The first part of the dance is based on actual moves that I witnessed and recorded in Egypt of the Ghawazee Dancers. The second part is a creative interpretation of the Tet. No Ghawazee did not use skirts. The costuming is an adaptation of Orientale Paintings of Ghawazee Dancers. Instead of skirts, they used strips of fabric or shorter skirts over longer ones. In later years they wore full beledi dresses with long beaded fringe all over the dress.
Dancing with skirts is as old as Belly Dance. We can take liberties can't we.
