I don't know Turkish but in French for example if we say "Bill and his mother", we make his/her agree with "mother" instead of with "Bill", so regardless of whose mother we're talking about, it will always be the equivalent of saying "her mother" in English. Maybe that's where the confusion came from if it works the same way in Turkish... or maybe it was just a mistake since English isn't her native tongue, but either way I don't think she meant any harm. ;)
