Ok then, I got a question for you.

There are people out there that do put up videos of copyrighted content but they add their own form creative work to it such as narration, movie maker editing and even clips from themselves that they have created.

Sure they are using copyrighted content but they are also throwing in their own little twists to them as well like video game uploaders.

Do these people, in your eyes, also qualify as illegal law breakers?

But if the SOPA act goe's ahead if one person uploads ONE single copyrighted thing then the WHOLE site goe's down in 2 seconds , no one can fight against it the site will be taken down the person with copyrighted material and that person will be arrested and blacklisted from the internet. That means even a song in the backround of your video then that counts as copyright to them , these people don't care about copyright , it's a cover-up if SOPA goe's ahead it'll be the death of the Internet.

@DWhoFan2011 I think it will not effect those that use their talent wisely and do not have to use others work in order to justify it. For instance Thats The way it goes 09 has used some music that he got from a free site for his intro. He does not use copyright footage. I use it whilst the bill is not out yet. As soon as I get the warning I will remove the copyright.

I agree with the SOPA legislation as it sounds. I was thinking that when rights are refused, it pushes creativity as new works have to be made to fill that now vacant space. It forces the market to expand.

@rollingcube SOPA had to come about when people are blatantly sharing illegal downloads and even making a profit on them. I have seen that filesonic turns a blind eye to illegal content on their servers. People are sharing games and mp3z that they do not own the rights to and making a fantastic amount of money off them. Filesonic pays out 35 dollars per 1000 downloads easy if you get new stuff. So you can tell the greed that is being produced.

Okay, you clearly misunderstood MTR's video. SOPA doesn't affect YT channels, it effects the entire site. If SOPA passes and there is copyrighted content on a website then it can get taken down. So YouTube could get taken down. NOT JUST A CHANNEL, THE WHOLE WEBSITE. MTR has Fair Use protecting him, so while his videos are protected from SOPA the website he's hosting them on isn't (in this case YouTube). If SOPA passes then you could lose your account as well. It affects everyone.

@downaspergianstar1 Ok I will spell this out in simple terms. MRTARDISREVIEWS is not protected by COPYRIGHTLAW. DMCA is a Law that means that if BBC so wished they could take him to court on the grounds of copying their work. He may win in court under fair use. But then again he could still be taken to court. Youtube is not a court room and any law can only be decided by a court of law. I repeat Fairuse is an act it is by no means a guarantee you will win in court

But the only time he would have to worry about SOPA is if he has illegal content that is not sanctioned by The Entertainment Industry. Which he clearly does. I am looking forward this act and of course will fully comply with what they tell me to do to keep my Channel on Youtube. Because some of us don't need copyright content to make decent content

@Aspergianstar2009 *bangs head against wall*. You STILL don't understand what SOPA does. If SOPA passes then where won't be a youtube for you to comply with to keep your channel. SOPA holds the hosts of the website responsible and shuts them down without any opposition (so google can't protest). Channel's dont get taken down, the whole website does. Actually do your research on this subject because it's clear you only support SOPA because MTR opposes it *facepalm*.

Like I said before anyone says well you have copyright stuff on yours. If Youtube gave me a few weeks and told me it was to be removed or my channel was then I would have to find a way to make content without the footage. I use my green screen in order to show people a visual representation of what I am talking about. But if needs be I would have to find other ways to explain. Radio presenters still found an audience before TV.

I repeat the only people who will lose out to this new law are people who are breaking the law. It will mean that more original content will appear on youtube. More original ideas as people will not be able to rely on others work in order to get views. They will have to for the first time in their lives think before they post. Decide on original funny content. You don't have to have copyright content to sell yourself on youtube. You just need a niche and a chance to exploit it

@Aspergianstar2009 the real problems with the law lie in the way it's applied, the content is taken down BEFORE anyone reviews to make sure it's not infringing, and if you even link to a site that has pirated material (even if you're unaware of it) your site can get taken down. anyone who uses the internet will get screwed by this bill, in the US or other countries.

@satanisthetruegod666 I used to be in the warez scene and its like anything else it gets addictive and you think its ok to use others work and copy it. But then you start complaining when companies go the wall and you get crappy content. The big problem is that copying others work just harms the industry. I think a fair system would be for copyright holders to take 90% of the rev and you get 10% for promoting it. I doubt its going to happen but it is a thought.

People, generally speaking, are shitting their pants over the freedoms that SOPA will strip from them. Consider, when this act is in place, an American who happens to accidentally capture the background TV on his video camera when the main subject of filming is something unrelated; his video will be wiped off YouTube. I don't think it'll be as bad as YouTube being wiped off the map altogether -- that much we agree on -- but it has far-reaching implications, nonetheless.

Now, with YouTube being based on America this will extend to innocent civilians the world over. I'm sure, however, that there will be ways to circumvent this for those of us fortunate enough to lie outside of its jursidiction. If what you say about Mrtardis is true, he will simply move to another video-sharing site.

SOPA by the day, however, seems ever less likely to pass. Backing is starting to wane in Congress.

3. Seems unfair to penalize such a tiny infraction, don't you think? It's a bit excessive and resonates of something Orwellian. Although I do agree with using non-copyrighted music. I don't have to worry -- communist-era Soviet classical music, North Korean music, etc are not signatory to any international copyright law.

This I suspect to be a lye of sorts as it would mean that SOPA would not be a threat to him. But actually we now know different. @RaymondLikesMen He could use a UK Based Server but it would only give him limited protection. Any US people that came to his server would not be allowed to share his links or link on their websites. That would limit him to only the UK. Also I am sure if this law is passed then the UK will follow suit. I think this will be great for youtube as it will force channels to make original content to keep viewers interested and not simply rely on copyright content ....

Doesn't stop him sharing the link to them; neither does it stop him receiving US viewers who chance upon it in general, for that would delve into censorship territory, of which SOPA as a law has no scope. It simply means Americans can't be too loud about it. But do recall that SOPA is a law amongst a long linage of failed censorship initiatives which have similarly fallen through. I see time's passage forgetting this, like in other legislation, as nothing is done through it.

@RaymondLikesMen Now the only thing people will have to be wary of is to turn their TV off in the background if they show things on youtube. If its music they must edit it out or use a free music website. If they have copyright graphics or copyright music then they deserve it to happen. I will be ready for the new bill when it is in place. It has not stopped Fred and others from making quality content with no other material than their own. I am not going to cry over it!!

Under American Copy Right Law anyone can use copyright material without permission aslong as its either for Education, News, criticism, parody.

@Tzimnewman3 I heard a rumour that the DMCA is going to be amended with the SOPA law but not sure. I would say that the SOPA will give bigger powers to take down Copyright and Illegal Content from the Internet. Actually already this can be done. You simply compile a database of codes that are within the actual pictures or videos and you set up a bot to sweep the net deleting any items it finds with that unique hash table. It has been developed to delete CP and it could be used for copyright

An internet movie reviewer who became more respected by everyone because he was independant, but it's kinda harder for people to follow in his kind of footsteps if there's the possibility of his content being removed just because he 'harms the brand'. Informed opinions have a right to be heard, I think one of the other reasons people don't want this law to go through is because of the wording, much of this 'infringing content' can be removed without appeal?
