Our accuser stands before God night and day. If God keeps a book of those worthy to enter Heaven, wouldn't satan try to do the same? A book of names written in it, those he thinks belong in hell? Scary thought.

Man is angry now, for he has no love in his heart anymore. Man is greedy, and greed is the greatest of the 7 Deadly Sins, for it drives all others. Laid on an altar signifies false religion or beliefs, the book with one name, leaving one mark, implies law. So, a mark mandated by false beliefs upon a disbelieving man...yep...Revelation already covers most of this...but seems that the mark, in your dream, is justified because of greed...and is associated to it as well.
This is the standard now, not the exception...disbelieving men chasing all things BUT the Great Creator, for they seek to deny the truth, but rush to fill the void they, themselves create, with anything that pleases them in their physical being.
