Abraham was the first Hebrew. The first Jews were the tribe that defended the other tribes in Y'Israel and were called Judah and eventually called Jew. People forget that it's a religion and NOT a people. The reason is there are Jews from many nations and they would say the same thing. Just because you are Hebrew does NOT make you a Jew. Technically there was not a Jewish nation when it was only he and Sarah but God made a covenant with him giving him and his descendants through Isaac and Jacob the Torah and the land of Israel. The people who are descended through this line are today known as the Jews.

abraham was the forth "Ivri", as in son of "Ever" in hebrew. its a title, and those might go on by the father , such as priesthood.
The "jewish" nation weren't a nation back then. only when the son of Salomon split the kingdom to Jews and Israel (/rest of Israel)...
The Israeli nation started from the Jacob, which is grandson of abraham. (Jacob second name was Israel...)
So abraham was not israeli nor jewish... but he was one of the fathers of the nation.
