i use a 130 for bass... Pretty nice. Doesn't have a ton of headroom but it'll definetly keep pace with drummer and guitar. Love the tone won't get rid of it.
i had one of these monsters bout 8 or 9 yrs ago,,the 4 /12 cab and head,,kinda wish i still had it.. one thing for sure it was loud as hell...it really sounded good when i got it serviced and tubes replaced. .
This is a cool looking amp, great sounds coming from it aswell. How well do these amps fare when used with pedals? I'm considering getting one of these MM's, but since I often use pedals, I'd like to make sure the amp responds to them better than say, a fender twin reverb.
@1971SuperLead At one time I'd have disagreed with you. A certain 1979 Peavey Classic VT 212 changed my mindset, LOL. Still like all-tubers, but it's hard to beat the reliability and consistency of the old hybrids such as the MM and Peaveys of this era...and you CAN get great tone from them.
@jimdep1 thanks for your kind words, sir. but it's not my fault if he plays just lousy. i watched your stones video and it's really nice. keep going, and i'lll rate anyone's performance the way he or she deserves it. i know what i'm talkin about, cause i've been a well-booked pro player for quite some time. alright? bye.
I bought a 1978 hd 130 a couple of months ago. It was one of those garage finds! I payed 300 for the head and the matching full stack of 18s'. I play my Fender "P" bass out of it. It is loud and the quality is great.
my god this thing is loud. i tried one out at a local store and i think im going to buy it. 130 watts all tube. the amount of clean headroom is insane.
I actually don,t have any experience with this amp bass wise, but i think it was designed as a bass amp, and I haven't yet seen anything this amp isn't good at. The amp is not this compressed and thin in person

I know this is a great sounded rig. It's too bad the sound quality on the vid doesn't do it justice.

I am a firm believer in solid state preamps sections and tube output sections.

@bowslap Sure, just ask the guitarists of Heart. They were tone gods and they played Music Mans. HD-130s even!

hows the headroom on this? can you get real loud and maintain a nice clean tone?

Worst playing ever here on Youtube ... well, almost. Sorry, but this is so awful ... I wouldn't dare putting such a vid online, really.

I have had mine since '78. I had id slightly beefed by Chuck Martin (the same guy that Cliff Burton used for amp and guitar stuff).
This amp is extraordinarily soulful in sound and very punchy. Effects do it even more justice. I will never depart with mine. Rock on ....\m/

The "distortion" on the clip, is it the amp or just a bad mic thats crunches the sound?

bad mic

This amp is both for Bass and Guitar right?
Do you have any experience with this amp for the bassguitar? I'm thinking of getting one with the MM 212 RH cab. Can you give any advice on this?
peules 3 years ago
I use my hd-130 with an rh212 cab and it works great with sweet tone. any volume past 5 gets muddy though.
