I just saw an awesome scene at close range of a crow chasing a Cooper's Hawk while I was outside. There was even actual contact so it was a real fight. The hawk got the hell out of here though. Never underestimate the crows.
I just saw a couple of hawks going for the nest of a couple of crows. The crows started the fight each taking one hawk, but then they teamed up against one of the hawks while the other retreated. They weren't doing much damage until three other crows swooped in (in formation) and drove off the hawks.
I love crows: they are so smart, interesting, brave birds, they are not afraid of confronting, fighting prey birds like red-tailed hawks, much bigger than them. They team-up to attack hawks invading their territory, Amazing birds.
lol, i remember in summer. a crow made a nest in my mango tree.(it was either a crow, or a raven, cant tell the differance) and every day, whenever i went to go get magos, it would fly down, and bite a bit of my ear xD i stopped going to the tree after it took a little peice off tho lololol
To the other poster here, you are correct. Ravens & Crows, along with Magpies & Jay's are part of the "Corvid Family". However...They are VERY misunderstood birds, not only are they highly intelligent, but very well adept at killing themselves. Where they make lack talons, they make up for with VERY powerful beaks. So two or three adult 20in Crows with 3ft wingspans, can certainly do A LOT of damage to one Red-Tailed Hawk for sure......
Its weird, I've seen in the city I live crows attacking hawks and just the other day I've been watching how 2 crows killed a bird, about half the size of the crows. Both crows started with their beaks hitting the smaller bird
then one crow left while the other started ripping off feathers from the bird for a minute then it departed away.
The attack was on the ground, actually on a concrete in one parking lot.
Pretty brutal. Cruel animals. Perhaps for territory?
The crows will snatch baby birds out of nests of other types of birds and eat them. Apparently the tables are turned, and they know the redtail is doing the same to them. Carma in Mother Nature.
I've seen crows attacking an eagle in my neighborhood!! :0

Crows attack my Hawk all the time. They're not that dangerous to Hawks and Owls, it's just the amount of them that gang up on them makes the go.
