@rush4ever1 I don't know because I have never had my car dyno'd. I would say that it is minimal though because I did not do a re-tune. AEM's website gives you the projected HP gains with or without a re-tune. It also depends on a lot of other variables such as other upgrades you may have done. I chose this kit because it did not require a tuner, I liked the looks and I liked that it was a dry filter kit. I'm very satisfied with it.
K&N has a similar kit and it installs pretty much the same way. K&N's website gives you the installation instructions and a lot of other information on their products.
Every CAI I have seen requires a re-tune. The engines "Spanish Oak" computer sys. can make adjustments on its on to accommodate for small changes, but the addition of a CAI will usually through off the tune of the engine. One of the main purposes of a CAI is to enlarge the diameter of the inlet tube for greater air flow. Unless you go to a larger dia. inlet, you are wasting you time.
Now you've seen one that doesn't. This video shows how relatively simple the AEM Brute Force CAI kit is to install. This is not a smoke and mirrors video. It is what it is and I did not retune the engine and it did not trip the PCM. I'm well aware that I CAN retune the PCM for better performance. This is just an install video for the product I chose to add. Visit AEM's website and see for yourself that a retune IS NOT MANDATORY for installation.
I've heard that K&N CAI for the Mustang requires no retuning. But.... what's the point? You really aren't realizing your potential without a retune to accompany the cai. By the way, i wasn't like dissin you or anything... I was just adding my random thoughts here :)
If the mass air flow sensor housing changes dia., it MUST be re-tuned. Even if the housing size is the same, it still needs re-tuning to adjust the air/fuel mixture. Unless you go to a larger size housing on the intake, you will not p/u much in the way of power. Even with a throttle body spacer that kit w/o a tune would only p/u 5-10whp tops. A larger housing, custom tune, and throttle body spacer would p/u about 30-35whp and with 93+oct fuel up to 45whp. depending on the dia. of the housing.
This AEM kit will not trip the computer. The instructions state that engine flashing is not required. I even hooked up my OBDII code reader afterwards and received no error codes. It has performed flawlessly from day one.
thanks for this vid i have the same exact mustang and i had just bought a cold air kit.. now i can install it myself.. i just need to get a supercharger and thats all

did your install require a tune?

@nascar2w No, installing this kit without a re-tune will not trip your pcm. But you will not get the maximum HP gain without a retune.

That installation should have tripped his computer, didn't see him install any mass air calibrater

I am happy with my aem as well. Installed on my 06gt over a year ago and have had no issues.

Have you noticed a difference with any power gains... or is the air induction just a deeper tone??
