contd - my best friend has schizophrenia yet is the sanest person I know. She is a dedicated mother yet at one point was a danger to herself and kids before she was properly treated for her condition. I do recall her telling me about voices telling her to do bad things. This is a real feature of psychotic episodes brought on by severe depression when a person has a schizophrenic disposition.

I said that if the authorities were aware (and they were) that she suffered from schizophrenia then she should have been monitored for her safety and that of others. And yes I do think that schizophrenic people should be monitored on a weekly bases and assessed to see if they are safe to raise a child and sticking to their medication.

This is terribly sad story but clearly this women had some sort of massive psychotic breakdown.
People can not control severe mental illness and if she had severe mental problem prior to this she should have been monitored or not allowed to care for the child herself.
There is a big difference in the U.K. - a women here killed two of her children and was not even prosecuted just placed indefinitely in a medical facility.

I said that if the authorities were aware (and they were) that she suffered from schizophrenia then she should have been monitored for her safety and that of others. And yes I do think that schizophrenic people should be monitored on a weekly bases and assessed to see if they are safe to raise a child and sticking to their medication.
And I find it barbaric that anyone would consider executing or even imprisoning the mentally ill.
