  • and now we have the hurricanes here in NC :D

  • I think I would break down and cry if this ever happened in new jersey

  • @DrStephenAwesome disagreed. The bolts have done fine

  • Hartford was caught geographically and figuratively between two larger and more traditional sports cities - New York and Boston - and it's a city where loyalties are divided even when the Whalers were there. It had some Bruin fans (the Celtics played some home games at the Civic Center, too) and a large concentration of Ranger fans particularly in Stamford/Greenwich and Fairfield County. It's doubtful the NHL will come back to Hartford, but stranger things have happened.

  • should've been tampa bay's last game florida doesn't deserve a hockey team

  • I'm from Southern California but I miss the Whale. My first hockey game I ever went to was the Whalers vs. Los Angeles Kings at the Forum in 1992. The Whalers lost but I loved their uniforms and have been a fan ever since.

  • @wewd I'm ALSO from Southern California...but a Ducks fan.

But one thing we and ALL So. Cal fans can agree on--

WE WANT THE NORDIQUES AND WHALERS BACK!

Who cares about facing the Coyotes, they're awful, their arena's empty, and their most of their fans--all 200--are ignorant...they don't Bleed Coyote Red and CERTAINLY not like those that bled and still bleed Whaler Green...

The Jets came back to Winnipeg--Quebec and Hartford left with them, I say, complete the hat trick, bring them ALL BACK!

  • I am from Fredericton, NB, Canada, but Bristol, CT is my second home. My aunt has lived there since the 60's, and my cousins live there today. I never had a chance to get to see the Whalers live, and when they left Hartford, I was pretty bummed out.

    Thanks for posting!

  • The Jets are back, now bring back the Whalers & Nordiques!

  • Its always a really crappy day when a team moves. Florida I think will not move. Phoenix is probably moving to Kansas City. Coyotes WILL move. Tampa Bay wont. Its either Kansas City or Hartford.

  • I've got a banner in my basement with the old Jets logo, the Whalers logo and even the Nordiques logo. Memories. Hartford deserves to have an NHL team back

  • Its too bad Hartford lost its team. Its just another eample of greed.

  • 2:59 Champions in our hearts... should have been champions in Hartford in 2006

  • their last uni was the best with the darker green and more blue and grey

  • My prediction.

Columbus:if they don't make the playoffs in the next 3 years their either going to Hartford or Quebec.

  • Its still not time for the Whalers to return, unfortunately. So long as the HCC stands, no NHL team will elect to play in it. If the Panthers make a serious run this season and attendance doesnt drastically improve, we will probably hear the relocation rumor mill start brewing. Unfortunately, it would probably be Quebec that receives a team before Hartford because they have an NHL ready arena.

Also, why is hockey awesome? Someone threw a fish on the ice. No other sport would allow that :D

  • i'm from slovakia, true hockey country so i understand what does it mean to lost the team in the hockey town and move it somewhere down to caroline where they have no clue what hockey is. i wish hartford as a traditional hockey play nhl in the near future. what i want is to move phoenix back to canada, and maybe florida and nashville to canada, too. let's say to missisauga/toronto area and hamilton./

  • @vitacit Say what you want about teams like Phoenix and Florida, but Nashville has a strong fanbase, with attendance that has risen every year since the lockout, and are now playing to full house crowds.

  • @JCMoney i do agree with nashville. sorry, my mistake.

  • Next team to go to Canada is Phoenix, only a matter of time.

  • why is that dumb ass at 6:38 wearing a new jersy jersey?

They aren't even playing in this game.

  • @thewhistler Try saying that to everyone who wears the wrong jersey at a hockey game...

  • @gowolves4 the coyotes aren't moving cuz theyr good...

  • The Whalers should have come back before the Jets. But once the Coyotes are gone they will be back.

  • this was cool to see, Whalers looked like a cool team, but im so glad Jets are back!!!!

  • i can only imagine how tough it was to see carolina win the title

  • what happened to the players after this happened?

  • What The Hell! hartford actually had good attendence, why da fuck did they toss em'! >8C

  • @magafuzzeeballz They didn't toss them. The asshole owner is from Michigan. He wish he could afford to own the Red Wings but purchased the Whalers. If the NHL allowed 2 teams in Detroit, he would have moved them there. It'll be a matter of time before the douche bag relocates them from North Carolina.

  • @EdzieProv I hope they get relocated back to hartford, that would be awesome.

  • @EdzieProv A Seattle hockey team would be pretty cool eh?

  • @magafuzzeeballz Actually Hartford had terrible attendance. I remember many many many games from the late 80's early 90's where they had nothing but empty seats.

  • @magafuzzeeballz They had great attendance in the last year once we knew the team was going to be leaving. There was plenty of time in the 90's (which is all I can remember, I'm 24) where attendance was pretty bad.

Still love my Whalers though. Being there that day was one of the most emotional experiences of my life. I don't remember much from 1997 but I remember being there.

  • Bring em back to Hartford

  • Why did hartford move?

  • the guy at 6:36 wearing a New Jersey Devils jersey?

  • Hartford Whalers logo is my favorite logo.

  • @jet4212006 I loved the logo as well. It was unique. The W with the whale tale. A lot of people didn't realize the H in the center for Hartford.

  • lol little whale at 4:18! buddy must a big one by now

  • 3:55 GO IN!

  • Loved driving up to Hartford to see the Whale at the MALL. Chucks steak house.I'm an Islanders fan.Cleanest Arena in the NHL.

  • @robphilll22 Hartford had one of the nicest arenas back in the day. I used to love going. Grab a bite to eat in the basement food court before the game. The good old days!

  • I miss the Whalers :( They where one of my favriote teams as a kid

  • goosebumps...go whale!!!!

  • Could you post the full broadcat of this game on your channel please? I would love to watch it. Thanks and I love your channel.

  • I'm a Carolina Hurricanes fan and I even admit that Hartford should not have lost their team. The NHL should have done the same thing to them, similar to the Cleveland Browns re-location controversy, IMO.

  • @markmay77 hahahahaaaa this sucks really NHL Icehockey dont belong to florida or arizona or other sunbeltstates.they can have teams in the Minorleagues but not even there hockey must be played in canada and other countrys with the right environment.ICE.i like that NHL teams playing some preseason games in Europe. i hope it will last forever.the NHL is very very famous in Europe.specially in Sweden, Finland, Germany, Russia, Switzerland, Czech Rep. Norway, UK etc.

  • Being from New Haven, one of my few regrets in life was never getting to Hartford for a game. We should be back playing top tier hockey in North America far more than Nashville. Winnipeg never should have left.

Long live the Whale and long live the New Haven Nighthawks.

  • @BigBlack81 Columbus and Phoenix and the Panthers all have shittier attendance than us.

    Fuck you.

  • Touch of class that the players didn't celebrate the victory. They were more depressed about leaving Hartford (especially Kevin Dineen, what a great guy) than they were happy about beating the Lightning.

  • Edmonton oilers vs Phoenix coyotes " Doan shoots he scores oh the fan goes wild"

  • give winnipeg the jets back, give quebec the nordiques back, give hartford the whalers back. get rid of the coyotes, panthers, and predators

  • @Ducksrule123 I agree with all of that, and I'm hoping you mean that Quebec gets an expansion team called the Nordiques. If not, that would mean no Colorado Avalanche, and Denver has DEFINITELY proven its worth as a hockey town. They sell out nearly every night, and the team has won two Stanley Cups. Moving them to Denver was actually a good move. The others, I agree with.

  • @chabrastamepues i hope that Betman will agree to move phoenix and florida to Quebec City and Conneticut and bring back the Metropolitans in Seattle.

  • give away the coyotes thrashers panthers annd then give them to hardford, Quebec and winnipeg They deserve them more

  • @sabresrock234 You know Seattle needs an NHL franchise why? Because Seatlle was the first American city to ever win the Stanley cup and not many ppl these days know about it except for the ppl of Seattle of coarse

  • @Flipstazzz right the team was Seattle Metropolitans and were really the first non canadian team to win the CUP.so Mr.Betman bring back a NHL team to Seattle.

  • @sabresrock234 The city had them then wouldn't go see them. No city "deserves" to have a team. It sucks I know but a team that was making money wouldn't leave.

  • @sabresrock234 we got winnipeg back, GO JETS GO, bring back the vintage teams

  • @sabresrock234 where is hartford?

  • @redwingz1998 conneticut

  • @sabresrock234 um no. should have supported your teams when you had them

  • @toiletsrus they arnt my teams..if you look at my name im a sabres fan, and winnipeg got theirs back, quebec is next.

  • @sabresrock234

Winnipeg has the Jets again... Hartford should be next.

  • @sabresrock234 U got 1 out of 3

  • @sabresrock234 Coyotes to Hartford, Jackets to Quebec and Panthers to Seattle.

  • @sabresrock234 Well the Thrashers are in Winnipeg now. At least move the Coyotes. Panthers appear to be on the upswing with both increased attendance and better play.

  • take out the coyotes take out the panthers bring back the jets and bring the whalers back

  • sad to see such a great hockey city loose a team that meant so much to the community and the fans. it makes you wonder when you watch a thrashers game and see all 5 fans it the stands that probably thaught they were going to a atlanta hawks game.

  • @TheRumplestiltsken The Whalers became the Hurricanes...

  • As a Jackets fan, we were lucky to have Kevin Dineen play here 2+ years.

  • Hartford, I feel your pain. I live in Winnipeg and our team was also brutally ripped from us. All u need is a new arena!

  • I hope this isn't a preview of Nassau Coliseum and the Islanders...

  • hope some fans held on to those jersey's they are collector items now-most of the players on the Whalers where the cornerstone of the Hurricanes success

  • 3:55 GO IN!

  • it all still seems surreal. As a season ticket holder for 12 years I can say with all my heart Peter Karmonos kiss our collective asses!!

  • that was a goal

  • Comment removed

  • Lightning just wanted to get out before someone killed them

  • I love the Whalers.

  • If you look at the Hartford current from the next day I am the one walking with my dad when we are leaving for the last time. Watching this still gets me choked up and I'm 26 now, I live in philly and can only hope that my son (1 and a half) has something that is as special to him that the whalers were for me. I miss them and I'm so happy that I have the videos to get me through.

  • When I first got on youtube in 2006 there was 1 video on the Whalers then, now they are all over the place.

  • I have been looking for this for the past 3 years on youtube. I saw that it had finally been posted and I cried. From the bottom of my heart. Thank You so much for posting this. You dont understand how much it means to me.
