That is one brave man putting his right arm in the business end of the machine. A split second lapse of concentration and he'd be getting a free amputation.
definitely not OSHA approved. Horrible unsafe machine in every possible respect. Flywheels with no guards and a little boy nearby. Good job Darwin award nominee!
I love your fathers woodsplitter, and to everyone who thinks it so dangerous. this thing is a whole lot safer than all the idiots who text on a cell phone while driving.
take a look. it doesn't come close enough to the wedge to catch your arm. but why don't you open up the side or downstream to make it more efficient. less effort than reaching over and into? I've thot of doing the same thing, but not enough ambition, I guess.
Hi all, Clarence was my father. The video was done in 1988. Last November at the age of 86 he passed away and he had both of his hands and arms. He was quite the inventor. I hope you all enjoyed the video.
that things going to get you eventually. maybe not today or tomorrow, but it will. as soon as a piece gets crooked or any one of a million things... your foot may slip- anything, and your right hand and/or arm is gone forever.
that is the best wood splitter i have ever seen i might change the wedge design a bit but only a twit would leave his hands in there long enought to get them cut off
it could work to cull the idoits of the world and split wood nice job
I admire your ingenuity clarence with doing with what you have, but that rig would be better sold for scrap and use what you can get for a start on a decent splitter. Not having someone close enough to keep that child out of harms way just gives me the shivers. they can move so quickly and they are so curious.
Clarence's splitter is safe compared to this one. Total disregard for the childs safety watching. And you are one dumb sob to put your hands and arms in the way of that wedge. Looks like some inbred contraption being operated by an inbred.
An accident waiting to happen!! I love people developing and using lateral thinking, but you have got to be as safe as you can. I have seen accidents on much safer machinery that this. Please get out the cutting gear and consign this to history.
I'll wager Clarence is now known as Armless Clarence! The scary part is waiting to see if that little kid was going to walk up and poke his hand in the spinning spoked wheel, or the open flat belt. That thing would be written up in every OSHA book in the world as the most dangerous piece of equipment ever put together by a fool with a total disregard for life and limb.
i am not saying to not use the machine but it needs to be respected i like the drive option i wouldnt use it but that is from my past exp with farm machinery but please be safe with it
I watched a good friend of the family get his hand ripped off in a chopper wagon pto shaft when i was little that is not a fun thing to see clarence may never get hurt but some day someone will slip up and it will all be over
Are you fucking idiots???? All machines are scary if you don't know how to use them even cars for petes sake!! All you have to do with this machine is keep your hands on the back side of the blade when the press begins to come back.
Are you not paying attention?? You can clearly see that the press never touches the blade, it only comes to about 3 inches from the blade, I feel leaving just enough room for a wrist, and if not enough, just room enough that it doesn't slice it off, maybe only crushes it. You can see ol'Clarence isn't scared!!
God bless !!!!

It is more effective than an axe. But your hands are more effective than stumps. This parallels using your finger to locate a hitch pin.

The most dangerous part is that little kid watching the moving machine. He may decide to stick his hand into that large moving wheel.
spitgalore 3 years ago
I just dont like the way you have to reach down into it.Besides that though, theres enough room where you *might* not get your arm cleaved off.
Most of you nitwits crying that this thing is dangerous just don't have the brains to operate it.
And I like this one alot better than the video response of "worlds fastest log splitter".
heliarche 3 years ago
Either add some safety feature to it so theres no chance of losing a limb or probably should just bury this thing when they bury Clarence.
Bradwick1 3 years ago 2
clarence clarence never lost his parents but as for his arms they were lost on the farm. Even a super splitter has 6 inches of rest dumbass
