  • that was rather rude when you put a crying baby in the last.

  • @luckylyra827 have you never heard of the Incarnation? The outrageous idea that God would step into this world and engage with it - or do you just have a sense of humour failure?

  • @simonrundell I know the all about the Incarnation, and I know that the crying baby was supposed to be funny but I didn't find it funny because the cry of the baby is just annoying. and it's somewhat disrespectful too. I don't have a failure in my sense of humor, thank you. I just find the crying baby...freaky. that's all. :P

  • if jesus wasnt relatedto joseph how is he blood related to king david

  • why would his geneology be traced this way when jesus wouldnt be related to any of theses people? shouldnt it have been traced through mary? joseph didnt concieve him right?

  • In Judaic culture, adoption is the same as blood relations, hence Paul's insistence that we have become heirs of Christ through the cross. In Hebrew understanding (for whom this Gospel was written) it would be important to establish his place within a traditional geneology which establishes his temporal claims to the throne of David. It's all about culture.

  • okie doke. So blood relation isnt important to them? did they list anywhere in the bible his genalogy through mary? but then again if it is divine it doesnt really have to make sense. this seems like another traditional male supremacy type thing. like all things traced through or having to do with the man/father.

  • We should be careful about applying our modern understanding, sensibilies & culture to 1st Century Palestine, where Patriarchy was a given. But not today. The Gospels are about the people of the time trying to make sense of the Incarnation: God amongst us,& how he fitted in to their world view. The Gospels are contextual & we should draw from them, but if we unthinkingly slap them into the 21st Century some things won't fit. Its cool: God is bigger than all this. Hope this helps. Fr. S

  • I really (really!) like the narration, I would like to create this as well, for YouTube. One question however, what is the background music?? I want to use that as well!

  • Actually the geneaology of Jesus is in Luke 3

  • ...as well. For me, the key genealogy is John 1:1

  • OK. I came across this because I noticed in Matthew 1:1-17, it gives the 'genealogy of Christ' BUT Joseph is not the father of Jesus so how can it be his genealogy?

  • St Matthew wrote his Gospel for a Jewish audience, and his first concern was to establish Jesus as the rightful heir of the throne of David - to establish temporal as well as spiritual authority. At that time, adoption (which is what Joseph had done) was as strong a tie as biological parenthood, so the claim to Jesus' geneology was seen as legitimate, and thus identify Jesus as the Messiah of the Jewish People (as well as of the whole world). Hope this helps. Fr. S

  • Get your hands on a circa. 1611 Bible. You will find that there are no "J's" in it. He does not have a pagan name. His name is Yahshua. And the Hebrew word for "virgin" translated in that passage means---"young maiden" not, "virgin" as in-one that is sexually "pure". Read the beginning of Matthew ...Yoshif & Mariam were married. In Hebrew customs, men and women were betrothed 1st (had a marriage contract) before, sex to consumate the marriage. Bad booty call that's all! "All have sinned and ..."

  • all have sined except hayzues son of the almighty came to earth as a man to walk as us yet live apart then die for all mankinds sins who cares if there is a j or not or if mary was a virgin she was impregnated by the great i am whether she was a virgin or not dont really signify god chooses who he chooses to do his will abraham werent no saint when god made his covenant with him but there it is that old cove hezekiah was a proud king but he beleived in god humbled himself and the assyrians fell
