I've been a Supremes fan since 1964 and, in my opinion, Mie and Kei did an outstanding job on this song. I sure don't have the guts to sing an upbeat song in Japanese. I have enough trouble with "M" by Princess Princess.

BTW just for your information, a Japanese student cannot graduate from highschool without knowing English. The requirement is 100 words and be able to form a sentence. However, on the most part, Japanese do not speak english! Some are better at it than others and we should remember that their mouths don't work that way. It is always an effort and we should remember how it would be for us to speak Japanese.

They did a good job. BTW they were in Japan.

They did wonderfully on their version, and anyone who says otherwise should try singing something in a foreign language and see how well they do. I was in choir for a long while, and had to sing music in German, Latin, Italian, ect. I still can't pronounce some of the phrases right.

Anyway, it was an awesome video. If I could give a million stars I would. They did very well for learning phonetically! =D

I'm pretty sure they sounded great in their native Japanese. At least they used their real voices (unlike, for instance, Milli Vanilli) and made a valiant effort to sing these songs phonetically in English.

I like this song very much, however Pink Lady seems to be suffering through it. This video shows how hard english really is for Japanese.  Still like this video because it was an excellent tribute to the Supremes who Mie and Kei had heard as children. Before them, that sound could only be found in American songs in Japan.

At least it sounds like they're TRYING to do the song justice, unlike the version The Hollies did on their mid 80's reunion album.

To give them their credit, from what I recall, these girls spoke almost no English. When they did their US variety show in the early 80's (they were billed as "The biggest thing in Japan since Godzilla"), they had to learn all the songs and the dialog during the skits, etc phonetically. Let's see how well YOU do singing a song in Japanese!

This is an extream honor for the Supremes, and I am sure they knew it. I was just letting everybody who might make fun of their pronunciations that their mouths really don't work that way. Mie and Kei spoke Japanese and they were having problems with the pronunciations and the rules of grammar that do not apply in Japanese.

They did a great job as they did with all their english songs, and they truly deserved the #1 world rating! They were the highest grossing singers in the world of 1978.

I lived in a small town who wouldn't carry anything by "Those Nips" and I missed out on a lot even though they recieved very minor and minimal air play.  The predjudice against Japanese was very evident even when they were out. It broke my heart. I wanted to keep Pink Lady and knew the only way was to buy their stuff. So, I missed out on a lot of Pink Lady.

In college in Tokyo in the mid-seventies, I remember this duo as the most popular of Japanese groups - Pepper Kabu, one of their huge hits. Kudos to your homage to the Supremes. It truly is respectful of them to honor the girls... Well done!

This song was difficult for them to perform. If anybody is going to criticise the way these two are pronouncing the words all I can say is Anatawa Nihongogi Hanashimasu, then you will understand!

It is an honor to have a Japanese duo to sing an American song. And the Supremes should consider this an honor that Pink Lady sang their song.

When these two, Mitsuyo Nemoto and Keiko Masuda ie: "Pink Lady" came to the states I found them very intriguing. Fell in love with them, so I really appreciated their attmpts at english. This is very good, honestly, compared to a lot of the English sang by Japanese pop stars today-- Japanese just doesn't have the same inventory of sounds or diversity of syllable structures as English.
