China has a grotesque overpopulation problem that any government would fail to address. 20 bmillion people dying is only a small proportion of the usual and normal death rate. Sino-Indian war was mainly triggered by the unclear definition of the boarders -- India defines the boarder as the north of the McMahon Line, which was never recognised by the Qing Empire, the republic nor the people's republic that followed. Increase of Indian boarder incursions and the New Delhi's support for Tibetan independence didn't help either. The main reason for the war was geopolitical, not some person trying to save some face.
