. yet.

  • @Thisisnotmyrealname8 There´s no life without sunlight. :D Simple as that. Then, our brain probably primatively associated the sun's light to life ... then ... to beauty. Well, I do not know. :) Or maybe is just the "beauty" of the mistery. The human brain is a fascinating organ. But we have a limited capacity for processing information. :)

  • @Thisisnotmyrealname8 Every atom of iron within our blood was once inside of a star, my friend. We are made of stardust.. :) This means... that we are star stuff... admiring stars. :)

  • That was beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

  • Amazing.

  • Xibalba, the Mayan underworld right there.

  • I must agree with the buddy downhere!

Why don´t you just enjoy the science?!

Take this less important debates to other stupid people who believe in the same shit as you.

  • you should all shut the fuck up with your religion shit , just watch the damn video and take the info in your dumb head , it's an astronomy video , debate on that istead of jesus, allah , judas and pals ...

  • PrayerisLoveinAction, I just finished writing a long, long letter to you and was going to mail it to your 'send message' thing on your youtube page but, after somewhere like 2 hours of writing, it won't let me unless you accept me as a friend. Would you please trust me and do that? I put a lot of work into it and pretty-well bared my soul to you. I'd appreciate it. I AM trustworthy.

  • questn123505-you sound like a really damaged person here. You are obviously not to intelligent either. You can tell by what you are saying here.

  • Orion Nebula had spiritual meaning to the ancient people; the pyramid of Egypt was built with this concern. This might be a passage to afterlife.

  • This is where the Kingdom of God will come through to rescue us! It keeps getting brighter, and astronomers dont know why......but I do!!! God is getting ready to come. The angels are mounting up!Come soon Lord Jesus!

  • Clearly, you are an idiot...it remains for us normal folk to figure out what kind...actually, now that I think about it, it doesn't really matter.

  • zideffil-your brain is on parade here. We can all see here by your choice of words just how unintelligent you are and you are the one hiding. You need to get yourself some education! Then get a life!

  • intheshadowof, I must say that I don't usually use words like pigfuck, but sometimes I get so frustrated by the nievete of Christians...My dad and all his family were ruined by a Christian-based religion and I also wasted many years believing in the impossible and now that I have learned the truth after much searching, it leaves a bad taste in my mouh. I have a high IQ and stupidity grates on my nerves. That Christians have the audacity to argue the age of the earth with learned men of science..

  • zideffil-you may have problems with one person or persons that does mean that everybody is that person or ppl. You need to know that Prayer is a good friend of mine. and she is just coming to Christ after having had someone all most take her life. So you never know who you are saying these things to. Most ppl that call themselves christian are liars. Those morons on TV are money hungry wolfs in sheep clothing. Trust me my friend, there are times that so called christians really try my patience.

  • intheshadowof, I do sincerely apologise. You are right - I obviously don't know the stories of the people I was saying things to and I sometimes get carried away, thinking about things that happened in MY life done by people who have no bearing on yours or other's lives. That prayerislove had a terrible thing happen to her, I am TRULY sorry. What bothers me are the 'way out there fundamentalists who speak in tongues and roll around on the church floor and the awful 'lady' who runs Jesus Camp.

  • intheshadow, I went to church as a kid and believed up until around 4 years ago, not in all of it, but I at least believed that Jesus existed and although I can't make myself believe in a virgin birth, I at least believed that he was somehow divine and fooled myself into believing that he saved my life a number of times. Through meticulous research and hrs. & hrs. of reading, I found out that it was all in my mind. Once I learned the truth, everything that had always bothered me fell into place.

  • What is the truth?

  • Amen!

  • Prayerisloveinaction, with a name like that, you are clearly a lost soul. I would like to correct you and say that love in action is goddamned-well getting off of one's ass and doing something for someone instead of wasting one's time talking to an invisible space-god-man where it has been proven without any doubt, that 'prayer' to 'him' gives the exact same results as praying to one's dink.

  • Amazing. It's almost like someone designed it.

  • Web: Someone did. :)

  • Yeah, nature.

  • All these moments. Are like tears in time.

  • much life in Orion sirs..

  • I wanna travell to Orion like the replicant of Blade Runner!!!

  • Truly incredible!

  • HE LOOKS JUST LIKE DR. EVIL!

  • Dr D. Vider!!!
