I think that your disc not your ps i have this happen in BO all the time but worse no textures load up and when they do it looks like its smudged or just alot of blue squares but R2 GoW3 Mw2 Mw1 bioshock 1&2 all work fine .
well the only way your ps3 could overheat is because you play too fucking much on it, ive had mine for about 3 years now and it has NEVER had problems - guide to prevent your ps3 from breaking down - dont play shit loads on it
Your going to experience the "Yellow light of death" shortly...mine did same...see ylod fix by gilksy, it fixed mine (6 yr old 60 gb) only $10 for artic silver 5 @ Radio Shack and a heat gun. No problems now ,working great 4 months running...

Under the ps3 where the harddrive is on the oval front is a rubber gromet.
Remove it there is a screw remove this then slide it up it comes off to reveal housing get a hoover then repeat cleaning process this is all about heat transfer but you all new that.
just like anything that gets hot and has heatsinks and fans, ps3,360,pc... you should always once in a while clean it, easiest way is just to (while the console is turned off) use you're vacuum cleaner on all of the vents for a few seconds each vent so then even a ps3 like my original fat bought in 2006 will never overheat :D
Mine did the same thing. 60GB model as well. I put a fan next to it on full blast and that helped a little. I ended up just upgrading to a Slim model.

@UnratedVerzion I bought a new hDD for it. You also need an external hard drive to. You can google search how to upgrade your hdd for a ps3 on youtube.
did you try replaceing the old thermal compound with mx-2 or equivalent,the thermal paste that comes already on the 60gb ps3's processors is really cheap
Here is my personal fave. Don't ever buy a PS3 who was previously owned by a smoker. The tar and smoke ruin the internals and the cooling will never be the same again.
People are funny.. If your PS3 does not have enough space around it to cool off then guess what.. IT WONT! All you have to do is clean out the dust on a monthly or bi-monthly basis with computer air cleaner, give it plenty of space to circulate the air (at least 6 inches on all sides) and if you care like I do about my PS3 investment then go out and buy a room fan, turn it on high and point it at the front of your PS3(where you put the game in).. this will help all of the heat rise out the top..

have you tried using an aircan to blow out dust, if you havent been blowing the dust off from the inside it wont cool as efficiently as it supposed to, if you dont know what im talking about, open your computer side panel and take a look inside, clean out the dust before you get ylod
cuz ppl dnt kno how to use the intercoolers when i use mine it leaves it so cold its like brand new the intercooler is for when u done play as in when its off u put it on and it suks everything out mines never even warm mines always like a brick
return it and ask them to replace it with a new one... better yet, after you get the new one get the slim which is twice the memory of that... and only for 300 Dollars!(not really cheap but for a ps3, that's kinda a bargain xD)
and GPU's on a console are integrated, which makes them more likely to overheat and die, i've gone through a few computers with integrated chips and all of them died (the chips) playing WoW.
i use a usb fan that u just plug in at the front where the controller plugs in and aim it at the front not the back it makes a difference one of the easier way to cool it
That is EXACTLY what happens to mine. Textures in GTA IV glitching...eventually locking up completely. Tried hitting all vents with some compressed air...didn't work. I'm checking all the forums right now for a solution....please reply here though if anyone finds one.
take it out of the locked cabinet, vaccum up the piles of dust surrounding it, set room temperature belo 90 degrees F. Thats the only way I see a ps3 overheating.
ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS CLEAN YOUR PS3 once every 3-5 weeks and if you have it on the floor then pick it up and make it stand on its side dont put it in small spaces to... just try and keep dust away from the ps3

People are funny.. If your PS3 does not have enough space around it to cool off then guess what.. IT WONT! All you have to do is clean out the dust on a monthly or bi-monthly basis with computer air cleaner, give it plenty of space to circulate the air (at least 6 inches on all sides) and if you care like I do about my PS3 investment then go out and buy a room fan, turn it on high and point it at the front of your PS3(where you put the game in).. this will help all of the heat rise out the top..

@idiotjake427 Really, do you think I give a shit if you own some psedo-repair shop? I didn't claim I was any expert, but I know how to take care of my things, that's why all my consoles from the 3rd gen to this one still work. Unless your room is clean as hell, a fan WILL blow dust into the console and then you have to worry about the fan being clean too, otherwise it will be blowing dust by itself, your advice is faulty and reckless, stick it up your ass and find a new profession ASAP, asshole.

have you tried using an aircan to blow out dust, if you havent been blowing the dust off from the inside it wont cool as efficiently as it supposed to, if you dont know what im talking about, open your computer side panel and take a look inside, clean out the dust before you get ylod

and GPU's on a console are integrated, which makes them more likely to overheat and die, i've gone through a few computers with integrated chips and all of them died (the chips) playing WoW.

That is EXACTLY what happens to mine. Textures in GTA IV glitching...eventually locking up completely. Tried hitting all vents with some compressed air...didn't work. I'm checking all the forums right now for a solution....please reply here though if anyone finds one.

take it out of the locked cabinet, vaccum up the piles of dust surrounding it, set room temperature belo 90 degrees F. Thats the only way I see a ps3 overheating.

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS CLEAN YOUR PS3 once every 3-5 weeks and if you have it on the floor then pick it up and make it stand on its side dont put it in small spaces to... just try and keep dust away from the ps3

did u clean the vents b4 u put in the intercooler? doesnt the enter cooler just keep your ps3 cooler but doesnt prevent dust? so maybe ur intercooler is working but the dust still remains in there or somethine

dude i just noticed my ps3 in the back where the fans are where the hdI is. i put a thermometer in the ports to to check the temperature and it reached 120 degrees is that normal ??????? and it shut off on me once and i only had it for 7 months

i think consals should make a external part for your system that allows you to get real videocards and use them but this would only be used for the people that really want to see some fps i remember on metal gear solid 4 at some part you will see the fps goto low to high (20-35) and this jump can mean life or death

1 time i was playing my ps3 at a sleepover with my friends, it was on for like 20 hours none stop with only 1 hour of rest (we didnt sleep), it just got really hot but it didnt overheat, but still scared the shit out of me, thats why im getting a nyko intercooler even if it sucks ass, i dont wanna loose my baby

i dont think those flickers and graphic oddities are caused by the ps3, play a little less and u will start to see a difference. lol im just kiddin! thats why i only play couple of hours straight, then let it cool back down to normal temp.
