I think since you have to reserve seats, the crews paperwork shows all the stops they will make, regular or not. In the past, the station agent would go outside with a green and a white flag and wave them to signal for the train to stop, hence the name flag stop.
A few surfliners have been hanging around in Chicago recently

How do flag stops work? Do you have to call Amtrak?

My bad Beech Grove I keep thinking Ohio for some reason. Thats quite a sweet catch I've seen a few Suurfliners before on both 3 & 4.
