wait, i saw that the start-finish line in this old video is just after the hairpin! but i was speaking about the part of circuit between the ACTUAL start-finish line and the hairpin... more or less it seems different, in this video seems faster than actual circuit... or no?
Yes, Stefan Johansson who was his team mate in Ligier in 1988 said the car that year was the worst he had driven by far. He included it in the Motorsport magazine monthly articly "worst car I ever drove", by all kinds of drivers.
Sadly it made Arnoux disillusioned and he retired from F1 as the driver with the most amount of pole positions and never champion. 18 of them.
In 1982 he often outdrove Prost himself. Had Renault kept him for 1983...
@McLarenMercedes If you think he probably could have easily won the world championship in 1982 if was not for so many mechanical problems. He was the fastest driver in many races.
@McLarenMercedes Rene could have been world champion with a bit of luck. He is still remembered as being a great driver to watch and a very fast driver
Balls of steel indeed. A great era for F1.

isn0t it quite different from actual montreal circuit?

Look well: in that time the start-finish line and the pits were after the hairpin and now the rear side of the circuit is quicker.

Really beatiful lap! This was the "real Arnoux", not the ghost of himself He was from 1987 to 1989....

remember that the car he was driving in 87 to 89 was useless, he had no chance to compete
