  • @skibumwin there's no flex at all in the bar during the lift and the straight length of axle you grip is much larger than an ordinary bar. Having no flex really makes it tough to clean.

  • what makes this harder than a clean and jerk?

  • Wow how do they have the balls to call themselves strongest man, and they say its a world record why because you use a wagon wheel and not a weight Hossein Rezazadeh can do that with 580 lbs using ehhm weights< I hold teh world record marshmallow clean and jerk 50 lbs

  • @lilblitz axle's are more difficult to clean than a normal barbell.

  • @puppiesNicecream Koklayev used the same bar and the same weights and did it easily and he doesnt usualy win the press events

  • the 8 people who disliked this lift real weights. O.LIFTING.COM

  • @billysm8 search - Ilya Ilyin 226Kg Clean&Jerk 2011 World Championships Paris - 500 lbs at 195 - 200 bw !!!!

  • VERY NICE DEREK!!!! I love hearing Kristin cheering you on! I hope to meet you two some day soon!!

  • The apollon wheels are incredibly hard, If anybody were to press them I would be vey impressed, olympic lifters probably couldnt do this, yes they have the ability to do crazy overhead lifts, but this bar is 2 inches thick and does not rotate, try lifting that at some time

  • @MrAvoutour its not the press that is the hard part in my opinion its that damn clean

  • @Possimpablee search - Vasily Alexeev - 230kg. (507lb.) Clean & Press - too!

  • Comment removed

  • enjoy being in a wheelchair the remainder of your fucktard lives you crossfit cunts,

  • or he could do the lift with proper form and have some respect from outside the crossfit community...

  • @Possimpablee he took 48 more pounds than this, and put it over his head in one motion! (thats what a snatch is, just in case your ignorant of oly lifting)

  • @ThatDunneKid190 yeah but they have bars that rotate its a completely different thing. and how come koklayev doesnt kick pundstone or zydrunas asses? hes done atleast 240 clean and jerk. you have obviously never tried clean and pressing an axle.

  • @Possimpablee what makes you think he couldnt? he clean and jerked 263.5kg(580 lbs) and snatched 210kg(462 lbs) what makes you think he wouldnt beat all these little bitches in strongman??

  • @ThatDunneKid190 bitches? strongman is a real mans sport, pulling jets, pressing logs, and lifting heavy ass stones and other things, olympic lifting is rediculous. koklyaev couldnt even do 400, besides this is false, this isnt the world record axle, the record is 474 by savickas. this is pure shoulder power kid, none of that squatting and getting under it bullshit, lets see an olympic lifter do half the lifts these guys can do, a strongman holds the world record deadlift at 1015 raw for example

  • most olympic weightlifters are able to back squat over 2x there bodyweight, and they obviously deadlift a shitload if thay are able to move over 500 pounds over there heads! that proves that any olympic weightlifter can be a strongman or powerlifter, but not every powerlifter/strongman can be an olympic weightlifter...

  • @ThatDunneKid190 no not all olympic lifters can be strongmen. look at rezazadeh, the best olympic lifter. could he do strongman? no he couldnt.

  • @steriods4champions wow... bring in some facts maybe? all i can hear is blabla... im dumb and im not afraid to show it on youtube...

  • wow thats impressive. i feel sorry for his lower back when hes retired from this. he straight up jerks his back hard as hell and bends back with all that weight on it.

  • @steriods4champions its just painfully obvious that you know nothing about the sport of olympic weightlifting after stating that they're fat and somehow use magic chicken technique to clean tremendous weight, then cheat by squatting when they "press" lol. why don't you atleast do a 2 minute google search on it before talking out of your ass?

  • @atgcuz ohhh another youtube smartass coming to give his expert advice on a subject that finished a week ago.

  • @steriods4champions it only seems like im an expert because you're a tard lol

  • @atgcuz wooow a tard? how old are you?

  • god danm every time he bends his back i feel mine breaking lol

  • STFU to those who talks about weightlifting in this video!!! weightlifting they use all body parts (leg drive) but strongman axle press they use less leg drive!!! learn about strongman than u can post ur comment here... strongman uses their pure strength to lift

  • @zarol95 Power lifting dumbass not weight lifting, weight lifting is just the thing in general you're lifting the weight...

  • @666xXxSLAYERxXx666 woow ur so smart... have u ever watch olympic lift on tv? u see the title? its weightlifting u dick!!! btw in powerlifting they dont have axle press :P powerlifting only squat deadlift and benchpress ur a cunt

  • Behdad Salimi 214kg Snatch World Record - 2011 World Weightlifting Championship its about 470 pounds

  • @j123popeye oi dick, weightlifting and strongman is dffrnt watch wat ur sayin!... strongman use less leg drive! pure shoulder strength!

  • @zarol95 You first learn how be polite when you have conversation with somebody !!!

If am dick what you are ......... Look yours self in mirror......... Have nice day polite man !

  • @j123popeye I don,t have conversation with you stupid fuck .... You spouts to now what is conversation of what is comments.........

  • @zarol95 and im sorry for not being polite.. just a bit pissed off cos ppl keep commenting about weightlifting in this video and im so sorry for being rude .. :/

  • @zarol95 I dont talkt with you better keep your mouth closed....... Thank you..

  • in olympic weight lifting they do like 500 pounds in heavyweight category.

Its another sport i know but he is not muchfor an olympic weight lifter.

  • beast

  • woah! listen the crowd that what makes it worth training for.

  • his wife fucking loves the shit out of him. lucky bastard

  • Weightlifters lift way much more weight than this with an olympic bar

  • @vagvll Axles are a lot harder to clean, champ.

  • Koklyaev and Savickas are the strongest men in shoulder power alive today.Koklyaev has done a 220kg push press with ease and Savickas has the world record in log press and axle press, log was 217kg or so i think and axle was 205kg.

  • no disrepect but i had high hopes for you in worlds strongest man 2010 (watched it the other day) but you disappointed me!

    get it together

  • @Genosiidez You say "no disrespect" and then make a disresectful comment? Who are you to be disapointed? You tell a pro athlete to "get it together"! Do you have it together? Probably not. Probably not even close... If you had it together, you would not be making these stupid comments. Get yourself together, and if you want to be disapointed, look in the mirror. FYI, Derek competed in WSM with a quad tear. And, still made the finals. Disappointment or miracle? And won ASM right after.

  • @Genosiidez Did you see his training teaser where it shows him tear his quad while squating his third set of light weight for reps... He was only able to do one car deadlift because of it. And i am sure i damperd in other parts of the competition like the farmers carry and the first event. Maybe study a little before you disrespect the one of the strongest men in America. By the way, he set a world record shortly after his injury with the 2 inch dumbell in Japan.

  • @ThelegendAtlas sshhh yours lips

  • It looked like he could have done more

  • thats gotta be the best feeling hearing a crowd like that screaming for you!

  • man that hurts my back to see him twisting his spine after he presses the weight,

notice the muscle difference in his 414 and Paul Andersons 435 press in 1954, men just had abnormal strength back then, probably because all they did then was man shit like lifting logs and 55 gallon drums filled with concrete

  • @jamesadair89 Dude, its not like all men back then were that strong.

  • WOW!

  • @kaktustaggig First, 4 plates a side on a smith machine is 360-385, the bar is counterweighted so it doesn't add much if anything. The presses were also seated and his spotter was pulling the bar up the whole time. Zydrunas has strict pressed 440X5 reps, which is likely a world record even considering old time pressing monsters like redding alexeev and Patera. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. There will never be a bodybuilder stronger than Zydrunas is now pure and simple.

  • @DeadliftequalsLife I would not be so quick to say that. Coleman romanian deadlifted 800lbs for 2 reps, military pressed 275 for 14 or so, squatted 800 for 2, so he's getting pretty damn close. Branch Warren military presses 315 for 20 reps... and he said he did 405 for 10 reps or so before also. Furthermore, bodybuilders just keep getting stronger and stronger. So If you ask me, sooner or later bodybuilders will be zydrunas' strength.

  • @DeadliftequalsLife i actually feel like i have to challenge that. Paul Anderson was and is the strongest for the heaviest weight ever lifted. Im not sure how much he lifted. But its so much that "it hasnt even been near being broken" . And also mariusz pudzianowski in his PRIME would've beaten him. As seen by his 5 time WSM titles. Also sigmarsson and kazmaier would DESTROY him. Savickas is im pretty darn sure. very strong, but compared to those LEGENDS he isn't quite their yet.

  • One of the things I love about this sport is that I can love two athletes that have strong (pardon the pun) competition with each other. Zydrunas is easily one of my favourites (alongside Kazmaier), but Poundstone is also a favourite.

If I were watching a final of a football match there's no chance I'd support both teams- but that's good in its own way as well.

  • com'on Derek lol

  • was this a last man standing event?

  • the way i see it poundstones the shit, wether "big z" is stronger or not

  • some ppl in the olympics can do it with 500 and 550 pound no?

  • @muzimuzi the axel is a lot thicker than an olyimpic bar so far harder to grip. Also, he ended that in a push press which is a lot harder than a clean and jerk.

  • holy fuck! AND THAT WAS STEROID FREE

  • @zovaarth HAHAHAHAHA

  • @zovaarth hahaa very onlikely man, actully 0% likely. these guys take alot of riods just like every other profesional athlete.

  • He just made that look way too easy.

  • just fucking nuts.

  • good god...

  • the man is a beast

  • Im a massive poundstone fan but im sure 80% of the world would agree with me when i say there is not a better presser than him!!

  • Zydrunas can give him a damn good run for his money, if not be better outright. That guy strict presses monster weight that other guys can't even push press on their best days.

  • Agreed, Zydrunas doesn't even jerk weights, he just presses them.

    Godly shoulders right there.

  • Not only that, I remember watching the IFSA 2007 finals and for the highest weight log press guys were struggling just to get 160 and 170 kilo to shoulder level and were bombing out on the jerk. Zydrunas comes over, cleans 190 kg in one motion, and strict presses it like it was a warmup. Nuff said.

  • @krakistophales GLENN ROSS USED TO BE A GREAT PRESSER AS WELL. ID LIKE TO SEE A FACE OFF BETWEEN ZYDRUNAS, POUNDSTONE,MUSHA,REZZADEH and phil fist-her (lols)

  • Zydrunas have shown everybody several times that he can press heavyer weights than Poundstone. Zydruna is the real beast!

  • imagine when he threw it, it just lands on his foot

  • damn!

  • world record? he can rep that like 3 times when he works out in the gym.

  • He reps 405 on the Axle Press when he trains, and (I don't know you so I don't know what you can or cannot do) I'm not sure if you have ever andled serious weight like that but that 9lb increase makes the difference!!! I have axle pressed 335 and it was the single most near impossible thing I have ever done! I tried for 350 and had 0 chance, I mean 0 chance!!

Check out Justin Warren on youtube, I had the chance to compete against him 3 weeks ago, wanna see strong? See Justin Warren!

  • Derek KILLED that axle!!!!!!!!!

  • Did someone say 500 next ; ) good job.

  • thats the wildist crowd ive ever scene

  • he's the home town favorite. Born in and still lives in CT

  • That looked way too easy.

  • connecticut all the way baby!!!

  • Big Z is the strongest overhead presser in the world

there isn't anything else to say

  • Well done.Its not the 50's anymore.CONDITIONING.check it out.

  • And Glenn "The Daddy" Ross!!!

  • true! But this is stil badass!

  • @DeadliftequalsLife is he???? the big russian misha can press 200kg for reps!!!! there you go

  • @DeadliftequalsLife It appears to be that way. Wonder what his shoulder to shoulder measurement is, he may have to go sideways through some doors. Clothes have to be custom made, no starvation victim is he. Imagine NFL players bouncing off him.

  • @DeadliftequalsLife yeah im pretty sure he came to my gym one day because it was a russain sholder pressing ( standing up) 425 for 3 ( normal bar).

  • THAT's how a world's strongest man looks like

  • easyy

  • looked prity easy for him!

  • wrong*

  • i was there to see this.. almost shit my pants

  • i dont know if this is a WR.. Didnt savikas do 200kg Axel in 2007 IFSA final?

  • you are correct Z done 200 kilos so I dont know why its a new WR.

  • What Z did was log press. This is Axle.

  • as i know it he also did axle

  • I could be wrong.

  • Azuki1982: You are wrong :).. Check out the video from 2007 IFSA, its an Axel.

  • different type of axle...i believe the one at ifsa revolved...this is not a revolving handle

  • Revolving? The big difference between bar and Axel and what makes it harder is that the axel does not rotate. Is that what you mean?? The Axel used in the IFSA final 2007 was the same as this and the same used in the Arnold

  • so then how come big z doesn't have the world record?

  • cuz they're saying this is different cuz its the "iron mind" axel. Its the same as the others used. happy now?

  • Iron Mind makes the axle which is a replica of the original appolons. This axle is a 2' thick smooth bar. The 2007 IFSA Worlds and the Arnold Classic Axle are 1 3/8' thick and knurled. Big difference, I refrence the articles in the descriptions.

  • Because he has not been in a contest with a max axle. It's always for reps.

  • The scariest part if this was that the 414 press seemed easier then his first 3 attempts at lower weights. There are some guys out there that can jerk that type of weight pretty good, but Derek is one of the best/purest overhead Pressers* the game has ever seen. Limit strength like Savickas and a better rep presser than Mariusz.... Outstanding!

  • Tremendous! Thanks for letting us go along on his quest, this documentation is priceless!

  • this keeps getting better with every clip i watch....!!!!

  • MINDBLOWING FEAT OF STRENGTH !! congrads !!

  • great lift, made it look easy!!

  • derek, you're the man! congrats!

  • Amazing, great lift

  • SICK! Looked easy! I am coming to get my record back though! :)

  • Looks like he could easily do 20 pounds more.

  • Derek just keeps getting better and better. He's my pick to win WSM this year

  • UNREAL DEREK!!! GREAT JOB MAN!!!
