i remember seein this one too!!! it seems like this wattamack, and nantovision guys have got TONS of old school sesame street videos! how u upload them and from where? u got the Old School Sesame Street dvds???
For our buddy Gus. He's a hardworking cow dog (Border Collie)too. His whole world revolves around working the cows. No kidding. If he doesn't, he will come in the house sulking til the next day. Love him so much.
Wow! I am tickled pink to find this clip. I saw it on Sesame Street only one time when my son was little; he is 31 now. I must have been destined to eventually own a dog because I never forgot it. I was mighty lonesome after my son left home. But, then, I got my first dog and I was so happy, I got a second one! I'd sing this to myself while I waited for my two golden retrievers to bring back the toys I threw for them in the park, one happy owner and . . . TWO! hard workin' dogs.
I catch myself singing this tune every now and then and my teenage kids look at me like I've lost my mind! They are like where in the heck did you get that song? I tell ya, the younger generation just don't know what they missed back in the day..LOL
I LOVE THIS!! I first heard it at work. I work with a handicapt lady and we watch "sing, hoot, and howl" like all the time. its always in my head. IMA HARD WORKING DOG!
When you said "from the 1980s," II have this on Old School Volume 2, and the date is 1976-1979. So do you mean that you got the clip from an old recording from 1980s?
I noticed that one of the suggestions presented to me on the right-hand side of my screen is this in full-version. I plan on watching it next. Maybe that is the one from 1976-79. This could be a shortened version from the 80's.
This is a memorable song, with many applications to one's own life. I remember it from decades ago -- thank you so much for finding it and posting it. I thought I remembered that the dog said, "I even heard there was such a thing as a LAP dog" -- have I rewritten history or was there possibly a longer version with another verse?
Im glad to see I am not the only one in this world who still remembers this song from the long long ago. I can not wait to listen to it with my kids. Thanks for posing it. Im a dog, Im a working dog, Im a hard working dog. Timeless and Priceless
watched this with my daughter, now 25 yrs. remember and love it. thank you sesame street you are always awesome! thanks waccama! i've sung this in my head forever! what talent these guys have!
my very favorite part is when he jumps into the back of the pickup..clears the bumper, the tail gate..and gets to his spot, before his Dad gets the truck door open...what a dog.
@ranchroper1974 - That's my favorite part, too! I loved watching this with my kids when they were little and like everyone else, it's stayed with me...
I saw this as a kid, about twenty...maybe twenty-five years ago, and never, ever forgot it. The song, the dog, the words, the herding...I sort of expected to cry when I finally saw it, because I'm a softy...but mostly I was just proud to have remembered it so clearly. What a hard workin' dog.
I remember that my Grandmother used to love this video. She grew up on a farm. Her favorite part was when the dog leaps into the back of the pick up. Thanks for posting this. Miss you Grandma. :o)
i never tire of this one! i've been singing this song for what, 20-some years? since my 28-yr-old was little, anyway! since wayyyyyy before the internet and youtube---what would we do without the internet?!!! i've been telling my (now 82-yr-old) mom about this clip for years, so i can't wait to show it to her!!
Can't tell you what a smile this brought to my face!! Never thought I'd see this again, one that is burned into the recesses of my mind from childhood!! Thanks for posting :)
I've been looking for this as a clip for ages. The version I remember had a labrador retriever swimming around in a pool if my memory serves me right. Anyone else remember this? I'd love to see the other versions posted. Hard to believe how much this song stuck with me.
I remember this..was shown well into the 80s, maybe even early 90s. BUT..from what I have learned, this originally aired in Dec. 1975..making it cool vintage Sesame!
I remember an episode where a clip of Madeline Kahn appeared right after this song. She said, "Wow, that's really a hard-working dog! I wonder what he gets paid?"
Now i think there is a clever line in here that says as follows "Now Some dogs will fetch a stick others will roll over I even heard of a dog that could shake your hand. All i Know how to do is get a bunch of cattle together and teach them some manners".
From H: I want to say a big THANK YOU for posting this clip! I would watch Sesame Street religiously as a child in the '70s & '80s and "Hard Workin' Dog" was (and still is) one of my all time favorites. I remember it quite vividly from when I was a child and have NEVER forgotten it since. The dog (border collie, I think) runnin' around to the guitar music made me giggle EVERY time (and still does). I believe that every child on this planet should see this. SESAME STREET ROCKS!
FINALLY! I've been wanting this movie to show up on Da Tube for ages now. My older brother actually had to get an Austrailian Shepherd on account of this clip.
all of a sudden this seldom forgotten clip from my childhood means alot more. I'm sure your uncle is up in the clouds somewhere with a guitar on his lap, and a halo over his head :)
