@troikagirl Yes, the piano sounds soo much nicer to carry with one hand, tune it up in a minute and sit on ones lap to play. Comparing the piano to the guitar makes about as much sence.
@kofianonym - yes I always knew that these pieces would be beautifully translated to the guitar. Williams has showed me the way here. His clean, clear, not-overly-romantic playing that caters to Satie so well. I wonder what it would sound like completely internalized by him.
me encanta, john, pero hay un grupo de cuatro guitarras llamado arsis que toca entre otras la cavatina que te mueres de lo bien que lo haces recomiendo que lo veais un saludo
there are not many guitar versions of Gnosienne 2 on youtube, so cherish this one. I think this master captures the atmosphere perfectly. Somehow the guitar gives this piece a sense of solitude that is fitting for the composition.
@kofianonym Well said... The sense of solitude you speak of must surley have permiated Saties work - in that he was so unappreciated in his time. Ah, that old chestnut. The lonely genius, left to navigate the world of creation alone - judged harshley by peers who failed to recognise his wonderful grasp of this beautiful gift we call music.
This doesn't feel like Satire's piano piece.... Because it's on a guitar you bleeding twerps, of course it sounds different, the brightness of the classical guitar pretty much destroys the eerie sound of the piano in this piece and makes it more lively... it's still awesome
In these contemplative pieces by Erik Satie John Williams demonstrates yet again that the guitar can be the most eloquent and expressive of instruments.
Totally great!

I know Williams is a gifted player, but the piano sounds much nicer than the guitar.

@Gigzfin i have heard guitars and mandolins, and brass istruments, especially the french horn, that sounded nicer than pianos. don't be so defeatist

I am fascinated with how that guitar responds.. you really get a sense for the subtle differences in Williams' technique/force of hand.

Bullshit; Parkening makes Satie's music work quite well.
