  • Phil Keaggy is one of the best guitarists ever imho. I first heard this composition back in 1988 when I purchased his "Wind and the Wheat" album. I have never heard a better guitar composition, not even from Phil Keaggy. It's flawless!

  • dude is awesome

  • Just listen to the music and not look at the video its not that impressive. This style of tapped harmonics is kind of limited honestly since they are limited by the 4 or 5 harmonic notes. It honestly gets a little old

  • @iownallnoobs

Dude, you're kidding right? Your comment makes no sence!

If his 'limited' technique works to get the sound that he likes to achieve, why would he need to make it himself more complicated by using a more 'advanced' style of tapped harmonics? If Phil only wants those 4 or 5 harmonics then that's he's choice!

    Impressive or not, who cares?

You also said it gets a little old, but I'm pretty sure this vid was recorded way before you were even born..

    Phil is the best!

  • I listen to this song when I need daily inspiration.

  • can't you lunatics just enjoy the song? get over yourselves.

  • can't you lunatics just enjoy the song? get over yourselves

  • God listens to Phil Keaggy music....

  • Sigh..................

  • I'll try not to "sound" like a jerk. I completely understand. When talking about Phil Keaggy, such religious "talk" should be expected, ... he is, after all, a christian.

  • To me this song speaks of the journey of a a life is it struggles and learns from god and begins to understand, leading to its end and its unification with him.

  • He has the RCA Victor dog in his house, ... come on!

  • Honestly, in terms of originality and influence, Phil Keaggy is like Rory Gallagher, a complete innovater in his own right, I hear so many guitarist's styles that are obviously inspired by his music, Jeff Martin, Andy Mckee, Jimmy Walhsteen, and Antoine Dufour to name a few. I think Phil Keaggy BLOWS MY MIND!

  • he makes that kitty Purrr doesnt he

  • What is that guitar tuned to?

  • @TheMarsht C#AbC#F#BbC#

  • Could people just leave their religious/cult beliefs at the door? Some of us have free minds...

  • @ZOMBIELANDakaUSA

Yes you you do have a free mind and a free will to accept or deny Jesus Christ. We also live in a free country to speak our minds. You should thank God for that! Peace!

  • @jonani3

why do you cultists always insist that your god is everybody's god? Obviously i don't believe in superstitions or absurdities(your bible), so why would you say i should thank god?(rhetorical)

  • @ZOMBIELANDakaUSA

Like I said, peace. I hope you find it one day.

  • @jonani3

i have more peace than you'll ever realize,my mind is not enslaved,as yours obviously is.And second to natural death, religion is responsible for the most deaths in human history(peace, lol)

It's easier to join the crowd than to stand alone,it's a hard choice, free mind,or faux friends. Most of you are automatically inducted into these cults as a child(baptized),so the stress must be great for you if you break free...you will be cast out...fact

  • @jonani3

Like i said: "i have more peace than you'll ever realize,my mind is not enslaved,as yours obviously is.And second to natural death, religion is responsible for the most deaths in human history(peace, lol)

It's easier to join the crowd than to stand alone,it's a hard choice, free mind,or faux friends. Most of you are automatically inducted into these cults as a child(baptized),so the stress must be great for you if you break free...you will be cast out...fact"

    Hope you find sanity

  • @ZOMBIELANDakaUSA "And second to natural death, religion is responsible for the most deaths in human history(peace, lol)"

Historically atheistic beliefs have caused more deaths than religious. (see scottfromsc.blogspot.com/2009/10/christianity-and-religion-have-caused.html)

But as the saying goes "guns don't kill people, people do". It's the self seeking corruption in all of our hearts atheist/ christian that causes the most destruction. Only God provides a solution. Religion doesn't

  • @ben777neb

i hope you aren't limiting yourself when i say "religion",maybe i should've stated those who believe in a higher being, source, etc, etc.

i don't believe any religion, and i'm not atheist, odd? if theres a "god", whomever/whatever is doing this experiment called human,i would love to see the proof pre-death.

As far as the most popular cults(christianity, etc),the bible is the most absurd piece of crap humanity has ever seen, those with a free mind understand.

    i pity the weak minds

  • @ZOMBIELANDakaUSA We all do, moron. What are you afraid of? Your own conviction?

  • @viewitmytube

are you really as obtuse as your statement would suggest? I guess you didn't notice(at the least) the post with the most 'thumbs up', what does it say?(rhetorical), and you called me a moron?(i pity you)

  • @ZOMBIELANDakaUSA You are the one who is pitied, where do you get your beliefs, another zombie?

  • @viewitmytube

lol, where do i get my beliefs? How can one explain to one who asks such a question...essentially you do not have the capacity for the answer...because if you could comprehend why you asked the question in the first place, you would realize you are incapable of even rational thought, and wouldn't have asked

god to me? trying to play the likes of Keaggy, Hedges, Paco De Lucia, Al Di Meola, Les Claypool, etc. i have a new god frequently...

  • My god, That guitar is like a friggin extention of his body!!!

  • God Bless this man, he is the deal. :)

  • The one thing I've loved about Phil's music is that it's been with me through the good, the bad and the ugly. When I would not listen to any Christian music, 'Wind and the Wheat' found it's way into my collection and has stayed there ever since. I can't wait to for the next surprise. Thanks to all the musicians, producers and friends who've contributed towards making Phil's music one of life's pure delights. Play on. :)

  • seeing is beleaving

  • The beautiful music you can make with just one acoustic guitar. All guitarists, including myself can learn from this amazing musician.

  • gatopfuelsaver

  • 10 people were expecting the reunion of Bad Meets Evil

  • Is he like playing in his great grandmother's old study from like the 1880's or something?

  • Wonderful music!

  • @mj121287 what do you mean? There are far more religious people than atheist on this planet. unless 80% of all humans are wank-o-maniacs maybe?

  • who would click the dislike button on this? I mean, there is nothing offensive or convicting to anyone it's just a tasty piece of beautiful music by one of the greatest guitarists alive... whats to dislike??? I'm just sayin'.....

  • @MrsClippit They must of hit it by accident :)

  • @gratefulgracy LOL, I know huh!! :)

  • @MrsClippit There's always some asshole. It is the story of the human race, don't worry too much.

  • No one plays like Phil Keaggy...

  • huh..Thank You for the GOOD MUSIC.

  • This song from the "The Wind and the Wheat" which is my favorite instrumental CD. I always enjoy Phil's talent but more than that I enjoy his humble spirit and joyful guitar work. His ability to combine technical playing with a melody that speak to the soul is truly a gift from God.

  • Just saw phil live. the guy is awesome.

  • I'd like to say that anyone playing an Olson guitar would sound as good. . . but it'd be a lie. Remarkable, and SO much more musical than many other tapping players.

  • Phil himself said Hendrix never said that and since Phil first recorded at Jimis studio 2 weeks after his death its unlikely he ever heard him play

  • One of the most incredible, heartfelt songs ever composed in my opinion. It has such a positive atmosphere to it.

  • Woah. Greasedlightningfingers

  • the press asked Hendrix "who is the greatest guitar player alive?" Hendrix responded with-"go ask Phill Keaggy." wow

  • @godfather301a it was actually "go ask Rory Gallagher"

  • Not only is he a gifted guitarist but he is a terrific singer/composer. His vocals are a carbon copy of Paul McCartney for sure !!!!

  • Was he one of Andy McKee's acoustic influences?

  • I'm pretty sure that he's recorded a version of "Farewell to Tarwathie". I have not heard it in years. I can't seem to find it anywhere on Youtube, either. :-(

  • Phil plays well as usual. However lifting tracks from a copyrighted video isn't very "Christian" renig! lol

  • I Love Phil Keaggy's Music.

But, when people talk about God's properties through abstract terms, and how "he moves" it rubs me the wrong way. Everyones idea of God differs because that idea is based off of their imagination infused with the imaginations of others. Therefore, no one on this planet has an idea of what is really going on. Believe what you may, but believe in what you do for you, no one else. Finally, consider accepting the fact that there are many things that we simply do not know.

  • @becks0620 I said that this is the music that "I" feel God in. Me. Myself. I wasn't speaking for you. Also, I apologize that I said it is what God deserves, as we can never give God what he deserves. He already has it.

  • This reminds me of how my father used to play guitar, using harmonics and a hammer style. I was always mesmerized watching him.

  • Thanks for this post. Trully Keaggy is one of the best guitarist. Back then, I didnt know Phil until I first saw him played a Christian tune at 700 Club back in the mid 80's. Hope that clip of him be posted here.

  • Some people who call themselves Christian tried to get him out of their bookstores because he did a cover of the Beatles... Sad to miss out on so much. Is it that satisfying to be right....

  • An interviewer once asked Eric Clapton what it felt like to be the best guitarist in the world & Eric said, "I dunno....ask Phil Keaggy". Thanks for posting. There isn't enough Keaggy on youtube!

  • @susancvh

actually the real story is somebody asked me who the best guitar player was, and I answered Phil Keaggy.

  • 10 people don't get any cake tonight.

  • @berserker213 Damn right... they get a dog shit sandwich.

  • wow!!! I went to Phil's concert in Auckland, New Zealand back in 1989, what an honour to see and listen to him worship the Lord with his amazing gift of music!!! God bless you Phil Keaggy. Wow, wow, wow!!!

  • @ckelly1447 wow bro....I don't get the hate. lol, I mean, sure, there are definitely some looney christians out there, (and even some who commented on this vid), but that doesn't mean God didn't give him talent. plus, it's pretty offensive to cuss on a video of a christian guitarist. think about what you're saying before you say it....even if you think its true. I wouldn't just go comment super offensive stuff on someone elses vid cause I didn't like their worldview.

  • Amazing how you make the guitar sing. God has really given you a talent and you've not let him down.

  • A true musician. This is near perfect...More people my age need to appreciate good music.

  • Music is religious, or more appropriately, spiritual, because it comes from and speaks to the heart and soul and not the mind. You can't really know God through your mind, only through the heart and soul because that is the language He speaks. God is love.

  • when I first Phil live in 1982, I wanted to quit playing guitar... but later learned how to be inspired by this music, even though I would never be as good.

  • Does anyone here knows how to tune the guitar to play this sing? i'm want to learn it, but seems that the tuning is not the standard. anyone?

  • @lcvolt

    DADGBD

  • I wouldn't be surprised if we got to heaven one day and found out that this is the language that we all speak. if i could make sounds like this with my mouth i'd never shut up.

  • This man is blessed by God with an amazing talent!!!

  • The slow hand marks the spot. The fast hand is only a thought.

  • Must people make music something religious? :( Religion has caused the world enough pain as it is. Leave beatiful music be!

  • @Chefen92

    Religion and men, not God

  • I got saved 25 years ago while listening to his music. God's presence is woven like a thread surrounding every note he plays, connecting the Father's heart to his hands.

  • This is one of my all time favorite songs. Any one here knows what tuning it's in?

I think it's in DADGAD but I'm not sure.

  • @KyleBlatz. IT is BADGBD. well, it says that in the Phill Keaggy Solos book that I am learning from. I love this song :)

  • @njwfunmaster That's really cool. I guess I was kinda close haha. I really wanna learn this song. It's in the solo book you have? What's it called?

  • @KyleBlatz well, it's called "Phil Keaggy - Acoustic Solos" it was like 19 bucks, but its quite old. from Mel Bay? idk if that helps!

  • "Well I heard there was a secret chord that Keaggy played and it please the Lord." Man, his various techniques employed in other music has made his own sound pure and versatile. Blows my mind plugged in and unplugged! XD

  • msuic is emotion not some religious tool, whether or not he wrote it as praise to god or whatever, it doesnt matter, why not just appreciate the music for the skill it takes to play and the time he put into it, dont turn it into some religious debate to mend your own insecurities

  • Great music by a great player. I've followed Phil through the years, know a lot of his songs and techniques. This piece is still one of the finest. It expesses so much joy of a wonderful Reunion!!

    Praise God

  • the thing that so incredible about phil is that I'm convinced he just improvises and comes up with a "one off" perfect sounding composed work, when in reality he's just so talented he can feel his way through and it sounds perfect instead of starting with a concept and perfecting it more and more over a period of time. you can tell in alot of guys playing that it's that way.

  • Sure is a beautiful melody.

  • As a lover of music, and a believer in God, it saddens me that even in the presence of such beauty we reduce ourselves to rhetoric. Why not just listen to the music and allow its source speak to our heart?

  • @ssmaxwell220

right on, this is beauty. It's my own fault that i read the idiotic, mindless god zombie banter, and respond...aargh

i really could care less how humans are enslaved

  • @LuthAMF: The existence of a god would easily explain the universe, but does nothing to explain the existence of god. If your god gets a pass on explanations, why not just pass on explaining the universe? If god has just 'always existed,' why not cut out the middleman and say the universe has always existed? Regardless, Phil Keaggy is one of the finest products evolution has to offer so far. :)

  • Regardless, do you know what will not always exist? Yep you and me and every living breathing thing on this Earth, We have a 100% Death rate, So the question is then, What is the meaning of Life, and Where did we come from.. they are Fundamental Questions that we base our life's discussions and experiences on, Ignorance is not acceptable, Whatever you believe, Believe it with all the faith and knowledge you have

  • I saw him do this in Atlanta before the CD came out!Breathtaking performance!

  • It amazes me that there are so many strongly gifted musicians out there. Although, there are times when simple is better. Canon in D has the easiest harmony to it, but what makes it so great is that Pachelbel took that simplicity and made it into something great by adding layers of stringed and other instruments to it to create a lasting piece of music. There will always be someone out there who can write something great and Keaggy does just that!

  • Fantastic Guitarist!

  • Artists like Phil Keaggy never did and never would become mainstream (unfortunately), two reasons being is that he has amazing talent and number two being that he is a strong Christian. Those looking for real music often have to look outside of the mainstream.. and that's a good thing, leaves all the real music to people that have good ears and can appreciate it.

  • Slap harmonics!!!

  • I MUST LEARN THIS SONG!!

  • I've always thought Phil Keaggy was one of the greatest guitar players of all time, hands down.

  • For the longest time, I was thinking Tim Reynolds was the best, but then I listened to Phil Keaggy and now when I listen to Reynolds he sounds like an amateur... haha ... Reynolds is still good but Keaggy is incredible...

  • @ValenxAnti Amen.

  • @ValenxAnti Absolutely. He is in a world of his own. I've been playing for awhile and I don't even know where to start with his creations, lol! Beautiful music!

  • @ValenxAnti hands down and a big "thumbs up"!!

  • Every time I listen to this I have to give it 5 stars again. Amzing! I love the finish.

  • It amazes me that there is so many good musicians out there and it seems like a good majority of them do not get noticed. One thing I love about Keaggy is that he inspires you.

  • maybe he doesn't get noticed my mainstream, but he sells out his shows

  • Oh he does. He gets regular mentions (or has done) in the Guitar Player awards.

  • Just One!!........WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is this in an open d tuning?

  • yes, phil play's in a variety of open tunings.

  • actually, after listening and watching several times, i believe it is in

    D A D G B D

    :D

  • If a man hits just one chord that pleases the most high Lord God, a whole lot, that man did not waste a moments time. Phil Keaggy has great recognition among us guitar players, and producers, all the way up to the very top of the ladder.

  • Rapturious!

  • Not a word!

  • that was really beuitful

  • What is even better, is he is going to come to my town (OMAHA NE) and put on a guitar workshop, a sermon, and a concert at a large local church. I am SO excited.

  • So Phil Keaggy is only playing in small venues these days,he is wasting his talents he needs more recognition

  • no recognition is just another word for sell out,and sell outs are lame

  • If you get recognition you're a sell out? A slight exaggeration, I feel.

  • I've seen Mr Keaggy perform this a number of times and seeing/hearing it performed live is a very different experience. It's jaw dropping. I just shake my head and say to myself "How does he DO that?" It's like there are 3 people playing!

  • I remember going to see Glass Harp in the 70"s playing around the Kent Ohio area. Keaggy was mesmerizing. I would lay back close my eyes when he would solo and be transported to guitar heaven...Wow amazing.

  • what did graceveal say

  • Comment removed

  • Its hard to believe a guy this talented would reject fame,i mean the jonas brothers are christians and thier famous, but of course Phil is much more talented than the Jonas Brothers

  • music is not a talent, and the Jonas Brothers only say they are Christian, but none of there songs give praise to God

  • You don't have to write preachy songs to give praise to God.

God made humans to love each other, it's part of his pourpose for us. Therefore, wouldn't it be pleasing to God for us to write love songs to one another?

Read the Song of Solomon in the old testament, it's a love poem. Is that not praising God?

That's just one example of how not only praise and worship music can be used to glorify God.

  • Yea, except God's not real, so uh...bummer for you brah.

  • I Say God Is Real Brah! And I'm A pretty Smart Guy :)

  • i think jared is a pretty smart guy o: eh says god is real and doesnt afraid of anything! =P

  • AaronWallace, you people can't even listen to music without unloading your atheistic BS. Go listen to Gwar or something, you freakin' Neanderthal.

  • are you suggesting that only atheists listen to Gwar?

  • Atheists listen to a broad range of music, I'm sure. Aaron's comment was only as useful as I happen to view Gwar material. My opinion counting for little to nothing, I find Gwar to be ridiculous. Certainly they do not intend beauty in their music. They thrive on shock and raunch. So...

  • so atheists thrive on shock and raunch?

    biased much? =P

i remember a quote, i heard, somewhere. something about judgment... you wouldn't happen to know it, would you?

  • @XcaptainXobliviousX

Oh, no, Xcaptain. You thought I meant that atheists thrive on shock and raunch. I said Gwar as a band thrive on shock and raunch. It would be a totally unfair and biased opinion to hold if I intended that statement toward atheists specifically. Now, if Gwar happens to be comprised of atheists, my opinion of them is not lessened. Remember Stryper, the "Christian" band? Hated them. Sorry I wasn't clear enough. Go ye, therefore, Xcaptain, and make beautiful music!

  • A taste of Heaven.

  • Pure Beauty...This has not aged to me...Still refreshes somehow when i hear this..

  • This is music that I really feel God in. Not in mainstream, Christian Pop-Rock. This is what i feel God deserves.

  • yeah i know what you mean, its like some sort of god or ghost has haunte dhis body and given him the power of ''guitar hero'',htis music really makes you spiritual

  • Been thinking for darn near 10 years how to best put this to someone who doesn't quite get it - thanks, and yeah, you're right. Other than maybe some old Petra...just for kicks...my guess is God doesn't listen to much that's found in a "Christian" bookstore.

  • @rushfloydzeppelin THANK YOU! Yeah, I feel the same way. I listen to a lot of bands like the Beatles, the Band, the Kinks, and artists like Bob Dylan and Stevie Wonder most of the time (some of them have Christian overtones to their music, mostly Stevie Wonder and especially Bob Dylans late 70's music). I used to listen to Michael W. Smith a lot, not ass much anymore though. This is what I imagine Christian music SHOULD sound like, though. It's more...human, and not overproduced.

  • @rushfloydzeppelin Indeed, he goes up and beyound.

  • @rushfloydzeppelin nah not what god deserves. we cant give him that... he deserves way more than anything we can give him. but this is about the closest i've seen/heard =)

  • @w00kieb0i

Very True. We can give him nothing near what he deserves. I'm glad you said that, I need to watch so my language represents that.

  • @rushfloydzeppelin

This is what God has brought you, what God deserves is your faith and praise.

  • @rushfloydzeppelin Amen brother I agree.

  • this is one of my favortie song he does

  • Beautiful...

  • As a music appreciator, I must confess I never heard anyone use Keaggy's music that way, but enjoy!

  • I am actually thinking about making this my floor routine music

  • this guy is my inspiration at playing the guitar =)

  • i first saw glass harp when i was 14 yrs. old. since than i've seen them maybe 50 times. i've had a few deep conversations with phil keaggy and he is a really sweet and gentle man. i still love that band-phil is as good as jimi, eric, carlos etc. he just chose a different path.

  • First off, blurg thats one of the funniest comments I've seen on you-tube...

Secondly, before 2:04 i understand how he's doing what hes doing... but after I didn't know that that was possible...

  • Phil keaggy actually taught god how to play guitar

  • Neither Phil Keaggy nor good would like that you said that so don't

  • so your god has no sense of humour?

i could have sworn we were supposedly made in his image.

  • my face has melted

  • This one of the best guitar works period.. If there's anything close, it's probably Phil's too..

  • Smooth and cool, amazing player.

  • awesome phil well done

  • the birth place of arial boundaries

  • Phil Keaggy is just one of the greatest guitarists ever . . . I never tire of his music!

  • He's unbelievably good.

  • i miss mr. healey. i met him at a radio station i worked at. jeff was one nice and cool guy. really funny too. this is my fav. keaggy song. hes an amazing player.

  • to bozaki87..

yes, Jeff was 92' in Hamburg and we had a letter friendship some years...Charlie

  • ES UN MAESTRO!!!

  • I love Phil Keaggy. When my husband and I were dating we listened to Phil's music. That was in 1973 and we were Jesus Freaks in California.

  • Go Brother Go!!

Shine bright for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Maybe on the other side of Glory we can jam for Him who saved us.

  • I'm speechless, impressed, inspired and maybe already dissapointed I'll never reach such level. Beautiful with a lot of technique but grace as well 5*

  • WOW! He IS Incredible!!

  • its breathtaking
