The deal with the main event is that Tito couldn't rematch Evans due to contract negotiations. They had to replace him with Bisping late, and the UFC's rules for a main event are-1)it has to be for a title, or 2)it has to be for #1 contender or 3) it has to be an exciting grudge match. They had to pick the second option for this.

tito vs. belfort doesnt really either
nor chuck vs. jardine or shogun vs. forrest
it can be done without it being for the title, #1 contender or grudge match

Thats hust what Dana says, not me. Also, the rules may only apply to the modern shows now that the UFC has hit it big. I don't think they could afford to be too picky a couple of yeas ago. Plus Chuck/Jardine was plan B, a few weeks prior it was Chuck/Wandy.
