  • This is Sensationally Exquisite! I Didn't even know about Lee Wiley! I'm glad I found out about her Today! She's Wonderful! =) Lovely Woman.

  • Many fine versions of songs have seen the verse left out, mainly because it lengthens the recording time, which during the thirties and forties was a concern - I like this version second to Sinatra's 1944 version - which also leaves out the verse.

  • really nice...

  • I hadn't noticed!! Even the Sinatra version from the Capitol catalog from the 1950's uses the verse. This one does not. And you are so right, the verse is the "set-up" for the shorus, and at times the verse really sells the song, like this one, also another song"Street of Dreams" comes to mind, the verse gives the true meaning of that song as well. Thank you for pointing the Verse/Chorus relationship out - its not complete with out it. Tim :-)

  • When a composer writes an introduction to a song, I don't care who you are, you cheat me when you leave it out. That even

goes for Judy Garland who never sang the

one for OVER THE RAINBOW, and even

Kate Smith who never sang did it for GOD BLESS AMERICA!

  • This is delightful ! A really fine rendition of this great song.

Thank you so much for sharing.

  • Belo!

  • E.A. Swan's only real hit. The guy who got the "B" Side of any record w/this on the "A" Side should be very grateful, Royalty wise

  • Somewhat different sounding, but always no less than great! Kind of like imitating Billie Holliday! Brava! TY.

  • Yes, I thought that at first also but from what I hear Billie idolized Miss Wiley. I was reading up on Lee Wiley because I found her voice to be among the most beautiful things I've ever heard and Lee Wiley's performance of a few Gershwin songs had a large impact on Billie Holiday but Lee just wasn't as marketable. It's a shame but at least both of their voices are still accessable, I just bought a few vinyl albums of both and I was delighted.

  • godmerryolsen- Thank you for the info. I firmly believe that knowledge is power, and you have added a little more to my arsenal.Best wishes.

  • Her beautiful jazzy voice was a whole orchestra in itself! WONDEFUL!

  • Lee Wiley once more is impressive in this utterly sad song.

  • My "Dancing Pantofle" haven't recovered from the "Smutne Tango" and now they are sobbing uncontrollably.

Beautiful but SO very sad! :((

  • Very "smoky" version of this blues song. Good old Town Hall: used to go there for relatively cheap concerts. I think it's still there.

  • Oh yes, I looove the album ON THE AIR, what a voice Lee had, she could sing live without a single mistake!!! I love her, my idol!!
