It's funny 'cause it goes on too long...then it's not funny 'cause it goes on WAY too long...then it's funny again because holy crap, it's STILL going on....
Masters of this sort of thing: The writers of Family Guy.
@wordhurler I can see your point. During the Charlie Sheen Roast, they made fun of Seth's repeating things over &over again in Family Guy; but to me and many, this is what makes it so funny. Recall Peter in one episode hurting his shin &he doesn't stop saying owe for sev minutes; then same thing happens to Lois in another episode, & then again in the Star Wars version but one of the battle-bots (name?) did the same thing. The repetition made it hilarious. The fact that it does on & on is funny!
As U notice, most people like it. This is Y Family Guy is so successful, they do a lot of repetition which increases humor, but to those w/lack of patience; might find it annoying. I don't know if u watch FG, but recall scene where Peter strikes his knee & says oww for sev mins, then a separate episode, same thing happens to Lois, then another Stewy, than a Star Wars battle machine does same thing. The repetition is funny & judging by success of FG, I'd say more people would like this than not.
@WingThaiJ This is not Family Guy. Yes, it's funny on Family Guy, but it's not funny here. Comedy has timing. The timing of this bit depends on Norton interrupting quickly.
@fjccommish I know and while the timing is right to be funny here, I would like to cut the middle part and hook the part where his head flips back and repeat that over and over again. I did this many many years ago, I'd like to do all of these edits over again with better quality video.
@AndrewOdom No, Not real fans of the show! Real fans love to see his cartoonish mannerisms repeated over and over again. If I had time, I'd probably tighten up the parts and make his head sway back and forth repeatedly and at a faster pace.
@AndrewOdom you dont' know Gleason! He would LOVE it.. I would like the chance to re-edit it though so I can just have his head flapping back and forth repeatedly and make it look smooth... AstringOPoloponies above is a true fan and as a true fan.. he loves it, as do most who watch this. I know I could make it better and preferably longer if I had the time
@AndrewOdom I'm with you on this one, Andy. I've been a fan of The Honeymooners for fifty years and even had the great honor to talk to Gleason once. And believe me, he and Carney and the rest don't need any help from ill-concieved video editing. This clip is a shame.
@gjm1953 U R A minority. Additionally, it's a different way to enjoy him as he was a living cartoon character. I'm almost ashamed to have a fellow honeymooner fan such as yourself be part of the honeymooner fan club with such short sightedness.
@WingThaiJ "Short sightedness"??? Gleason is acknowledged as on of this country's true comic geniuses. Your are not. On the memorable occasion when I got to meet The Great One, I asked him why The Honeymooners was still popular so many years after it was made. He answered, "Because it's funny." Simple and true. I stand by my first assessment. This clip is a shame.
Gary, sorry, but I don't consider u a genuine fan if u can't see the humor in the character of his movements, & facial expressions, etc.U think you're a true fan cause u met him in person, huh? LOLPretty funny! U don't like it, that's your prerogative, most people like it 'cause they have a true sense of humor & they like to watch his facial expressions repeated over&over again, hence the feedback I've gotten.I didn't want to be mean, but u do sound rather idiotic for even sayg something like this
@geogodley actually I'd like to edit it again and keep the middle part running over and over again to make it really look like he's having a seizure as whenaman says.
If you haven't noticed people are laughing at the way it is. You don't need to know what the joke is, what is funny is just watching him repeat the same thing over&over again. Besides funny jokes, what made Family Guy such a success was 'repetition' & drawing things out. Seth McFarline realized this & as a result it's a smash hit. Look how long Peter Griffin says owe when he hurt his knee, repetition; look how long they draw out memory sequences. Just sit back & watch Jackie with his funny face
The enjoyment of this clip is to just watch Ralph, watch his facial expressions, listen to his voice. This is what is emphasized. Watching him in this fashion means that in this instance, there is no need to know the joke. You can laugh hysterically at just watching and listening to him; he was a living cartoon character.
Get in-tune with Family Guy; they too learned that repetition adds to the humor. His facial expressions and sound is what is funny, it doesn't matter why he was saying it. Repetition is Great!
"Norton...I've been watching you! And I know that you've been watching me too, you watch me Norton. Norton my friend, how would you, like to fuck me up the ass?!" - Eddie Murphy, 1983.
It's funny 'cause it goes on too long...then it's not funny 'cause it goes on WAY too long...then it's funny again because holy crap, it's STILL going on....

Yes, they ruined a classic clip. Why repeat it like that? How annoying.
Many people here don't know the original. Jackie Gleason would hate it as I do.
