I love this collection! I wish I was there to see it live cuz the reactions seem very appealing and attractive. The main thing I love about Dries Van Noten is his use of the unusual and tranform it into something beautiful. I mean many designers do this but THIS is my point of the uniqueness of the strange and he managed to tranform this image into clothing. Absolutely beautiful!
The colors are beautiful, but if there's one thing I found challenging, it's how pale the girls looked in those saturated colors. How those colors play off each other as well as how they play off skin color is striking.
Dries Van Noten is phenomenal, he has incredible taste and sensibility. His influences, over the past two seasons alone, range from Pol Bury to Francis Bacon and show his intellectual artistry. Who can forget his 50th show on the chandelier-lit dinner table?
what are you talking about? 80s is only something we see because we are humans and human brains connect to something that we see we recognize.
i see these season collections and i dont see 80s. i see the future. futuristic clothes. but people all say 80s because they actually lived in it and the colors/shapes remind them of it.
it's almost like seeing someone who reminds you of someone else.
Looking at the accumulation of collections this season, though, there is a HUGE 80s reference in the big shoulders, bright colours. The designers even mention the connection themselves...
i dont think so. i work in the cliothing industry and when people go to theorize a collection, we dont go in thinking "let's do 1980s" we just do it and when people come to see the show, they refer to the 80s. in this video, the designer never ever states the 80s as his influence. only the guests refer to it.
Well there's no way we can prove that Dries actually thought of the 80's when he made this collection BUT Fall '09 overall has had it's proper share 80s..... not mentioning the amazing raw furs, strong knight/gladiator , glam rockers and thigh high boots. I don't really mind those because it hasn't been as repetetive as these 80s shoulder pads blahdablahdahblah I think I'm sick of it because of the somewhat recent neon nu-rave movement.
I agree totally! I'm really sick and tired of 80's refs. It's like they've beating in are heads for a few seasons now. Love the prints too. In fact that's the only thing I liked.
he is so awesome!

At first I hated it but after 2-3 times watching it you get the idea. The color palette is fantastic and disturbing at the same time.
