I can respect Steve Howe, as one of the orig. composers, but Trevor Rabin just takes this and runs with it! He is so much more entertaining than Howe. Yes changed with the times, with acoustic riffs and lyrics about nature & space in the 70s, then 80s was more electric guitar with lyrics about people and relationships. Jon Anderson, tho, can never be replaced... A real band for the ages... Asia is great, too, tho. Kudos to Howe..
9 yrs old with both of my parents (hard core fans of the band) seeing my, by then, already favourite band. They now admit, I was the one who didn't let them give up their love for their fav music act. Like many other older fans, they have thought this wasn't Yes anymore. But I played those 80's and 90's Yes albums to the max, and they got to love them again as much as I loved their past line ups.
Wish i was alive for this performance. I just learned that classic 3 chord outro on guitar (you know, that flanger riff before the guy busts a nut with that solo) and i can't get enough of that finely tuned brilliant shiiiiiiiiiit, man...For those interested in the chords: 10 x 9 o 8 10, slide down to fourth position, then first
Nice video. Caught this tour at the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago, IL on March 8th, 1984. One of top 5 shows I have ever seen out the 400+ concerts I've been to. The lead singer for Berlin was ill, so they opened with 2 classic Bugs Bunny cartoons--the Mad Scientist and the Matador. Thanks for posting so I can relieve those memories!
I never thought I'd ever see a rock classic that could rival "Xanadu" Live, by RUSH ...but this version of Starship Trooper is right up there alongside it!!!
I saw them at Pine Knob MI on their 9012 tour. Wasnt the biggest YES fan. That changed that night. One of the best concerts I have ever seen. This song was an encore. It was as good as any thing I have seen from Floyd and I love P.F. The whole original band. Spot on target, harmony, light show and sound. To reproduce the effects live? I would of told you it couldn't of been done. Oh to be able to go back to that night I would give my right nut.
@pithor Michael Tsarion is the worlds premier conspiracy researcher/lecturer/author. Leo Zagami, Jordan Maxwell and Alexandre Dumas pere are highly informative as well. p.s. Melting Euphoria is similar to Ozric Tentacles and Gong.
@pithor Alexandre Dumas pere wrote over 400 historical novels exposing world tyranny(Roman Catholic Empire). He was born near Paris in 1802 and 'coincidentally' in 1902 the Society of Gesu(Jesuits) were expelled from France for the 3rd and last time. The Society of Jesu(Jesuits) have been expelled from 83 countries, city states and cities and their pope is ARAMIS AND HE IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE COUNT OF MONTE CHRISTO(GENERAL OF THE JESUITS).
Jon's make-up was a definite low-point. Looks like his false eyelashes got stuck together at 2:33. And what's with the white curly mic. lead? Not a good look. Lucky the music's excellent.
This is for me, the most mind blowing, phenomenal, epic live version of S.T. ever, and Trevor breathes new vibrant exuberant life into it and makes it his own. It just leaves you breathless it's so immense. What a once in a lifetime performance on every level..the decending lights, the amazing stage & lasers, the Trevor & the entire band on 1000 percent cylinders feeding off the energy of the audience. Beyond epic, what an olympian tour de force of musical virtuosity, showmanship & craft.
@arweiss100 "In the agreement to rescue Rome [i.e., the Roman Catholic Church's hierarchy] from the predicament of losing its world control to Protestantism, and to preserve the spiritual and temporal supremacy which the popes [had] 'usurped' during the Middle Ages, Rome now 'sold' the [Roman Catholic] Church to the Society of Jesus [i.e., the Jesuits]; in essence the popes surrendered themselves into their hands."
@arweiss100 "Above all I have learned from the Jesuits. And so did Lenin too, as far as I recall. The world has never known anything quite so splendid as the hierarchical structure of the [Roman] Catholic Church. There were quite a few things I simply appropriated from the Jesuits for the use of the [Nazi] Party.
My very favorite live performance of "Starship Trooper". This performance by the band is phenomenal..and especially by Trevor..whose solos, (especially from 8:46 on) are just breathtaking & awe inspiring in his sublime artistry, fire, & virtuosity!
@arweiss100 I completely agree. I saw this concert on TV not long after it was filmed. I recorded it on VCR many years later loaned the tape to a mate, who lost it. Ive been waiting years for someone to post it, so whoever you are, thank you :) And I think the Rabin solo is way better here than the Edmonton one! There is something absolutey gut wrenching and searing about the tone coming out of his hands! Just wish the sound quality was better and also the mix around Tony Kaye's astounding work.
1:56 just astounding when Trevor plays the frets & sounds just beautiful. I also like the Edmonton version almost as much, but this version is so incredibly dynamic, the showmanship and virtuosity on Trevor's part & also Chris..and the literal frenzy that Trevor & the band put the audience in. 12:25 Trevor really plays up to the crowd, twirling his gtr. while playing, 12:45 Trevor's & Chris's phenomenal duo with Jon egging on the crowd, who at 13:16 raise a banner "Say Yes to Yes"! Spectacular!
Thanks for upload this video. It was my first big concert I visited in the age of 19 years. I remember how I stood with open mouth like hypnotized at the end of this song, when Trevor Rabin played his Solo and the overhead lights descended down.... never forget!
It seems that Kaye must have had some sort of glitch with his synth processor, causing the wrong "finale" notes from 11:39 to 11:50.
Squire got more bass in this version of Wurm than on the 9012live video version, which was filmed three months later in Edmonton.
The laser lights are an interesting effect. These were gone by the time the show returned to the US, the gimmick being the descent of overhead lighting rig to tilt and reveal the 9012live logo.
they stretch the ending far longer than they retain their tension and Rabin is more like a guitarist for van halen, except less original.

Pine Knob, Clarkston, MI
I was at that concert as well... had 15th row and this tune with The Wurm was outstanding.
Best concert ever.
Also seen Pat Metheny during that time. Both groups fantastic.
Made it to 12 Yes concerts which ended on 2004. Anderson gone, band is now dead.
