I'm a white middle aged gay man who went to harvard to find the writing of many african american authors and realizing that there can be a problematic coopting of an experience not ones own there is also in many lives something which I believe is about what makes me or you or someone with whom we resonate of a similar flesh, of the same meat and often cut off from much of live at the same pulsing root. I am with you and very much like that you posted what is my favorite.
@ryr1974 we are all searching for where we belong at some level and when we resonate with something of another experience outside of our own, I think it is there as a flickering candle to illuminate your own path, to encourage you along the way to make you as you are, with your purpose.
I'm a gay white middle-aged male and their music has *always* spoken to me. I LOVE these ladies! Are you planning any other posts, like Sojourner's Battle Hymn?
Though I own "Still on the Journey" on which appears "Sojourner's Battle Hymn," I have not selected it as music for future posts. I will have a post, however, within the week. Thank you for your comment.
@noahsdad61 I am not planning to post any particular piece at this time. I find a topic that speaks to me; then I find the music that speaks the topic..
I followed some links thru youtube and fell in love with this song. I'm off to buy "The Temptation of St. Anthony". The strength of African Americans just shines through this music. I love how youtube widens our worlds - don't know where else a white woman in Canada would learn about this awesome music - thanks for posting.
I am pleased that you found my channel and that you appreciate the music. I will be posting as soon as I can. Perhaps we will communicate further. I viewed your calligraphic art. Awesome!
One of my favorite songs by Sweet HOney in the Rock. Lol...I feel so old...I knew and worked with the original members of the group before they really made it big! They were fabulous and so are the ladies that sing with the group now.
Old? We age; we improve; we mature; we mellow; we become sage; we become more "seasoned."
I am pleased that you stopped by my fledgling channel, which I am growing at a too-slow pace. But continue to "pop in." I believe you will see and hear something you like.
Worked with Sweet Honey in the Rock! I am impressed. My claim to fame? I own every recording they ever produced. And I have seen them in concert at least twice. Do I like their music and work? Absolutely!
Thank you for listening. I'm always amazed that anyone finds this vid-audio.
While I had no knowledge of Amasong before your comment, I have now researched and am mightily impressed. The recordings "Over Here the Water Is Sweet" and "Amai" hold interest for me. Are you singing on either recording?
does anybody know who originally wrote and recorded this? it is absolutely beautiful!!!
