You are exactly correct about the poor instructions on putting up a tent, and the fact that the guy lines are not even mentioned. I was very glad to come across your video simply to verify I was not going insane. Your comments helped and I was able to use the plastic clips.
I would also recommend to new campers to learn a 'taut line hitch' or 'clothesline hitch' knot - they give the same result as the the three hole plastic item.
@ronenfe Voice is fine -- he's just dumb cause he doesnt like accents. VIdeo quality is mediocre/too close/unfocused, but the explanation is clear and if you watch you can tell exactly what you were doing. Thanks for the video -- very helpful. Keep it up!
@vision2sound that's why i'm also trying to explain clearly what i'm doing, it seems quite clear when i watch it. if you have a spceific question please ask.
Your video along with the comments disappear54 worked for me! Thank you both!

Have a peg/stake ready. Holding runner with one hand, with other hand pull out the cord from between the middle and lower holes, making a long loop with the runner pushed up towards the tent.
Thread through all 3 holes in S shape. Knot at bottom as in video. Tie unkotted end to the tent (permanently attached).

In this loop, place the peg and insert in ground. Move runner closer to tent to tighten.
thanks for the tip, i will try it some day, that explains the middle hole purpose, so you put the rope insidethe outer hole , you tie it to itself and then you put it through the middle hole and then to the tent loop and back to the remaining hole?
Not exactly, if you tie it to itself, then through the tent loop, then through middle hole then outer hole on plastic runner then u tie the end to the tent post/peg that goes in the ground, make sense?
can the plastic move freely this way? it seems to me that by that way you have to release the rope by hand when you want to tighten it, instead of just pulling the plastic.
yes your right, its rather tougher to move the plastic part but it does move and it means its also harder for the rope to slacken off under pressure. I tried without it in the middle hole but although tense if it was pulled the plastic bit slackened off and didnt give as much structure in windy conditions.
i don't think it meant to be this way, the purpose of the plastic is to let you tighten the rope easily by just pulling the plastic, maybe the middle hole is an alternative to the far hole so you can choose either of them. and there is a different in the tension between the two.
Maybe it is to give different tension, i find the plastic pulls just as easily through one hole as the two but when through two it doesnt seemt to risk it being accidentally slackened off. Both ways work so now i have two ways to do it when before i had none :o)
Instead of putting the rope through the loop on the tent then through the one hole on the runner, i decided to try it in the middle hole then back out the end hole (the reason i think theres 3 holes) which makes it a much tighter fit...give it a try and let me know what you think ;o)
Hey there, thanks so much for this, like you i searched the internet and found nothing, this video has helped me be able to do the ropes properly for the first time ever. Thank you, i'm one pleased tent onwer :o)
Hi,finally, it's great to hear I'm not the only one who had this on his mind, i thought i'm alone...
I'm glad i could help, it's a little tricky, but once you get it , it's easy. in the army tents they use similar methods to tighten the ropes, so it gave me a little clue.
Thanks!

Hi, thanks, but it's not so easy to understand that without seeing pictures or a video.

Throw the little plastic thing away and tie a taut line hitch.

this is not the right way to attach the guy line on a tent

Hi, you are welcome to post another video and show the right way, maybe my way isn't the perfect one, because i figured it out myself.
