I have one of those tips that I want to make a diy soldering pencil controller for but I can't seem to figure out the pin out, I can get it hot to melt solder but no useful reading from the thermocouple. Would you happen to know what the pin out would be? I assume the outer body is ground.
Hi linuxgeek, I have could make what I need with the WD2000M station. I open it and I modifiyed the transformer. You did not recomended it but I have not choice. You can see it in my video, thank you very much.
Hi Linuxgeek. Do you have any information for to OPEN this station? (for copper wire transformer modifying 120V to 230V) ? There is some screws but nothing comes when they are removed ! Thank you for your nice video.
@4002inch Depends on how much you solder. Half a year if you solder a lot. And it depends on the tip itself, the finer ones will give in quicker. I use only two different tips, but I wanted a depot tip as well... but this one costs even more ;)
I`d much rather go for the non-digital version, where you can turn the knob
to adjust the temperature. I bet they last longer than the digital ones. But i must say i am fed up with my cheap thick wired soldering irons. So therefore i gladly would pay to get something like this. But i don`t know what to get yet..i guess Weller is a good alternative.
i just got one from radioshack that i believe is a weller just with radioshack logo slapped on it but i am wondering, is it safe if you accidentally breath in the fumes from the solder
Short Answer is NO. But to do it once every blue moon you'll be OK.
Never do it intentionally. You should wear a mask if your under it all the time.... You could rig up something to suck the Fumes away. They sell soldering irons with this built in. You could EASILY Make one. A small tube attached to the IRON itself and a Pump on the other end sucking the fumes up.
Nice... I am looking at getting a much higher caliber soldering station then my wtcpt or whatever its called would this be the next step I am looking at making guitar fx pedals and want a nice premium soldering station with out spending a fortune.... I cant really find a website that helps any help would be great cheers :)
Guitar pedals? Sounds a little to crude for that station. It's more made so solder fine SMDs, but you can solder cruder parts, too. However I would not see the advantage there.
I noticed this is the wd1000m the micro version,So maybe the wd1000 would be better have you any experience with it? main reason for a top quality soldering station i want are ESD safe lead free and digital temp control.... My Current Weller WTCPTD will do for the time being until further research.
Another thing Do you do pc mods or repair work or something? Is this your hobby or job?
I made one once however it was too long for YouTube. About 10 minutes is not quite enough to explain such a device accurately, even if it is just an overview. However maby I take another approach ;)
Cool fine station. They made many improvements compared to old stations, it's incredible! Using flux with clean and small tip it permits soldering any SMD chip.
The hard part is desoldering, but for new chips in prototypes is not needed so often.

@AIexanderHartdegen I really wouldn't recommend that.

Hello Linuxgeek, I have a question.
I am very interstered by this very nice soldering station, I have used lot's of direct 220 V plug irons, and I would like to change my work station,
How much time duty life of this kind of tip? A tip costed 32 euros, and if a tip have a short life time, I think this pen is not good for me.
And how much kind of tips did you use for general uses? Thank you :)

@HamRadio2008 Hey ;) I enjoy the station, it really takes soldering up to a new level. Don't want to miss it.

@waldenhouse I paid about EUR500 with an additional tip. This would be something around $600 I guess ;)

i have rosin-core light duty solder
psyfertech 3 years ago
- @ psyfertech -
It is not recommended as most solder contains lead - but I've been soldering for over 25 years.
Just don't sit directly over the work and huff the fumes.

okay, thanks
i have inhaled it and sometimes it causes a headache but not all the time

or get lead free solder

So this would be overkill for stuff like that? Would the WSD151 or WESD51 be a better choice?
