THIS A VERY TRUTHFUL SONG. MAKES ME THINK OF THE PEOPLE WHO REALLY LOVED ME. MY MOM. (BARBARA) , MY COUSIN ( MARYANN), MY AUNT (ROSA) AND BIG GEORGE R.I.P. I LOVE YA'LL AND MISS YA'LL EVERY DAY. TRUE FAMILY NOT TWO FACED FAKES
Congratulations to every that made it through Professor Sayors Class, she has us busy to the last minute with extra credit exercises and a final exam. This song is dedicated to you, because I am in door and can't come out to play.
I saw Cooley High when I was 11 years old when me, relatives, and friends would sneak into the ST.Francis Theater in San Francisco to watch movies we needed an adult to accompany us with. After seeing what happen at the end, we were all silent on the way home on the bus going home to the Fillmoe. We felt it and Twenty years later I watched it with a White Lady friend of mine and two days after watching and I saw her, I told her the end haunted me and she said she kept thinking about the same.
This is one song that makes me remember the best times of my life and the bad times of my life and how I learned from experiences to go on and make my future better day by day.
Boys to Men covered this song. But they can't touch the original version. This song was so sad in the movie "Cooley High." G.C. Cameron's voice is so beautiful. The background singers are on point. The music is beautifully haunting.
Today we laid to rest a 2 month old child by the name of Ja'leyon Malique Burrell, I had the honor of singing his final resting song in which I chose this one. To watch his mother and father weep as I gave tribute to their son was the hardest thing I ve ever done R I P Ja' leyon Malique Burrell gone but not forgotten.
G.C. Cameron had real talent,he could sing like no other, and had alot of different singing styles that alot of people couldn't imitate.he was a true talent that is truely missed.and Cooley High is a classic movie.
THIS SONG IS DEDICATED TO ANY ONE WHO I RAN ACROSS IN MY TRAVELS IN CAMDEN NJ........FRM (1950 TIL NOW) .....R I P TO THOSE WHO ARE NOT HERE TODAY,,,,,,,,CB
The Boyz ToMen version is ok as an effort and I applaud them But this song was never meant to be a beautifully harmonized song. It is the song that someone stands up at our loved ones funeral at church, no fantastic voice, but the words and spirit of the songs brings a river of tears. It is the song that makes people scream and have to be yanked off the coffin! The harmony is in the love the family feels in this moment, not in the harmony of the group crooning. Malik Jual
Yes, I saw this movie at the movie theater, and when Preach was at the grave site waiting for everyone to leave, while this song played, there wasn't a dry eye in the theater! Men, women, all of us cried. We all knew someone who was killed early in or immediately after high school, so we all related. And the family and friends at the grave site looked so real, like when we leave our loved ones out there and the grave attendants cover the grave afterwards. It looked so final. Malik Jubal
I was born and raised in Chicago during the 60's & 70's and I can remember sneaking into the side door of the Rhodes Theater on the South Side of to see Cooley High with some of my partners who I have since lost contact with. Back then we called thems "Shows", I met my first girlfriend in that theater...anyway great song, great post.
Mon, 16 May 2011: I grew up in the 70's. I love almost all music from the 70's, disco to pop and R&B soul. Cooley High is one of my top five favorite movies of all time. I love all the music, but G.C Cameron's classic, is so deeply touching that I have made it our family song to be sung each time a family member of mine's dies. Boys To Men remake is not bad, but it is not even close to the original by G.C. G.C's version is the one I want played on c.d over my own funeral when my time comes.
This song is dedicated to you mommy and papa i miss you and you will never be forgotten for treating me sooo good when i was younger and i can't ever forget the good times we had omg i'm gonna cry. :(
I remember watching cooley high as a kid back in the late 70's.I'm 44 and the youth today just don't understand what true music sounds like or the impact that it could have on our society as people.their so fucking closed minded and caught up into the bullshit mainstream, thugged out,no singing,soul-less, garbage.i'm gonna say it simple & plain,if your not 38 and older you're not old school.there is no more old school.20,30,70 years from today you kids are still not considered old school.
No one sings this song better then G.C.............Far above the rest, even the original singer. Thanx for this video submission. You cant imagine what it means to me!
This brother opened up heaven when he made this song. The angels in heaven cried on this one. I can never finish singing this song myself. Someonelse has to finish it for me. And one day they will.
@mwhite36 I am with you on that. This song has done me a major job over the years - either hearing it or having to sing it at people i loved funerals. As much as it can hurts ... it does help begin the healing after a loss. "If it gets me to tomorrow... I hope it's worth ALL the PAIN... It's so hard to say good bye to yesterday ~~~ And i;ll take with me the memories -"
To my grandmother who pasted away a few years ago; I had dedicated this song to her at the funeral. This is a very powerful and emotional song; which makes you appreciate and remember those who come into your life and add special moments and then are no longer there.
@aralight1: I'm of the same sentiment. In all of the songs that comprise soundtrack of my life, there are only a rare few instances where the remake equals or excels over the original: Ronnie Dyson's remake of "When You Get Right Down To It" bested the original version by the Delfonics; Joe Cocker's version of "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" was better than the Beatles' version; Carl Carlton's remake of "Everlasting Love" was superior to the original version by Robert Knight.
I like Boyz to Men, but this dude's original version brings back memories of people I've lost since the the 70s. It's so cold and real, like listening to Amazing Grace at a funeral. Music has the strength to help me recall details of things that happened years and years ago. It's a constant reminder that "forever" ends when your heart no longer beats.
i kno u are in a better place! but its still hard to say good_bye !!!! to yesterday my sister paulette reid jones, my only sister i had in the world!! r.i.p. ur sister ann~~~~ love u always
This song should have been nominated for the best song Oscar in 1975. People remember this song because it has a true meaning to the movie. I would like to dedicate this song to all of those people who touched my life and passed away. People take the time to enjoy your family and friends for our time is short on this earth. Looking through photos of the last 20 years has shown me that many people I knew have slipped away.
This song was digitally remastered, I know because I purchased it on my Ipod thinking it was gonna sound just like this..surprise. This version is hard to find. It was still GC Cameron but I can tell the song was remastered,,,it sounded clearer
My ex and I went to Cooley High. A lot of people in the movie were people that lived in the projects and actually attended Cooley High. Boy we had some good times in that school. When the movie was made we were married and residing in another state, when they decided to tear the original building down we flew home to get a brick or something as a memory of the "good ole days". I love ths song and listen to it quite often.
@prettyswaggergirl it was located near the north side of Chicago, Illinois. and Eric Monte (former Cooley student) based the film on his experiences from attending Cooley Vocational High School .
@ILOVEMUSIC2MSV Ya know that is very good that you listen to it often because that's the only way your gonna be able to keep those good old memories alive and i love this song soo much and it really makes me cry.
@ILOVEMUSIC2MSV I remember seeing Cooley High in the movie theater for $1.00. When this song started playing during Cochise funeral, everyone started crying. It would be nice to know what happened to some of the people since the movie was made.
This Song has been in my mind since 1995-It helped me to RECOVER FROM AN ADDICTION-That brought me to places -that I don't ever want to see again-BUT THIS SONG REMINDS ME OF WHERE IV'E Been which we can never forget in order to move ahead ONE DAY AT A TIME
@BillyBdAzz Thanx for the reply Billy..--Touching song !! still listen to it--when I was tols to listen to it ...cooley high movie wasnt even thought about or in the works yet:) Look me up on Face Book..Looking forward--user name the same..Peace.out
@phylisettinger the song really hits at what happens to those who are stuck in the past and fail to achieve. Kiss yesterday and the pain goodbye and live for the positive and today!
For me, personally no matter who, what, when, or Where nobody performs this song: It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday," quite like the original, "Mr G.C. Cameron!
Weeping may endure for a moment but joy cometh in the morning. Dear heart Gods knows your heart he will not leave you comfortless...Go to him he is waiting for you without stretched arms....I am praying for you.
NOW THIS IS SOUL...YOU YUNGSTERS LISTEN AND LEARN...GREAT MOVIE...GREAT SONG TO GO WITH IT...REAL SOUL MUSIC...PLUS..I HATE REMAKES...SORRY BOYZ TO MEN...BUT THATS JUST ME...
Simply awesome! Song & Movie!!!!Can't believe Cocheese never married or have kids. He did the fool in Jackson's American dream! (Meaning he was a great actor in the movie).
ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES EVER MADE.... GOOD MUSIC...TALENT.... AND THE TRUTH..... GOTTA LUV IT....THIS SONG BRINGS CHILLS WHEN I HEAR IT... I MEAN THAT LAST PART OF THE MOVIE SEEMED SO REAL... WOW.. THE FUNERAL AND ALL....REMINDS ME WHEN I WAS A TEEN...GROWING UP IN THE BARRIO...WOW
I saw Cooley High when it came out, bought the sound track. Even went to Chicago to see the school. This is probably the most soulful piece I've heard. I just listened to Boyz version and felt they completely missed it. Don't get me wrong, they're talented and all, but I think they were more interested in showcasing talent than feeling the music. I don't believe anyone will ever perform this piece better than Cameron. He captures the emotion of every lyric throughout. Perfect performance.
@Drydoc2 Ima have to agree with you on the Boys @ Men and I'm a fan of theirs. It's not just the singin but the fullness of the music that doesn't grip you on their version. I remember bein a lil girl and my mom takin me to see this and cryin so hard at the end. Music or movies are not the same.
@poohdabear71 It's the ones that make you cry that you remember the most. I agree Boyz II men did their thing but they can't compare to this. I just feel this one so much more.
death is actually a separation. There are many types of death. Divorce is a martial death. Graduation from school can be seen as a death of relationships. Of course physical death is a separation of the life from the body while spiritual death is the soul separated from God. This song can be seen in that category.
@jrynds But physical death you can never come back from, others can be fixed and I think that's the kinda death this song represents, the hearse and casket death.
I remember hearing that song from seeing the movie...it's so beautiful...I cried.
Anyway, as I saw a scene on"OLTL" where "Markko" had to say to "goodbye" His best Friends {Starr and Cole, even Their baby Hope}even the momories of Them together.
Than, He had to say His final goodbye...to His very first love..."Langston"..a goodbye kiss..it was so sad.
so, this would be the song I would use for the final goodbye for "Markko"..He's moving on....Take Care.
R.I.P. to my mom and sister who passed away last Wednesday and last Friday. I love you both from my heart. i hope to see you again. Rest easy my angels.
I love this music and the lyrics. I remember the move.

@ILOVEMUSIC2MSV where was cooley high located and why did they make the movie
prettyswaggergirl 11 months ago
@prettyswaggergirl it was located near the north side of Chicago, Illinois. and Eric Monte (former Cooley student) based the film on his experiences from attending Cooley Vocational High School .

@ILOVEMUSIC2MSV I remember seeing Cooley High in the movie theater for $1.00. When this song started playing during Cochise funeral, everyone started crying. It would be nice to know what happened to some of the people since the movie was made.

Cameron!

Yeah I gotta agree, no Dis to Boyz, but the classics can never be made better, anyone who covers this should cover it simply as is.

XXXXLOWRIDERXXXX 1 year ago
I saw Cooley High when it came out, bought the sound track. Even went to Chicago to see the school. This is probably the most soulful piece I've heard. I just listened to Boyz version and felt they completely missed it. Don't get me wrong, they're talented and all, but I think they were more interested in showcasing talent than feeling the music. I don't believe anyone will ever perform this piece better than Cameron. He captures the emotion of every lyric throughout. Perfect performance.
Drydoc2 1 year ago 4
@Drydoc2 Ima have to agree with you on the Boys @ Men and I'm a fan of theirs. It's not just the singin but the fullness of the music that doesn't grip you on their version. I remember bein a lil girl and my mom takin me to see this and cryin so hard at the end. Music or movies are not the same.
poohdabear71 1 year ago
@poohdabear71 It's the ones that make you cry that you remember the most. I agree Boyz II men did their thing but they can't compare to this. I just feel this one so much more.

death is actually a separation. There are many types of death. Divorce is a martial death. Graduation from school can be seen as a death of relationships. Of course physical death is a separation of the life from the body while spiritual death is the soul separated from God. This song can be seen in that category.
jrynds 1 year ago 4
@jrynds But physical death you can never come back from, others can be fixed and I think that's the kinda death this song represents, the hearse and casket death.
Fanik8 1 year ago
I remember hearing that song from seeing the movie...it's so beautiful...I cried.
Anyway, as I saw a scene on"OLTL" where "Markko" had to say to "goodbye" His best Friends {Starr and Cole, even Their baby Hope}even the momories of Them together.
Than, He had to say His final goodbye...to His very first love..."Langston"..a goodbye kiss..it was so sad.
so, this would be the song I would use for the final goodbye for "Markko"..He's moving on....Take Care.
