@MrPmd1 you're wrongwe will not your country full of ignorant racist, Texas, Nuevo Mexico, Arizona and California are ours by right. We just want what is ours from the beginning. And if you want to talk about the Alamo. best take first a history book and study (if you can read and do not have white trash behind someone writing for you) because your comment are out of place, without objectivity and a enormous lack of knowledge. And leave me alone f*cking N@zi
It is important to note that this is only celebrated in the center of the country. In the south they don't celebrate it and certainly not here in the north.
@BottleoFFireworks7 oh really thats funny bcuz my boss is from ecuador and he was askin me about dia de los muertos and he even speak a dialect and he said that he thought that was crazy what we mexican do bcuz they dnt belive in nothing like that i asked him if they do sumthing similar cuz i thought everybody did but he said no and im not even lying 4real
Actually if u go farther back, it started from the Aztecs and they celebrated due to believing the dead will have rebirth. The Catholics did not believe in rebirth, and they (Catholics) were trying to convert Aztecs into Catholicism and changed Dias de los Muertos to Day of the Saints or Souls. The Aztecs would go and clean the loved ones plots and place favorite foods of the loved one that has past to offer to them and wait for the rebirth. Now it has changed so much and peeps just party
but, "this isn´t a Festival" like the title says...this isnt a party day... is a Saint Day for the Mexican Catholic comunity, in this day, the fabullous culture of towns around México is present to remember to all loved people died.
@rossaryto people take it as a festival because your CELEBRATING life because of a dead family member or friend whatever it is, people are used to funerals which brings tears to remember the dead. This is such an amazing tradition though, i would love to take part and celebrate life with all these amazing people and experience the wonderful artwork Dia de los muertos has to offer.
I bet all of those Drug Cartels and gangs don't celebrate this Day since they are the Ones doing ALL the killings down there and contributing all the innocent persons to death!
@MrPmd1 my god you´re seriously dumb. believe me, i lived in the US, and it´s true, it has a lot of things we Mexicans still don´t have. but the people there are stupid, racist, egocentric, and are trapped by stereotypes that only makes them more pathetic. People here in Mexico are warm, kind and embrace who they are, we don't waste our time pretending to be something we are not just because publicity tells us we have to be that way. this tradition is very beautiful, its a celebration of life
@MrPmd1 and im not sayin that other cultures dnt do similar things but they definitely dnt have a holiday like el dia de los muertos even the spanish ppl tried to stop and abolish day of the dead but they just couldnt thats gonna be our holiday 4 eva no matter what ppl like u say yall look so stupid tryn to take every tradition we have and say that is from sum otha culture lol day of tha dead is a very mexican holiday and we got a lot of respect 4 it so dnt fuck with it!!

The Loved Ones really do come back!..when i was 10..my grandmother built a shrine for her father...she had tons of chocolates in a big bowl for him....i wanted a piece for myself and my grandma told me they were for him and i couldnt get any until he was done...well i didnt listen and i grabbed 1 anyways...as soon as i started opening it, it slipped out of my hand and fell to the floor...that was my great grandpa that took it from my hand! The mexican tradition says that the souls of the dead familiars come to our realm on those days to go back to their former home as visitors. The living leave food and drinks to the dead in the altars, since the dead are close familiars or friends the altars are set inside the house in a common area. After eating and resting in the house, the dead will return to their respective realm.
The big difference with the celtic festival is that these spirits are not harmful.

Response to jmwgoss: Speak English? Really? Is your last name 'Eagle-feather" or "Running-bear"? I didn't think so. Unless it is, you are an immigrant too! Shut your uneduacated mouth.
I wish I was spanish. They're holidays are so cool and so is their language. My favorite holiday is day of the dead. I wish we had holidays to honor the dead...
You don't have to be spanish to celebrate the day of the dead. It's an open holiday were everyone is welcomed to honor and remember their loved ones. Plus you must have halloween, which is the english equivalent.
Please research your data because Halloween and day of the dead are two completely different things. The English equivalent would be all saints day which in America falls on November 1
I do know the "data" Your misinformed. The Day of The Dead is not the same as All Saints day. Your thinking about Day of The Innocents. Which are not the same holidays. They just happen to be held in the same date and with similar traditions. (Example of Spanish trying to convert) Day of The Dead and Halloween share more similarities but are celebrated in different form. It's understandable to make that mistake because in the US holiday's are more materialistic.
Hi, Im mexican, well you are right: the day of the dead is not the same that All Saints Day, both is not the same that the Day of the Inocents, the first is at November 2 and is to adorate the adults souls, the All Saints is at November 1 is obviously for all souls, at October 31 is other cellebration for the children´s soul, and at Otober 17 is for the persons that dead murdered, the Day of the Innocents is tHE dECEMBER 28 and is a day in wich the people spend jokes
with the phrase inocente palomita que te dejaste engañar, well I wait that the information help you, forget me for the bad english, I'm learning, and I apreciate that persons of other country are interestng for the costumes of my country that sadly we are loosing
Thank you for this comment, it makes me proud to acknowledge that I am Mexican and I most definitely love my culture. Hell, who says you can't celebrate it with us...?
Exactly!!! There is no one saying we can't celebrate the tradition together. Everyone is more then welcome. But if there is someone saying no.. forget you. haha
Como dices que heres Mexicano, i estando serca de nuestra selebracion. Que te la pases bien en el Dia de los Muertos.
i hate how new generation are forgetting their past, i mean, al that chucky stuff and pumpkins is not original from day of the dead, it is froma halloween, and i don't have nothing against hallowen, but it's totally diferent and it has nothing to do with the meaning of that date
@forcepe17 fuck you it's not originated from holloween you dumb ass holloween is a more perverted version of an ancient celebration to celebrate their ancestors but hollowen celebrates the evil souls in some ways. and pumpkin were made in the americas like land of vida said
@heartless982 Ok, i think people should learn to read before offendig others. what i meant is that people wearing costumes of chucky or zombis or whatever are not original FROM THE TRADITIONAL DAY OF THE DEAD here in Mexico, i don't know what you understood but i'm really proud to be mexican and to celebrate these beautiful tradition, which is totaly diferent from Halloween
@heartless982; Oh! WTF??? Did YOU cuss out your Teachers in School like that whenever they made the attempt to correct your stupid ignorant ass on your lame pathetic Spelling Boo-Boos??? Well, heartless982. FUUUUUUUUUUUU#K YOU !!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Glittergem1 2 years ago 8
You don't have to be spanish to celebrate the day of the dead. It's an open holiday were everyone is welcomed to honor and remember their loved ones. Plus you must have halloween, which is the english equivalent.
moidixmois1 2 years ago 6
Please research your data because Halloween and day of the dead are two completely different things. The English equivalent would be all saints day which in America falls on November 1
amira7997 2 years ago
I do know the "data" Your misinformed. The Day of The Dead is not the same as All Saints day. Your thinking about Day of The Innocents. Which are not the same holidays. They just happen to be held in the same date and with similar traditions. (Example of Spanish trying to convert) Day of The Dead and Halloween share more similarities but are celebrated in different form. It's understandable to make that mistake because in the US holiday's are more materialistic.

Hi, Im mexican, well you are right: the day of the dead is not the same that All Saints Day, both is not the same that the Day of the Inocents, the first is at November 2 and is to adorate the adults souls, the All Saints is at November 1 is obviously for all souls, at October 31 is other cellebration for the children´s soul, and at Otober 17 is for the persons that dead murdered, the Day of the Innocents is tHE dECEMBER 28 and is a day in wich the people spend jokes

i hate how new generation are forgetting their past, i mean, al that chucky stuff and pumpkins is not original from day of the dead, it is froma halloween, and i don't have nothing against hallowen, but it's totally diferent and it has nothing to do with the meaning of that date
forcepe17 2 years ago 8
@forcepe17 The pumpkin was first domesticated in the Americas.
landovida 10 months ago
@forcepe17 fuck you it's not originated from holloween you dumb ass holloween is a more perverted version of an ancient celebration to celebrate their ancestors but hollowen celebrates the evil souls in some ways. and pumpkin were made in the americas like land of vida said
heartless982 2 months ago
@heartless982 Ok, i think people should learn to read before offendig others. what i meant is that people wearing costumes of chucky or zombis or whatever are not original FROM THE TRADITIONAL DAY OF THE DEAD here in Mexico, i don't know what you understood but i'm really proud to be mexican and to celebrate these beautiful tradition, which is totaly diferent from Halloween
forcepe17 2 months ago

Humble yourself and you will understand this ceremony. I find that many white people who talk alot of shit are scared to die and afraid to live.
